MissAllie Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 I am attending a timeshare presentation on Friday to get a free trip to Vegas and some other little goodies. The instuctions say to bring a major credit card and debit cards are NOT accepted. I am wondering what they will do with the credit card?? Can they pull a soft by using your credit card? I am very curious as to why they would need one if you are not planing on purchasing the timeshare. Any ideas?? Quote

Fill up your car with gas before going to the presentation (using the HSBC "Platinum") - might as well buy a few things too that you need. Just to make sure they can't get the full $300 from it... They want you to bring a major CC so they can get a "deposit" from you for a timeshare. Quote

Remember, the WHOLE point of them having this presentation is that they WANT you to buy... therefore they ASSUME NO ONE is "STUPID" enough to pass up on the FABULOUS opportunity they are presenting... If you said before you went that you aren't going to buy, they willl either 1) try hard to convince you or 2) figure out a way to keep you from coming. Remember WHY they are in business... to seperate you form yourmoney... Now beyond that most time share presentations pre qualify you... they want to make sure you are at least some what credit worthy (and if you buy can make a down payment) which is why they ask you to bring a card and they usually ask yearly income as well. jdb0822 Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 also be aware that since you are staying there, they will want something "to secure the room" etc, for damages, etc. My sister fell for this in Orlando with Westgate Timeshares. They charged stuff to her card after she left, she called, they reversed it, and a month later, charged again. Be very cautious with these people, especially in Vegas where the rules are relaxed to begin with. Quote

Flyingifr Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 (edited) Leave your CC home and stay home with it. They don't make any money giving away free trips, there is always a back end problem. Expect your "free" trip to be totally un-usable as whenever you choose to go, your travel plans will not be available on that day (or any other). Been there, done that and I have the t-shirt. With that said, I have sat through many presentations just for free nights. The key is having the backbone to repeatedly say NO. Timeshare sales weasels are masters at screwing people through emotion. If you are soft or prone to being guilt tripped, then stay away.
