11:34 PM ET February 17 2008... all is well. Put nearly $200 on my platinum for supper out... that should keep me safe for a bit longer.

(I think travel and food... any type of discretionary spending... is what they like to see.)

What is so great about AMEX that you have to worry about what you spend what on? Does AMEX seriously look over your purchases and judge you based on that?

I thought that charging and paying in full is what a creditor would like...

You don't really... but amex started as a travel and entertainment card and travel and entertainment generally means you have money to spend, so it should look better to creditors than just all routine bills. We know Amex CLD someone who charged medical bills... we also know that someone who has a tight budget doesn't eat out as much or travel as often (unless someone else is paying the bill)... so it makes sense that they might track they types of places you use it. It's not that hard either - everything is coded for the type of business.

Amex breaks charges down two food and tips - but i don't know if good tippers are at less of a risk of CLD. :dntknw:

Some issuers don't like cash advances, some don't like BTs, BOA doesn't seem to care either way, so its my 'go to' card.

No, no - it's starbucks they like to see (I hear all cc's like it). It's wallyworld you're supposed to worry about (but I don't).

and only if its all wallyworld, all the time. :dntknw: If wallyworld is part of a mix of stores or usage, its fine.

I sincerely doubt that AMEX has a hierarchy about "worthy" retailers. My Blue Cash is MOST productive at gas stations, supermarkets, and drugstores..............hardly "high end" purchases......and AMEX is just fine such charges.

Some of their products are for everyday use - such as blue cash and simply cash (biz).

I'd say all of their products are for everyday use as well as high end purchases. At least that is how my cards have been utilized.

No AA here with either my cards or DH's card, though Amex has done THREE soft-pull ARs on me in the past month -- once when a balance went up on another card, once when my new auto loan (refi) started reporting, and once when my new Penfed CC started reporting. All those are apparently OK with Amex, though, because all's still clear.

DH had an old collection show up on his EX a few weeks ago, and I keep waiting for the axe to fall on him, though Amex has not done any softs on him since he got his card. I won't stop being nervous about it until they do an AR and his account remains intact afterward...

My account is still DOA after they cancelled it due to a bankruptcy they claim I filed. Problem is I never filed bankruptcy, I informed them yet they still managed to screw up my credit file with a reporting of "discharged in bankruptcy" I am still working on getting this corrected and so far they have been worthless in correcting their own mistake and have yet to reinstate my account. I have been PM'd by another member at Credit Boards with identical circumstances who had his account closed in the same manner. No apologies. Damaged credit. They simply don't care.

Have there been more financial reviews lately?? I know its always been an issue, but still ok here also!

I was sure it was coming when I called Amex and the lady exclaimed "wow you're 21 and have 3 cards with us, two of which have $25,000 limits?!" but she then went on to talk for 5 minutes about how impressive that was and how Amex was very glad to have me as a customer.

I've noticed that my Amex AR activity, if anything, has SLOWED down quite a bit, and, in fact, I had a PRM on EX from American Express Company and then received a pre-approval for a Blue for Business.

I already have about 100K in Amex lines so I don't need more.

While you may have created the thread tongue in cheek, I still think it's really more than useful. We all know that AMEX is an enigma and we have an idea of flag factors but we don't know all the things that may set them off. There is a plethora of AMEX F/R threads. So, those of us who haven't been F/R get lost in those. Although we want to know when/who gets a F/R, it's also important to track those not F/R'ed and perhaps learn info about the reasons and patterns. :)

I hope I'm not jinxing myself by saying so, but all is ok here too! Two softs since Wednesday but everything still looks fine.....

I haven't tracked my EX softs for a couple of years. So, I don't know if there is an increase in AR's for me or not. No loss, I guess...
