Got Finacially Reviewd by amex today, 3 accounts opened in 2 months total credit line 6k...I declined the review...I purchase business and owners are reluctant to release taxes for 300k, why would I release it for 6k....dont know if it was the new accounts that triggered it or the fact my Exp was frozen, it would seem that it was the new accounts alone, but I have been told that Amex soft pulls several times after new account opening. With the Exp credit freeze I couldn't even pull my own credit report...oh well...

Here are some other things I did that may or may not have triggered FR, I paid my balance every time a charge posted. I connectd 2 cards to my account before I recieved them. I established auto pay on each account even the ones I hadn't received. The last actions I made before FR...made $4 balance payment at 3am, 4am attempted to use card received earlier in the day. Payment didn't go through, thats when I found out account was locked.

I have an AMEX BLUE and a GOLD card since 2001.

Never knew about churning, etc until 6 months ago. So regular spending for over a decade.

And I still haven't done anything but regular purchases on them. (Much less now.)

Just backdated both successfully to 1992 in early August.

Have a $12,900 limit on BLUE and hit the CLI button in September. Have read that up to 3x is possible and recommended so asked for $36,000.

I believe original credit limit was $6,000 - $7,000 and automatic CLI over the years brought it up.

No instant approval.

Received letter requesting past 2 years tax return. (Needed to fill in 4506-T and fax. Which I did.) 2 weeks later approved for $35,000.

Our of curiosity, is an "optional" request by Amex for 4506-T in response to a CLI request still considered a F/R? Letter says if I don't respond, CLI request will simply be closed out without further action. (No real issue in responding with requested form, but don't intend to follow through ... simply prefer that Amex not get that "personal" at this time.)

As a reference point, have 2 cards currently at $13K and $19K.

American Express is risk averse. If you buy gift cards, request CLI's a lot, purchase unusual amounts of jewelery, change your payment habits, or otherwise run afoul of their metrics they will fr you. They aren't in business to run off good customers. They want to catch you before you become a bad one.

I'm going to ask for a 3x increase if it's still a soft pull, (been gone a while, not sure how it works anymore) I'll update here if I get FR'd again

did you really get FR'd after a CLI request or was it just a 4506T request?

I've had both. very different.

You only get a 4506T if it's 25K or higher, right?
