  1. Trying to find a cosigner to help my daughter with student loans. I was asked to find out if a cosigner on a student loan has their own debt to income ratio effected by cosigning. Thanks for any help.
  2. Greetings, Any recommendations on the best three credit reporting and FICO score monitoring companies to use? In the past I used totalcredit.com. My work needs became demanding, I was unable to monitor my credit as I liked so I canceled my subscription. When I tried to reactivate my account, I received a message to call customer service. After a month of trying to reach someone over the phone, I gave up. I’ve now subscribed to MYFICO which isn’t exactly what I’m looking for any recommendations?
  3. Hi CB - first off, truly impressed with the amount of information and knowledgeable people on this forum. I really appreciate all the information sharing and people willing to help. We are in the process of repairing our credit (wife + I). I recently ran my credit score on creditkarma.com and was shocked to see it drop to the mid 550s (thankfully my wife is hovering just above 700). Although I never maintained my credit report, I was definitely surprised to see it so low and it did serve as a wake up call! We have a goal to apply for our first mortgage in 2-3 years. After finding this foru
  4. Hi everyone! I apologize in advance for not being up to date with most of the acronym, I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I was dumb, 18 and thought I had it all figured out... Now I'm 25, in debt and the only thing I know is I want to get out of debt. It's taken me a long time to realize the importance of good standing credit. I've read a few stories on here and the amount of debt doesn't seem as overwhelming as others but in my eyes I feel like I'm drowning. On 1/24/2014 I went on to annualcreditreport.com to get my free credit reports and the only one I could access was T
  5. Hi All, I found this board by accident in Mid November and am so glad I did. I've been feeling quite a bit of despair regarding my bad credit. My bad credit forces me to live a life with very limited choices. I could give a heartbreaking story about why I am in this boat and tell you all about my ex-wife, divorce, custody etc and blame a lot of it on her. The simple truth is that I am to blame and I am the one who needs to fix it. What I like most about what I've read is the support given and genuine responses when good things happen. This is a great forum, and I can't wait to be a part of
  6. Hello All, As is said by many, this site is truly a godsend. I cannot commend you all enough for taking the time out of your schedules to assist people with rebuilding and understanding their credit. Thank you so much. I've been reading for awhile now and thought i'd take a stab at my first post in hopes of reaffirming the direction I think i should head. I get a bit overwhelmed when trying to figure out where to start. 1.) I've opted out 2.) I've sent letters to all CRA to remove old address. Below i've put on an excel spreadsheet the baddies on my account. I'm really ho
  7. I am wanting to buy a house in 2016 and also I want my credit to look good. I've spent so many years just not thinking about it and I want to fix it so I figure that gives me over a year to clean up my credit and make sure all my ducks are in a row. I have several closed negative accounts on my credit reports and some collections and a bankruptcy (which I probably should never have filed but unless someone knows where to get a TARDIS I am out of luck) and a judgement and current student loans. I get embarrassed just looking at it. On my credit report it shows date opened (I ordere
  8. So though I've been lurking for quite some time, I have decided to start my credit repair journey which literally has given me anxiety for the past 3 or 4 years (I have needed to do this for some time and I would start reading and researching and keep chickening out) because in two years I will be trying to get my daughter through college and because in 6 months we are moving back home to NY where we will be competing for apartments. Forgive me if I have newbie questions. I need to commit to this and just feel so overwhelmed! So far, this is what I have. All of these with the exception of
  9. So 32 days ago I disputed online via "smartcredit.com" a student loan that may or may not be a duplicate on my CR.... I have not heard anything back from anyone regarding this dispute. Of course I plan on waiting a few more days for any update via snail mail. I have not seen anything on my credit reports and I pull daily. I will be asking for total deletion of this account since it was not done in a timly manner. BUT what proof do I have that I disputed? I can't get anything to print on SC.com that shows proof of dispute. Since this dispute I've done everything else by mail. Nex
  10. I am in need of desperate help here. I am new to the creditboards forum and to the credit world. For years I avoided having credit cards and taking out loans, as this is the way that my mom and pop raised me. We did everything in cash. So here is my dilemma. I have read and re- read Whychat’s HIPPA program, warning I am so illiterate when it comes to credit reports and disputing things on it. So this is all foreign language to me. If I sound dum well I warned you lol I have this medical bill on my report by some CA. I owe $300.00 but they are reporting it as $350.00 ( I guess the $50 is th
  11. I have been reading for a while, still confused. I made a screen name so I can ask questions. Geez, I don't even know where to start, dispute or validate, opt out, etc. I want to do a 1-2 punch but I feel like I would mess it up. There is an address on my EX and EQ that NEVER belonged to me! I can't get my free report from TU, i don't know why. I feel overwhelmed! If I dispute the prior and false address on my report would they have 45 days (because) to fix as opposed to 30? Also, a collection from midland is being disputed (as said on both reports) and IDK why, i didn't initiate it on EX but
  12. Backstory, current situation, and question regarding my approach: I am 27 years old. When I was 21, I had a legal issue come up that caused me to lose my job. In the aftermath of this, I received a 20k judgement, had a brand new car repo'd (5 months after buying it), and my credit went to hell. I stopped paying on everything. Student loans, small 20 dollar store credits, etc. I ignored all of it. I started making pretty decent money as a web applications architect.. bought everything for cash (cars, motorcycles, boats). I sold them off. My terrible lifestyle finally came to a halt 12 month
  13. Hey friends, I sort of taken a recent interest in my credit (no pun intended?) and new to the scene and looking for some advice. Ive had bad credit after letting a bank of america secure card go and a bank of america account close back in 2006. Its not showing up now on my credit now and as of last year I opened a secured card with Navy Fed. It brought my score from around 535 per credit karma to now around 736. Ive had perfect payment history and only carried a balance once. I went up to about 95% util but paid it off before the next statement. I bumped it from 500 to 1200. I also
  14. I am a complete and utter newbie to all things "credit." I am having some trouble I have no idea how to handle and am VERY confused, if anyone here can help me, I would be most grateful. I have had 2 credit cards in my life, a WalMart card (which was gotten specifically to buy a computer) and a Capitol One card, both of which had extremely small limits. I paid off and closed the WalMart card in 2005 and the Capitol One card was written off with the disability insurance I had purchased on the card when I became disabled, also in 2005 and heard nothing more from them. In mid 2011, I
