  1. Living in Texas and law firm has Texas address. Was contacted by Rausch Sturm law firm who say they are representing portfolio recovery associates. They list the original owner of debt as Barclays credit card so I know it’s real. I want to pay the debt. It isn’t past the 4 year statute in Texas because original debt is from 2016. However, They do not indicate an offer. They just indicate I can contact them via phone or mail to discuss options. Should I wait till they make an offer? Should I call them or write a letter? I’ve seen websites discussing advantages of both calling and mailing so I’m not sure. I can afford to pay as much as 2000 of the listed 10k. Or can I do some kind of hardship payment plan? The law firm haven’t offered either option. Portfolio Recovery did, but I guess these guys have the debt now, so should I make a first offer or wait?
  2. Hello, firstly please if I’m creating this topic incorrectly guide me to the right way to do so as im not that familiar with writing in forums as I am reading them. So im trying to help my girlfriend open a bank account because last year we did the dumbest thing imaginable. We basically tried to scam her old bank TD bank with checks and it worked for a little bit until the checks bounced and they closer her account. At the time of this she was 17 years old and on a joint account with her foster mother. Now the only reason we did this stupid xxxx is because we were basically poor and needed money and didn’t quite understand the repercussions of our actions. I believe the account closed with $2000 owed. We don’t know what became of the balance as she’s not with that foster mother anymore. Now fast foward a year later to now, she’s been without an account since then and we’ve done some research on banks that don’t use Chexsystem. We’ve tried Chime bank, bbva, wells fargo, United bank, green dot actually sent her a debit card but then told her to destroy the card. We’ve tried capital one also. All those are banks that we’ve found online that offer second chance accounts and don’t use Chexsystem. All of them denied her. Is it because we tried back to back? Is there really any way for to even get an account anymore? Any help or advice would truly be appreciated and once again forgive me if im in the wrong place posting this and direct me to the right place. Thank you all.
  3. Back in April of 2018, I paid off a $2,000 dept to Bank of America and I believed I was officially cleared of any debts. Now it's September of 2018 and I decided to check my credit score and noticed it was a lot lower! Noticed the reports all came from Bank of America and I contacted them regarding the issue. They specifically told me I had a $36 debt that was not paid since when I paid off my debt to $0. Confused and inexperienced of knowledge about credit cards and how they worked, I paid the $36.00 and told them to close my bank so this does not happen again. 2 days later, I received a confirmation email that my account was closed. Thought it was over? Nope. Now it's November and I decided to check on my score.. noticed that my score went down again! And of course, the problem was Bank of America again. Contacted them once more and they told me that there is a charge of $38 on my account that needs to be paid. I told them I paid it and have the receipt to email if needed. They told me that they had ZERO record of payment nor notifications that my account was closed. Note, when I called them in September, I contacted them through their mobile app as I always do, to prove that it was actually their number I called. What should I do? Who should I contact to fix this? I'm a college student that is trying to better my score before I graduate. Thank you.
  4. Hello, So, I have two 30-day late payments on my Capital One Credit Cards (one on each card) from Nov 2017. Before I left on military orders on September of 2017 for training, I called them and told them I was being deployed and wanted to try and pay the annual fee a few months in advance, so I wouldn’t have any late payments since I wouldn’t have any contact with the outside world for literally 9 whole months. They said they don’t charge military members the annual fee, and they would waive it for me. After getting back on May of 2018, I pulled my credit report and saw I had 1 missed payment reported on each card. And I’m still confused to this day why. I thought it was probably just a mistake, and I was accidentally charged the annual fees. So I called them, and they said it was from some pending charges as well. I remember leaving with no balance though, and some of the charges don’t seem too familiar to me. Especially one place that I don’t think I’ve ever even been too. My memory is a little foggy though, since it was last year. Even to this day, and being with Capital One for years, I’ve never missed a payment. That is the only time to this day that’s happened. After calling several times, they said I could mail in a credit dispute with the description of the situation and how I’d like it resolved. I was going to mail in this letter (down below) along with my military orders, and the credit reports of the dates the late payments were reported. I’m hoping to be able to get this removed, as it’s affecting me of getting a better interest rate on a loan I’ve been shopping for. Any thoughts or suggestions? https://imgur.com/a/KemMr0r
  5. Basically, I'm wondering if it's worth it to pay collections if they don't accept my pay for delete offer to pay the entire bill. How will my score be affected if I pay it? Collections said the status would become paid in full. I'm dealing with Frontier communications (isp) and Credit Control Corp. Corp claims they are a 3rd party and that they do not ever sell the debt and that they're not exactly a collections agency. But they're the one's who reported a past due bill on to 2 of my 3 credit beaurues accounts. And everyone I've talked to there claim that their policy is to never ever delete anything. I asked what if someone is innocent, and their response was that it doesn't "ruin" their credit. These are the steps I've taken: Got fresh copy of all 3 credit reports Requested removal from experian (deleted) and equifax (not deleted) Requested proof of debt twice (they claimed they sent it twice, but I looked pretty diligently for it) Talked to 4 different reps and 1 supervisor, left voicemail for 2 other supervisors but never got a call back. Recorded most conversations and stated I was recording. Sent a pay for delete letter stating I'd pay the whole thing in exchange for deletion and that my offer is valid for 15 days.
  6. Folks, you have 2 choices: You can either sit there wondering why other people have what they have and can do what they can do, while you don't and can't, OR you can learn how to get what they have. I chose the latter. Here's my testimony: 10 months ago, my credit was so bad and scores were so low, I couldn't even borrow from myself (joke). I watched my brother fix up his and his wife's credit 15 years ago. Since then, they bought 2 homes, 1 in Baltimore and 1 in Pittsburgh. He was telling me that he was at the point where he could walk into any dealership and walk out with a new car, just like that, with no money down. I admit, I was kinda jealous of that. ME ON THE OTHER HAND, I remember one time coming home from driving over the road and trying to rent a car (with cash) for the weekend, and I couldn't because they required a credit card, which nobody in their right mind would ever give me. I was actually delusional enough to apply for a credit card. I'm surprised they didn't call the cops on me! 😂 I remember having to pay a huge deposit just to get a cell phone. 4 months after making a decision to fix my broken credit report, starting a credit repair program, learning the laws that govern debt collection practices, actually doing the work myself, as oppose to hiring some lame credit repair company (*caugh* Lexington Law) who just wants to make money off my misery, and learning how credit works, my credit scores went up nearly 200 points. My credit never looked this good in my life! Now, I'm getting approved for everything I couldn't before. All because I made a decision. Stop making excuses and start making that decision. Go get that house, car, loan, vacation, whatever it is you want or need that you think you can't.
  7. Hi all -- I'm new and happy to be here. Having already arbitrated with a P-to-P lender via JAMS and received a deletion and cash settlement, I am now ready to take on USAA. The issues are procedural (failure to report account as disputed to CRAs during lengthy direct dispute process) as well as substantive (duplicate account reporting for several months, inexplicably verified by EX and OC). My questions are these: When preparing the Demand for Arbitration for JAMS, is it best to include Experian as an additional defendant, or to arbitrate with them separately if necessary? I believe their TOS requires use of AAA. Does anyone have experience arbitrating with USAA? My inclination is that they will not settle as quickly as the P-to-P lender, who required some fight from me, but not all-out war. USAA seems like a different story. Note: I know that USAA uses AAA as the arbitration forum for credit card accounts, but I have a USAA FSB agreement that references JAMS, and the result letters USAA sent me all specifically come from USAA FSB, not the credit card operation.
  8. Hi, My namer is Jonathan Taylor I am posting to get help with a debt that I owe, that will go into collections. I do not have the funding to pay it off. so I need to know what are my other options? Please help thank you
  9. Hi new member, I have a question, I'm currently on a payment plan with NRA collection agency for about $5k in medical debt. Which i should have paid off within the next 6 months. But I want to know would it be wise to do the HIPPA process now to try to get it just removed from my report. and I still be able to make my monthly payments. Also they said they would remove it complete once the debt was paid in full.
  10. Hello all, Pulled my CR for the first time in 10 years. I am 50yrs old and noticed I had no new activity for the last 5 yrs...just my monthly mortgage pmt for the last 20 yrs and my truck loan paid off in 2013. Out of those two accounts I do have a lot of late payments. Mortgage (Chase) has 30 lates between Nov-2011/Sept-2017 and paid off closed truck (Santander) has 12 lates from Nov-2011/Feb-2013. trying to clean report up I did an online dispute with transunion thru Credit karma disputing all my lates. just got an email with dispute results stating the following below. Went straight to my CR and the only thing that changed was my name format. Just didn't know what the next step would be to try to rid of lates or if I should wait to see if anything changes/updates. didn't know changes if any should reflect immediately? Thanks, Noob Item Results Result: Disputed Information Updated And Other Information Updated - The item you were disputing has been updated, and there have also been some updates to your account info. You’ll see all of these changes on your report. Dispute Reasons Accuracy: The amounts, other than balance and/or past due, are incorrect. The payment history/rating is incorrect
  11. So I made a mistake and financed furniture for my first place. I was young and idoitic and signed a contract that stated all sales final. The contract also stated that I had seven days to get a refund for the merchandise. The merchandise was not in store and the company had to order it online. After a good nights sleep something felt off and I searched the furniture store and noticed most people got furniture that was nothing like what they wanted. I called both the financing company and the merchant to make good on their seven day policy. I never reccieved any furniture and did not walk away with anything. The merchant gave me the run around and said there was nothing they could do. The account was closed May 1st but re opened and charged May 14th. I disputed the charges as the furniture was never attempted to be delivered. I also mailed a cease and desist to both the merchant and the fiance company within the seven day period. The financing company said that I could not dispute the charges and that the contract was binding. I let them know that I still had not reccieved anything from the merchant and the financing company disputed it again. I checked my credit and the balance on the credit card dropped to zero. Is this because it’s in dispute? The balance did not decrease the first time I disputed it. I was young and made a mistake I’d just like to know my options.
  12. Trying to find a cosigner to help my daughter with student loans. I was asked to find out if a cosigner on a student loan has their own debt to income ratio effected by cosigning. Thanks for any help.
  13. Greetings, Any recommendations on the best three credit reporting and FICO score monitoring companies to use? In the past I used totalcredit.com. My work needs became demanding, I was unable to monitor my credit as I liked so I canceled my subscription. When I tried to reactivate my account, I received a message to call customer service. After a month of trying to reach someone over the phone, I gave up. I’ve now subscribed to MYFICO which isn’t exactly what I’m looking for any recommendations?
  14. Hi CB - first off, truly impressed with the amount of information and knowledgeable people on this forum. I really appreciate all the information sharing and people willing to help. We are in the process of repairing our credit (wife + I). I recently ran my credit score on creditkarma.com and was shocked to see it drop to the mid 550s (thankfully my wife is hovering just above 700). Although I never maintained my credit report, I was definitely surprised to see it so low and it did serve as a wake up call! We have a goal to apply for our first mortgage in 2-3 years. After finding this forum and reading the past week or so I think I'm ready to take some action. I'd be really grateful to anyone that takes the time to read through and confirm this is the correct approach and offer any advice. Pulled all 3 credit reports from annualcreditreport.com Opted out via outbound link disallowed.. I did the 5 year online method. I'm thinking we should do this permanently (we could always opt back in)? I am going to call to remove all old and inaccurate addresses/names/phone numbers in the "Personal Information" section. There was quite a few that are wrong or outdated. It seems this is probably the only thing CB suggests we remove via phone call? Or would mail be safer/better? Remove Negatives from our accounts. I have a few and they are as follows: 30 day late payments: I have mostly 1 late payment (30 days) across 7 different credit accounts. Should I write a "GOODWILL" letter and ask for an adjustment? Or should I ask first for the creditor to validate the account? If that fails should I keep asking for a Goodwill adjustment or ask for a Pay to Delete? Essentially question here - what is the best order of steps and if I do one will it affect the other (i.e. Goodwill adjustment will cause a validation attempt to be denied). Closed in Settlement: My wife has 2 accounts with Chase that were closed/settled for less than full balance. What is the best approach to get this removed? The unpaid balance ranges from 2-4k. If we do a pay to delete would we expect to pay that much? Finally, these accounts are expected to be removed from our report on 01/2017... should we just wait it out since we're not planning on buying a house any sooner? Closed accounts: We have a few accounts that just show as closed by "grantor". They appear to be in good standing, no late payments, no high balance... just closed by "grantor". Should I try to get these removed? If so, how? Once all the above is done, we're going to try to open some positive accounts, probably starting with a secured credit line. We also need to pay off some high balance accounts to improve our utilization ratio. So that's the plan! Please critique and let me know if I'm doing this right. I really appreciate it! Thank you ALL!
  15. Hi everyone! I apologize in advance for not being up to date with most of the acronym, I'm still trying to get the hang of it. I was dumb, 18 and thought I had it all figured out... Now I'm 25, in debt and the only thing I know is I want to get out of debt. It's taken me a long time to realize the importance of good standing credit. I've read a few stories on here and the amount of debt doesn't seem as overwhelming as others but in my eyes I feel like I'm drowning. On 1/24/2014 I went on to annualcreditreport.com to get my free credit reports and the only one I could access was TU, for some reason my computer couldn't pull up EX and EQ. Below I'll include what's on my TU and my notes/questions. Most of my debt is from 2007-2009 Which are: Chase Auto Finance -Date opened: 5/22/2008 -Remarks: UNPAID BALANCE CHARGED OFF -Estimated month and year item will be removed: 12/2016 I don't understand what "charged off" means. What happened was I couldn't make payments and ultimately the car was Repossessed. NORDSTROM FSB -Date opened: 11/10/2007 -pay Status: CHARGED OFF -Account Sale Info: Account would to MIDLAND FUND LLC -estimated month and year item will be removed: 08/2015 Since it's been sold to the CRA who do I go to to pay it off? Or because of the item being removed next year should I wait til it drops off? US BANK RMS CC -date opened: 5/01/2007 -remarks: charged off/ transferred to another lender to another office Estimated month and year item will be removed: 05/2015 Same question as Nordstrom account IQ DATA INTL INC -date opened: 4/21/2009 Remarks: placed in collections Estimated month and year item will be removed: 11/2015 This was from an apartment I was renting and ended the lease early. It's my highest amount so far originally was $5,504 now at $8,8011. I don't know if I should let this drop also or if I should work something out? I worry this particular debt would affect me in the long run if I wanted to buy a house. IQ DATA INTL INC -date opened: 03/24/2009 -remarks: placed for collections -estimated month and year item will be removed: 02/2016 This was from a cash advance place. Should I let this drop? Ok, if you're still reading this... Thank you! Here are my questions... Since these debts are estimated at dropping off by the end of next year should I even try to pay them off? Should I let them reach their SOL? My concern is that I'll get sued all at once, which is probably a possibility and I'll drown my self in more stress and more financial burdens... Also, I realize after reading on here, that I've made the mistake of paying the CRAs directly... Through the phone nothing in writing. I had 3 things of debt I was able to pay off right away and it's already been charged to my card.is there something I should do? Or is the damage done? I also had two other things of debt that I disputed with TU because one I had paid off a long time ago and the other the CRA I talked to told me it was an error (a debt that was sent to them and in error), I called the dispute office and they told me they'd investigate further... Should I be sending something in writing? Now I'm back to square one, I'm reading the newbie section of CB but I still don't understand what to do next... Please help! I know I've been irresponsible and naive and now I'm trying to get on the right track to being debt free. Thank you for your time and help!
  16. Hi All, I found this board by accident in Mid November and am so glad I did. I've been feeling quite a bit of despair regarding my bad credit. My bad credit forces me to live a life with very limited choices. I could give a heartbreaking story about why I am in this boat and tell you all about my ex-wife, divorce, custody etc and blame a lot of it on her. The simple truth is that I am to blame and I am the one who needs to fix it. What I like most about what I've read is the support given and genuine responses when good things happen. This is a great forum, and I can't wait to be a part of it. I'm taking it slow in the beginning because there is so much information. I've read and re-read the "required" material from psychdoc, whychat, newbie forum etc. Because of the reading I've done, I decided in Mid December to first opt out, I pulled my reports from creditreport.com, and just today I called TU to ask for my old address to be deleted. It was simple and easy and I had a bit of thrill run through my veins when he said yes and then deleted my phone numbers as well. I know this is the low hanging fruit of the path I'm taking, but its a great feeling to be in control! My next steps are to try for the deletion of my old address from equifax and experian, and then re-read all the info I've looked at in order to properly triage my baddies. If there is one question I have to begin with, it's this: Is creditreport.com an "okay" place to get my initial CR's? I've seen a lot of talk about myfico. Should I pull from there instead? I'm planning on being an active member in this forum and I look forward to talking with you and hopefully one day, offer my own advice as well.
  17. Hello All, As is said by many, this site is truly a godsend. I cannot commend you all enough for taking the time out of your schedules to assist people with rebuilding and understanding their credit. Thank you so much. I've been reading for awhile now and thought i'd take a stab at my first post in hopes of reaffirming the direction I think i should head. I get a bit overwhelmed when trying to figure out where to start. 1.) I've opted out 2.) I've sent letters to all CRA to remove old address. Below i've put on an excel spreadsheet the baddies on my account. I'm really hoping its possible to get some of these removed as certain searches on this site have given me less hope. I am currently in the middle of a streamline refinance of my home so I assume thats why the mortgage is listed twice below. My question is where is the smartest place to begin after the address situation is taken care of. I was assuming i would begin by calling the collection account for Express and demand a PTD, but I'm not sure if thats the best place to start. Theres also the credit one issue, i assume its in collections with them but I haven't received any calls. I also have the mortgage late issue which I'm not sure how to approach. I am current now but in 2012 had a few 30 and 60 days. Anyway, any help or direction would be great. I hope I've read up enough to post this, if not feel free to direct on something i should follow back up on. Thanks again everyone! 18. I am wanting to buy a house in 2016 and also I want my credit to look good. I've spent so many years just not thinking about it and I want to fix it so I figure that gives me over a year to clean up my credit and make sure all my ducks are in a row. I have several closed negative accounts on my credit reports and some collections and a bankruptcy (which I probably should never have filed but unless someone knows where to get a TARDIS I am out of luck) and a judgement and current student loans. I get embarrassed just looking at it. On my credit report it shows date opened (I ordered my three credit reports from protectmyid.com). All the accounts are valid except a fingerhut one that says revolving which I did not open and some student loan accounts that should say closed which I have already received advice on how to handle from the student loan boards so I do not believe I need to validate, I could be wrong though. 1.My first question is should I just dispute all of these because some of them are old and I am a bit confused as to whether or not disputing them would raise red flag and re-age them? 2. How do I know when they are scheduled to come off my credit report if it is only showing me the date opened? 3. This one may have been answered. I think I saw this on one of the boards when I was researching and learning, but cannot find it. I have some items on my report that are under potentially negative closed and they have no info as to who is trying to collect money. They just give part of an account number and say medical. How do I handle these? 4. I have an account (fingerhut) that is listed twice it has a different name one says METABNK/FHUT and the other says WEBBNK/FHUT everything else is the same except balance . Is it better to send an individual form with any supporting documents or just put everything on one form and put supporting documents behind it? As far as the public records go My bankruptcy shows date filed in 08/2005 does this mean it should come off around 08/2015. It does not show me a discharge date? My judgement was for medical bills. It also shows date filed. This was paid off because my wages were garnished for the bill. From what I understand it does not really matter if it was paid or not it stays on my record for 7 years. So it shows date filed on 2010 does not show paid or anything. Is there anything I can do or is it just a baddie I am going to have to live with on there? Thank you for any help and if any more information is needed please let me know.
  19. So though I've been lurking for quite some time, I have decided to start my credit repair journey which literally has given me anxiety for the past 3 or 4 years (I have needed to do this for some time and I would start reading and researching and keep chickening out) because in two years I will be trying to get my daughter through college and because in 6 months we are moving back home to NY where we will be competing for apartments. Forgive me if I have newbie questions. I need to commit to this and just feel so overwhelmed! So far, this is what I have. All of these with the exception of the first two are being reported to all 3 CRAs. I disputed the Midland $932.00 through the CRAs. This is a combo of two accounts that are WAY off. They came back as verified. I sent out a validation letter to Midland earlier this month for both accounts that are being reported on here. So far, one is showing as being in dispute and it says zero balance. I'm not sure how this effects my score. UGH I HATE Midland. SUCH a shady collection agency. THE First Premiers appear to be two accounts, when in fact it was one card I had with them. At the time I was living in NY and now I am in LA. I believe the SOL in LA for Credit Cards is 4 years? Would that apply to this even though it originated in NY? Any help anyone can provide would be so greatly appreciated. So far I have opted out and deleted old addresses. 20. So 32 days ago I disputed online via "smartcredit.com" a student loan that may or may not be a duplicate on my CR.... I have not heard anything back from anyone regarding this dispute. Of course I plan on waiting a few more days for any update via snail mail. I have not seen anything on my credit reports and I pull daily. I will be asking for total deletion of this account since it was not done in a timly manner. BUT what proof do I have that I disputed? I can't get anything to print on SC.com that shows proof of dispute. Since this dispute I've done everything else by mail. Next step?
  21. I am in need of desperate help here. I am new to the creditboards forum and to the credit world. For years I avoided having credit cards and taking out loans, as this is the way that my mom and pop raised me. We did everything in cash. So here is my dilemma. I have read and re- read Whychat’s HIPPA program, warning I am so illiterate when it comes to credit reports and disputing things on it. So this is all foreign language to me. If I sound dum well I warned you lol I have this medical bill on my report by some CA. I owe $300.00 but they are reporting it as $350.00 ( I guess the $50 is their fee). I had no insurance at the time, so there is no EOB. I have taken the following steps so far: Opted out Requested my CR via mail and I was able to get it online I got my old addy’s deleted (only with TU), although nothing on my credit report is linked to the old addy’s Now I want to start the HIPPA program here is what I understand so far: Step 1 Dispute medical bill to all 3CRA wait to see if it is validated or not. NOW THIS IS WHERE IT GETS CONFUSING FOR ME: Once it comes back as verified do I contact the CA using the validation letter, sending cert. mail? Wait for a response from the CA? Then What? Contact the OC (hospital) with OR Contact the health care provider using “letter to health care provider” with the payment sending Cert mail. Then inform dispute with the 3 CRA as inaccurate reporting? OR Better yet can I just send payment to the health care provider with the HIPPA violation note, once I confirm that they did cash the MO, I can then dispute it with the 3 CRA as not reporting as valid? Oh boy this is quite overwhelming; I have faith that I will get it right!! Any help is appreciated. I am locked and loaded; I just need a target to shot my letters to!
  22. I have been reading for a while, still confused. I made a screen name so I can ask questions. Geez, I don't even know where to start, dispute or validate, opt out, etc. I want to do a 1-2 punch but I feel like I would mess it up. There is an address on my EX and EQ that NEVER belonged to me! I can't get my free report from TU, i don't know why. I feel overwhelmed! If I dispute the prior and false address on my report would they have 45 days (because) to fix as opposed to 30? Also, a collection from midland is being disputed (as said on both reports) and IDK why, i didn't initiate it on EX but I did dispute on EQ and it came back verified. BOGUS!!!! . However, the information is wrong. Its an EXTREMELY inflated collection from TMOBILE (I owed them in the ball park of $800-1000) but somehow it became $1,900+! And reporting as open or gone to collections in 2011. I had Tmobile from march 2008-2009(november of 2009 is when I was about 60 days overdue and never paid them ,I got sprint. They started sending me collections in 2010 but I know I Can't find them. I'm not sure if midland sent the collections or not but it was a collector.). So the latest it should report delinquent is mid 2010? Did Midland reage my account? When I dispute to a CRA, should I write in blue ink on legal paper or what? Is that out? Should I only dispute after I validate? I feel like I had a plan before I saw my credit report, and now Im baffled for some reason. Can anyone help? 23. Backstory, current situation, and question regarding my approach: I am 27 years old. When I was 21, I had a legal issue come up that caused me to lose my job. In the aftermath of this, I received a 20k judgement, had a brand new car repo'd (5 months after buying it), and my credit went to hell. I stopped paying on everything. Student loans, small 20 dollar store credits, etc. I ignored all of it. I started making pretty decent money as a web applications architect.. bought everything for cash (cars, motorcycles, boats). I sold them off. My terrible lifestyle finally came to a halt 12 months ago. I almost took my own life.. but thats another story. Life is great now! I'm very happy. Time to fix this mess I put myself in. I currently have 18-22 negative items on my report (depending on which you pull).. some are duplicates.. 9 of them are the same 2 student loans over and over again. I have a 10k tax lien as I haven't filed taxes for 6 years. I still have the 20k judgement from when I was 21, which was "officially" entered into the system in 2011. I'm not sure why it took 3-4 years for it to make it there. I have another 1500 judgement. I have one 7k collection for a repo'd vehicle. Everything else are smaller little things here/there. I hired a CPA last week, to the tune of 1000, to get my six years of tax returns handled. This will result in me entering into a monthly payment plan with the IRS. At least I'm going to avoid garnishment. I'm hoping I can have that lien removed.. but who knows. I have gone down the negatives on my credit reports, with the exception of student loans/judgements, and called every creditor. I have made lump sum payment arrangements starting 8/30/2013. I made small 20-30 dollar payments to each one to "get the ball rolling", but the remainders are occurring 8/30/2013 and 9/15/2013, respectively. This should take care of almost everything on my credit report, except IRS/Judgements/Student Loans/leftover repo gap. I started at a new job 3 months ago on a 90 day contractor to hire. I was hired officially two weeks ago at an annual salary of 110,000. I'm taking my ~6000 (after 3k in taxes, ugh) monthly salary and putting everything not already owed to utilities/rent towards this debt. I estimate, except for the IRS, my 7k leftover gap for the repo'd vehicle, and my larger judgement, to have this all paid off within the next 6 weeks. Is this a good approach? Some of these items are 6 years old. But they all seem to have "bounced" around between creditors.. and have been re-entered on my report as early as this year. The car was from 2007. I signed up for Lexington Law a month ago and have been letting them send off "remove this stuff" letters. I'm hoping this helps. I do have a few duplicates on my record. I know very little about these matters. I've always made great money, usually as a contractor, and spent until there was nothing left. I'm slowly learning how to budget.. I've taken full responsibility and am working towards paying these items off. I just don't know if I'm taking the best approach. Sorry for rambling. I started reading through all the newbie/starter questions and I just want a straight answer. Should I be using various tactics here? Payment in exchange for deletion? NDA etc? I drive an old beater vehicle I bought at auction for 5k.. and it is nearing the end of its life. My FICO (Experian) is 526. Am I crazy to think I could be "purchase a new car" material within the next few months? My girlfriend issued out an additional card on one of her 1k credit cards. For some reason this is reporting to my credit score as positive every month. I'm paying the bill for her as a result. So that is one good thing!
  24. Hey friends, I sort of taken a recent interest in my credit (no pun intended?) and new to the scene and looking for some advice. Ive had bad credit after letting a bank of america secure card go and a bank of america account close back in 2006. Its not showing up now on my credit now and as of last year I opened a secured card with Navy Fed. It brought my score from around 535 per credit karma to now around 736. Ive had perfect payment history and only carried a balance once. I went up to about 95% util but paid it off before the next statement. I bumped it from 500 to 1200. I also just got a secured card through Capital One (in retrospect thinking i should have just applied for a regular card through them!) Anyway my FICO scores from TU and EQ are 712 and 716 respectively now (dont know about experian) but im looking to start getting some more lines of credit. Heres the skinny NavyFed supposedly will unsecure in about 15 days Cap one secured will start showing up in about 21 days I am looking to rent apartments soon. I have 2 hard pulls for the entire year My questions are ...would applying for GE Bank cards (Amazon, Walmart) mess things up with Navy Federal making a decision to unsecure me? Will that impact my score enough to make landlords suspicious? should i just sit my happy flowers down and wait until the navy fed unsecure and new place is over with? On a side note what do u guys think about keeping capital one secured card for 6 months and then going for a venture card or something like that Ultimate goal is to keep cash rewards with navy federal forever (because they have been the best) Obtain a travel rewards card that I can use for business travel through capital one or whoever has the best. and then have something like amazon and walmart cards and possibly a NavCheck line of credit through navy federal Thanks in advance!
