they want my ss# and full account number?

Recommended Posts

On all 3 of my credit reports it says I have a balance of $15k with Bank One, although they were included in my Chpt 7 bkty 08/04. I sent a 'not mine' letter, but two got back to me saying I needed to include my ss# and my full account number. On myfico.com's reports, they do not give full account numbers.

SHould I purchase each individual credit report from their websites? Will that give me my full account numbers?

Should I give them my ss#? I definately don't feel it's safe in a letter.

What should my 2nd letters state?

What do I do about the 3rd credit reporting agency that never got back to me (way after 30 days)? What should that letter state?

This is a very large balance & I cannot even get a credit card. I want to rebuild my credit, but I am desperately depressed about the lack of progress from them. What can I do? What should I state in these letters? Should I dispute online on their websites? Should I just send them copies of my bkpty paperwork proving it shouldn't have a balance??? HELP!!!!

You'll need to get your reports individually from the credit reporting agencies. They charge for them, but you'll get the report numbers you need for your disputes as well as the full account numbers. You may qualify for the free annual reports, but with the free reports the CRA's are entitled to an extra 15 days to investigate. You don't want to give them that extra time.

I always include photocopies of my DL and SS card with my dispute letters. That prevents them from sending my a letter telling me the need to verify my ID, and possibly giving them more time to investigate.

you should be disputing the not mine to the CRA's not the oc. buy your reports and dispute with the CRA's first i would suggest on something like this.

I never include the full account numbers when I dispute... If the report that I have says Chase xxx1234, then I make mention that there is a Chase account listed on my report with the partial account number of xxx1234.

IT IS NOT UNCOMMON FOR THEM TO ASK FOR YOUR SSN. ITS OK TO GO AHEAD AND GIVE IT TO THE CRA. DO NOT GIVE IT OT THE CA.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is "OC/CA" stand for? CRA is credit report agency = experian, trans union, equifax - right?

If that's the case, the CRA's are asking for my ss# and full account number. I can't remember which of the 3 asked, but I didn't know if it was safe to send that through the mail, and how many eyes it'd pass through till it go to the right person.

It's safe...but keep in mind that since the accounts are NOT yours, how would you know the full account number?

OC=Original Creditor

CA=Collection Agency

OC is original creditor, like Citicorp. CA is Collection Agency or JDB(Junk debt Buyer)

CA's validate, OC's verify

FDCPA applies to CA's and JDB's, NOT to OC's.
