Guys I have started looking into cleaning up my credit. I had a car repo back in 1996. The car loan is still showing up as a open account on my report I thought after 7 to 10 years this would fall off of my report. Its been 11 years and its still showing up so I would like to know can you guys tell me how to get this off of my credit report?

Welcome to CreditBoards! We hope that you find what you're looking for here. Some helpful tips:

  • Your post may not get a reply right away. Don't be discouraged, this is a very busy board. If it falls off of the first page, feel free to reply to your post yourself, with the word *bump* in the text. This will *bump* your post back up to the top of the board.
  • If you haven't yet, take a peek at out Newbies Section. Everything that you need to know is in that forum, for the most part! It's a lot of reading, we know, but this credit stuff can have a steep learning curve. In no time, you'll be posting like the pros!
  • If you find that someone is discourteous to you, use the REPORT button at the bottom of every post - that will ensure that a moderator or admin looks at the post and decides if it is against the TOS.
  • Off -topic posts should go in the General Forum.

Welcome to CB :D

Repo'ed in 1996 and still reporting and as an open account? :dntknw:

You might look over the last CRA letter on the following page from Why Chat's site

http://whychat.5u.com/nottoca.html

You might also read over his repo letters

http://whychat.5u.com/repoltr.html

Before sending any letters, you should do some reading in the Newbie Forum and the Sample Letter Forum.

Also read through FAQ section (at the top of the page in the red bar) where it talks about the reaging of accounts.

You might also do a search on reaging in the Credit Forum and do some reading.
