Many have stated that if your reports are frozen you will not get any pre-qual offers. I used to believe that, but no longer.

I religiously keep my reports frozen and have gotten pre-qual offers in the mail from PenFed, USAA and Nevada State Bank and several others. I have received pre-qual e-mails from WebBank and also Disco.

And I am sure they were legitimate pre-quals as each contained the "Opt-Out Pre-Screen" notices.

interesting. Did you ever opt in on the optoutprescreen site? Also, are these current creditors?

USAA was, at the time, a current credit. PenFed and Nevada State Skank were not.

WebBank was a current creditor only in that I have another card that they underwrite.

I never opted in, and never opted out.

FNBO pre-selector site sucks. I had always thought it was a sure thing, but wife and son tried it and even though it said pre-approved, they were declined. Waiting on letter to see why.

Daughter tried it though and was actually approved.

is Dover good?

Apparently not. I pulled the trigger after being pre-approved for 20k, just to be told an employee will reach out to me. FO...

Check your junk mail.  I got a follow-up email to from Dover them saying Congratulations! I filled out the info and it said someone would call me 🤣.  Not sure what is going on and what the $68 means.  Under I hope it’s not my limit. Under the $68 was a button/banner that takes you to a page to submit identity info (name, dob, ssn).

You are pre-qualified for a Dover Federal Credit Union . In just a few simple steps, your new card will be on the way. Click “Get Your Card” below to get started.

Did you follow through with their application? Do you have an update from them?

I just did a prequal with them and said I was approved for 10K. Finished the app and then received a message saying "Oops, something unexpected happened!" and to call their expert member service reps. I did and their closed. (Its Saturday). I will call during the week and see what they have to say.

Please let us know how it goes.

Just how solid are NASA, Patelco, US Alliance and Bank Mobile pre-approvals???

I was pre-approved at all of them, but will get really pissed if ultimately shot down.

NASA and Patelco will probably want some docs for income proof. I'm not sure about the other two. The Patelco travel card isn't terrible.

I have docs, but it will be a cold day in hell when they get tax returns.

update with my prequal with Dover. It was a chore getting to the correct department. Was promised call back Monday and Tuesday. (didn't happen) So I called and finally was transferred to someone. One of the 1st questions/statements  she said was... I see your on the other side of the country, why did you apply with us? Who told you about us? Why do you have so many new credit cards? (the newest one is 10 months old, next is 16 and the other 2 are over 4 years. there is about 5 to 10% utilization on each card)

I said what about the preapproval? she seemed pretty snotty this whole conversation. She sent me an email requesting'

The following is required to continue the process:

Two months of paystubs or if you are self-employed 2020 and 2021 tax returns.
Driver’s License or state issued picture ID (address on ID must match application address
Copy of social security card

After you provide your proof of income and identification,

we will schedule a video conference to complete the identity verification.

We will then forward your application to Lending for further review.

If it’s approved, a membership is required to finalize your application.

Doesn't seem much like a preapproval the website said I had.   For the record I have 2 inquiries on trans and 1 on Equifax and Experian.

NASA was pretty much sure thing, although I think I had to send them something to prove residence since it isn't on my reports or my license.  Maybe it was income.  Either way, it was a decent starting line even though rewards are very MEH.  They did recently do a spend a grand and get $100 back promo...so I put something like $1003 on the card LOL!

US Alliance was a crock of warmed-over crap for me...they claimed I was approved and then pulled another hard and THEN claimed I didn't meet eligibility criteria despite my having been on the phone with them for about 20 minutes that day.  I may have detailed my experiences in a thread about them that someone else started.

Never heard of Bank Mobile and never tried with Patelco.

Well, I did some research ...

NASA FCU

US Alliance FCU

Patelco

Dover FCU

All pure 💩.

I already have enough credit to choke a horse -- no, in fact, EVERY fooking horse on the Great American Plains -- and the largest, third largest and eighth largest CUs in the US welcomed me in with open arms and I am now at maximum exposure with each with nothing more than four simple INQs.

On the other hand, there is abundant proof that the above mentioned four pieces of 💩 routinely give so-called pre-approvals and then promptly ask for an absurd paper trail and even then shoot people down for having what they believe too much available credit.  No wonder those losers can't even make the top 20.

I woke up this morning to 7 -- yes, seven -- e-mails from NASA begging me to apply and all of them were sent within 1/2 hour of each other.  US Alliance only sent me 2.  NFW will I apply.

When they place a soft INQ on your credit reports to see if you are "pre-qualified", they see the same data that they'd get from a hard.  I now firmly believe that for NASA, Patelco, Dover and US Alliance that FCU stands for Fooking Cooont Underwriters.
