I found this forum years ago (probably around 2006) when I was trying to learn how to build my credit. I bought my first car in 2006 with the help of my grandmother, but that was when I first learned what credit was and how it would be helpful to have it. I'm fairly certain I used Yahoo to search about credit and found this forum. It's funny that six years later I remembered the URL. This forum has been my main source of credit information, and I'm back six years later to clean up the mess a long gone bad relationship landed me in.

Wading through a sea of information on credit card debt I came across "Credit Card Survival Guide' which thankfully led me here. :D

Wow! We are really growing fast!! It's wonderful!

As I see the new "faces," I can't help but wonder how you found us. So, I thought maybe you would be willing to respond to a poll (one of our really nice features).

Kind of in a pickle. In my early 20s I used my credit unwisely, irresponsibly and now I'm looking to fix what I can, dispute some of the CA negativity which appears to be a revolving door of SOL retention. I feel like half the time it's just one CA passing off to another. I was told that there is a definite statute of limitiations and 'paying off' really doesn't improve one's score but I get conflicting stories. While although some of the debt is legit, I don't know exactly what to do, and this is why I'm here. For the last two years of done nothing but a lot of growing up. It sickens me that there are "businesses" that revolve around milking and crippling peoples credit scores and hijacking their abilities to borrow ever. I know that some may say, well you didn't pay your bills and there is no excuse, or time to face the music, "pay the piper" etc., but the fact that many of these accounts are well below any substancial amount and many are charged off by fortune 500 companies whom I still even do business with and it's basically collectors extorting money with threats to attack my score. Well any advice is greatly appreciated, I'm looking for solid steps not just a run around of paying various "free credit reports" with a capital * of fine print and monthly service fees. Also, from the looks of some of the other 'Credit Repair Companies' it appears to be stuff that I can likely do myself, in the mean time I'm going to continue to dig. "you are the master of your fate, the captain of your soul."

Welcome! Best to start a new thread of your own in the main credit forum. :)

I found creditboards in 2009 when attempting to fight, research, and delete my first collections, a Sprint bill, sent to collections and a remnant of my former life, that I was partially, but not fully, responsible for.

After much Googling about collections accounts, what to do, etc etc etc.. Creditboards.com kept coming up, and I joined the community.

I was young and foolish at first. I was 27, and had just moved from another State. I wasn't medicated nor educated, and picked fights with people, which was a source of much frustration/many frustrations. We even had other contributions to the dramatics. They are gone now, is my understanding. I messed up.

Presently, and approaching 4 years later, I endeavor to keep my credit in good standing.. and, at 30, I do hope my board standing will follow suit, in time.

Creditboards.com has made my credit improvement journey possible.

A friend of mine pointed me here as I am having a hard time with credit, even though all my bad stuff is from over 7 years ago. I need help in getting rid of the stuff that is well past SOL. I just got a collection notice today that was from a ~15 year old secured card that I just left. a $300 card that was never overcharged, secured, but I just quit paying the bill. It's now been at least 10 years, and I assume it's still affecting my crdit rating. The funny thing is, it was a First Premier Bank secured card, and just a week ago they sent me a preapproved offer for another card. (30% APR) no thank you!

Anyway, I look forward to the help this place has to offer.

Thanks

LoneWoof

Welcome!! Takes a little getting used to here. You would have to take your scan of the letter, save it as a graphics file, and upload it to a site that people use for pictures and graphics, like photobucket. - but if you're ot that familiar with this sort of thing, it's a risky thing to do, because even experienced people leave identifying info in those letters sometimes, and we have to take them down to protect your privacy.

The best thing to do it to start your own thread in the credit forum, maybe write out the basics for what your trying to discuss. It's better if you don't post your particular problem here, since this is really a kind of "welcome! How did you find us" forum. It gets even more confusing if each person tries to post their question all in the same place.

Looked at this board years ago when my credit was semi-bad. It got worse. Now I paid off ALL my debt, but have really bad marks. Instantly remembered the link and signed-up! Will be posting like a madman on here for the next couple months looking for the best advice! Then hopefully next couple years giving advice ...
