MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTARY: Hoping to refinance in 6 months or so once I get a few more things cleaned up on my CR, but I was in the position where I HAD to buy a car as my 3 small children didn't fit in my 2-door Mercedes. Went to another dealer with the Cap1 preapproval letter and deal they were trying to force me to agree to couldn't have been worse - 5k over book value; basically NOTHING for my trade since the pricing was so inflated. It was a power struggle just to get them to share the numbers. Dealers like this make the car buying experience very miserable. Went down the street and got $2500 towards the vehicle from my trade; just the poor interest rate jacked up the pmt, which I can live with since I realize that is the result of my poor credit. Best part, no pressure at all. Much better overall experience.

Ended up with a Suburban. Plenty of room for the family. Thankfully, we have another car that will be used for everyday commuting & this one will be reserved for family outings.

The dealer had never seen a check or offer just show up in the mail like that so it look a little longer to get everything squared away. Once we did though it was all smooth sailing.

MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTARY: Was originally financed with Wells Fargo Dealer Services for extremely high interest rate (17%). I paid on time for a year and few months. Then, I worked with another loan company that helped me get refinanced with my own bank--they went to bat for me. I could not be happier with the rate and the payment! I will still make the same payment I made before but now more of my money will go towards the principle on my car loan! :yahoo:

AMOUNT OF LOAN: 16,500 (about)

TERM CONTRACTED: 72

MONTHLY PAYMENT: 311

MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTARY: Zero down on 2012 Honda Civic LX, did buy the wrap to get 7 years/100k warranty for a little less than $1500. Dealer paid half of the sales tax and gave me $5k on my trade (a 2004 Honda Accord EX-L with 90k miles, but with some significant body damage and repairs needed to the interior, well over the $2750 that Autotrader appraised it at, and the online Black Book calculators wouldn't even try.) So while not much came off of sticker price, in the end I don't think I was ripped off at all. No GAP needed since at no point during the loan will I be upside-down. Cap1 wanted to take it at a higher interest rate with $500 cash down. Payment is now $30 more than my old payment was, and even with Americredit being a subprime lender (which may look bad later on my credit reports) I'll take the lower interest, thank you very much ;) Would have tried to do a 60-month but I'll just try to pay extra as I can.

Also of interest: My credit reports were still showing I had an open car loan on my trade -- I'd just paid it off and had letters from the bank saying so. Scores may change significantly after car loan shows paid off and new loan shows up. Revolving accounts almost all chargeoffs, but perfect installment history, perfect payment history on my previous car note per the bank letter, and six years at the same job.

MISCELLANEOUS COMMENTARY: I've had horrendous credit since college. I slowly built it up using the advice on these boards to buy a house two years ago. I then focused on getting my credit as high as possible. I traded in two cars (for me and my wife) that had interest rates above 10% and a huge payment. Decided to take advantage for the first time in my life of a great deal while having good credit and got two amazing deals on cars. The deal was so nice I bought two with similar payments!
