Hello! I have approximately $16,000 of student loan debt spread over five loans (all Sallie Mae). My credit report shows that I have 6 installment loans (5 SL's plus one auto loan). This is considered a negative according to my credit score tracker that I have with my Discover card. So my question is, will consolidating the student loans raise my credit score by decreasing the amount of open installment loans? I do not want to extend the loan length nor do I want to lower my total monthly payments, I'm strictly trying to raise my credit score as I'm preparing to buy a house next year. Thanks in advance for any opinions/advice!

When I last applied for a mortgage, my scores were EQ-637 TU-623 EX-631. I pulled reports w/scores recently, EQ screwed something up (reported 0, I'm dealing with that) but I got TU-685 and EX-616 I don't see anything that should account for that big of a bump on my TU score, so what I'm wondering is - how reliable can I consider the scores sent by the CRA's vs. the scores that a bank will get pulling my credit for a mortgage? I'm shooting for that 'magic' 640 but I don't want to even move on anything again until I can be reasonably sure I'm there (obviously, I want to avoid too many inquiries)

Hello, I had comcast since 2008 and always made my payments, 6 months ago I moved to a different state. I was sent to collections without my notice, comcast or collections never called me or anything. I log into my credit experin and I see that I have $860.37 unpaid and brought down my score 100 points, I opened a BBB report, I had this lady who said if you pay the $860.37 that she will contact the credit bureau and get the collection removed but I dont believe her since she never replied to my email when I asked her to send me an itemized bill to show why I owe $860.37, I dont owe them anything and they dont want to provide anything to show that I owe them that amount, they also blocked me from login comcast.com. So now i have bad credit because of comcast sent me to collections for no reason. I would like to know if I pay them what they are asking for, will my credit go back like it was? , even though I dont owe them anything, I rather pay the amount so I can get my credit back. THanks

Tip to get $50 off monthly credit reports and scores
DebtCreditRepair posted a topic in Credit Forum
I signed up with Credit Reports . com and paid $1 and got my free scores from all 3 CRAs for a 7-day trial membership. Then, I requested to cancel my membership within the 7-day trial period (they bill $24.95 each month), however, the good news is that they offered to discount their fee by 50%. Now I pay only $12.95/mo. Best of all, I perform daily Exp “soft pulls” which never huts my score; plus, of course, I get full tri-merged (Exp/TU/Efx) reports with scores every 30 days, report monitoring via tex/email, and all of the other credit monitoring bells and whistles.- 8 replies

I'm in the process of buying a house and was surprisingly declined for a mortgage. Apparently. a TD Bank credit card that had go to collections in 2009 due to loss of job was still reporting a balance of $1,095. I paid the card off in full on 12/22/2010 and didn't realize TD Bank had been reporting incorrect info for the past 3 years. I contacted TD Bank and was directed to Card Services. Card Services said that my account still had an unpaid balance. I told them I paid it off nearly 3 years ago and was transferred to an account specialist. The account specialist confirmed that it was indeed paid off in full and also faxed me a letter confirming it. He said there was nothing he could do as far as getting my credit report updated and that I should file a dispute with the credit bureau's. He put a note on my account stating it was paid that way when the CRA contacted Card Services the correct info would be reported. I filed a dispute with Transunion and Equifax. Experian already contained the correct information. I was able to fax Transunion the confirmation letter that I had and my credit report was fixed. Equifax wouldn't allow me too. They said that they had to do their own investigation. They contacted TD Bank and Card Services completely ignored the note on my account and reported the incorrect information again for the second time. I spent several weeks calling TD Bank everyday on my lunch break seeking a resolution. TD Bank's Card Services wouldn't help me at all. They would just transfer me to the same account specialist every time. The specialist said Card Services is dropping the ball and that there's nothing he can do. After several weeks of talking to this guy he said that apparently card services and other departments don't correspond, creating a huge flaw in the system. One department shows paid while the other doesn't. At this point I was fed up and said I'm getting a lawyer and that they were in violation of the fair credit reporting act. He asked if it was ok to use my account as a case study to prove to management the severity of the problem and that he was about to go over his bosses head. Well that worked, I got an apology letter from the manager of card services. In the letter she stated they were going to fix my credit report but it may take a few weeks to update. I checked my reports/scores just under 2 weeks ago and Equifax hadn't updated yet. I checked again today and the updates had gone through but I was shocked at my credit scores. My Experian score dropped 91 points, my transunion dropped 4 points and my Equifax went up 54 points. How could my Experian score drop so much when it was the only report that was correct since the beginning? Nothing changed on it. After 2 months of fighting with TD to fix my equifax report I finally thought I was getting somewhere. My lender said once I got TD Bank to correct my Equifax that my home loan would be approved but now I'm worried that my Experian score may now be an issue. What should I do? Should I take legal action against TD. Their incorrect reporting has had a huge impact on my life. I had a really hard time getting a car loan and credit card this past summer. My car loan, credit cards and insurance rates are all much higher than they should be due to this.

Hi, everyone, On my CRAs, I have a paid federal tax lien from 2011, a paid judgment from 2010, and one installment loan (auto) that is paid on time every time. I recently applied for an Amazon store card (GE money) but was denied. Do you think I should try to recon? I just got a Capital One secured card but it won’t have any reporting yet because it’s so new. This is what the denial letter gave as reasons: Too few revolving accounts Too many inquiries in the last six months Lack of bank revolving information Account in collection or 60 days past due or adverse public records The letter also says my credit score was 417. Ridiculous. They pulled TU, and according to FICO, my score at the time was 649. Do you think it’s worth disputing the score reported with TU, or reconning GE? Thanks for your advice.

So after months of reading through the forums and disputing the accounts on my credit reports I am seeing things fall off and my score rising. Once I break 600 on each on I am thinking about applying for a secured credit card. The only revolving account I currently have is my auto loan which is in good standing. I have managed to stay away from opening an new accounts so that I am not hit with a load of inquires, nor do I have an public records (i.e. bankruptcies, tax liens, and court judgments) on my credit report. I have 3-4 accounts on each that I working to completely pay off so that each is clean and I can start rebuilding a clean line of credit. This forum has been extremely helpful!!!! Scores over the past 6 weeks!!! Equifax 10/1/2013 565 Equifax 11/19/2013 576 Experian 10/1/2013 578 Experian 11/19/2013 597 Transunion 10/1/2013 565 Transunion 11/19/2013 586

Hi, guys, I am new to credit awareness and this board but I’ve found your comments tremendously educational and I’m ready to tackle my credit problems. Here’s my situation: I checked my credit report and scores for the first time two weeks ago and this is what I found: Scores: 593; 632; 649. Collections: Several medical bills from 2008 (six for around $200 each). I disputed them online and they were actually deleted! Whoa. It works. There is another collection for $1500 that wasn’t deleted and was updated last month. It’s from the same CA as the other smaller ones that were, so I’m not sure of my next step. I don’t want to do anything to cause them to re-add those other ones. Should I HIPAA the CRAs first or the CA? Derogatory/Public Records: 1 IRS tax lien, satisfied in 2011. They now have a program where they will remove liens from public records and I applied for that last week. Fingers crossed. There’s also a default civil judgment from 2010 which I’ve also paid. Should I try a GW letter to the OC or their attorney? Or GW letter to the CRAs? I actually don’t remember being served this lawsuit (hence the default judgment) but I’m going to go the courthouse and check the record of how they served. Maybe they served a past address and maybe that would be grounds to have it vacated. It’s a long shot, I know. That’s it for negatives. As for positives, I have one car loan that I got 2 ½ years ago. The interest rate is 17 percent but I wasn’t going to get a better offer and I needed a car as my old one had died. I wouldn’t be able to refinance because I owe less than $7,000 on the loan. I hadn’t credit card in 10 years. I got used to paying in cash and thought that was good but I realize that I cannot opt-out of the credit-based society because it’s counting against me in so many ways. So I applied for a Capital One secured card two weeks ago and have a $350 limit. I had applied for a Barclays credit card but was declined. I am going to use the Capital One responsibly for four months and then try again for another credit card if my scores go up appreciably. Is it realistic of me to expect to get a real CC so soon with the judgment and single medical collection on my CR? I expect the lien will be removed. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I’ve learned so much reading your forums. Thanks!

Hello, I was wondering if you could shed some light into a few different issues here. My DH pulled his CR yesterday using experian.com. According to this site, his CS for Experian and TU was 656, and 666 for Equifax. However, we were talking to a mortgage broker who pulled his CR and he said it was 598. The broker said that mortgage companies use a different algorithm to calculate CS. Is this true? Is one method / website of monitoring credit more accurate than another. I just found these amazing boards, and I'm revved up about fixing our credit once and for all. For the past four months, I had been using Lexington Law to dispute some of my baddies, they were able to remove some things but we haven't seen much improvement in our score. I just cancelled with them and want to attack on my own. My question is: there are a few things showing disputed on my CR that Lexington initiated. Should I wait until all those are resolved before I remove old addresses and start sending DV letters? Or should I go ahead and start now anyway? My scores right now are 651 on Experian, 566 in TU, and 502 in Equifax. I bought a car last month and 17 inquiries are showing on Equifax, which I'm guessing is contributing to my lower score there. How long for the inquiries to not affect my score so dramatically? That's a huge diff between scores. Thank you! My ques

I guess no suprise that it was coming. My score went to (insert bad word here) a couple of years ago. Since then I've managed to get it back up into the mid 600's, but now the judgment lawsuits are starting apparently. I suspect they're filing them before the stuff hits the three year statue of limitations in my state. So how will those judgments affect my score for items that are already on the report and have been charged off a couple of years ago? Will this send my score back to 500 again? Thanks for any insight and responses about what to expect.

Hello, Thanks in advance for any helpful answers to my question. I forgot I had a bill, then changed my phone number and address. The bill was forwarded to a collection agency, which didn't contact me because my phone number changed. I am trying to take out a mortgage and the unpaid bill from the collection agency now shows on my credit report. It is my understanding that if I pay the bill, the mark from the collection agency (stating that I had a bill that was outstanding but was paid) will stay on my credit report for 7 years. Is this correct, or is there any way to have the collection agency remove the mark from my credit? Also, if I pay the bill, and this is reflected on the collection agency mark on my credit report, is my credit score lowered less than if there is an unpaid bill from the collection agency on the credit report? Thank you.

I received my credit score from transunion today and then i got my full report from creditscore.com and the score they showed for transunion was over 100pts off than the one transunion gave me directly? Is it safe to assume the score transunion actually gave me is the more accurate score? why would the be so different, creditscore.com not as up to date as transunion? thanks.......

I have a credit card that is only reporting on Experian the weird thing is the company is no longer in business but it is still reporting open. This has been a real jump in my score though, is there anyway to get the other 2 agency's to report this. Or should I just leave it alone?

Hello, First off I'm glad I found this site. I've been at my job for about 2months now. And I'm earning a steady income. I've been thinking of purchasing a new car (2011) or (2012). Depends if I get a good APR% and my loans stay between 300-400. What would ve the first step. My credit score is about 540-560 on all three Credit Bureaus. I know what car I want, and I know how much it costs. (Advertised price only) Can ve lower through the power of negotiation. Hopefully someone can really help me out. Thanks in advance.

So my TU credit score is 684. My CC utilization is 10%. I have car payment that has always been on time (2.5 years). I have zero negative items. Just 2 hard inquires and I just got denied a Citibank card. I also asked my Capital One card that I got a long time ago (but only $500 limit) for an increase because I could really use some more credit right now since I"m getting married in a few months. My credit score used to be bad but I've done everything I can over the last few years to make it better. i finally thought a 684 would be good enough. Also I make over $100k and only owe $9k in student loans. Any thoughts on why I'm being denied? I'm so frustrated right now. Any opinions or advice would be much appreciated.

Hi All, How long have you noticed does it take Equifax to update a request to remove/delete from a creditor? An OC that held 4 of my hubby's negative student loans has agreed to remove the accounts on his credit reports from all major bureaus. This was last week. Experian removed 3 of the 4 (working on disputing the 4th one as im not sure why that one was left on if they went ahead and removed the others already). Transunion, bless their hearts, removed all 4 already. But Equifax has yet to remove any- do they usually take 30 days or so to update/remove? Anything I can do in the meantime to push this along? Thanks in advance.

Hi, Had a question for the group. My husband and I have been working tirely on getting some student loans removed from his report, After rehabilitation, original lenders and servicers, we are finally starting to see things move along. 2 days ago, the original servicer of the loans (4 in total) agreed to remove the accounts as a good will! I checked his experian and it appears 3 of the 4 have been removed already. Should we expect the last one to remove soon? I assumed when the received the request they would do them all at once-typically not this quick might I add...but since they did do it already, I'm worried about the one still remaining. Any thoughts on this? Advice appreciated...thanks!

What does it take for an entity to affect one's credit score? Can an entity that someone owes money to affect one's credit score with just the last 4 digits of their social security number, their name, and their address?

Hey guys, I started my credit history 10 months ago with a secured 99/500 Bank of America Cashrewards and the secured Capital One. So far, I've always PIF, and kept a low utilization (<20%). Last week, my BOA GRADUATED to an unsecured card, and they increased my CL from $500 to $1,000, so that's a very good news. Today, my Credit Karma score DROPPED 45 POINTS!! With the following notifications: - The limit on 1 of your credit cards has increased. (That's the BOA) - Your previously unused CAP ONE account is now reporting a balance. (I forgot to USE my Capital one card for a month...) Note that I have made no credit inquiries whatsoever. I really don't understand, I've been working very hard on my credit and my score has increased consistently in the last 10 months. What happened? Is it possible that NOT using a CC for a month lower your score? Did BOA do a weird HP when graduating my card? (Note that I didn't ask for anything, and that credit karma does not show a pull). Please help, thanks!

So just to give a bit of background on my situation. While I was in college I made the dumb decision to get credit cards and 'live beyond my means' as a result I pretty much destroyed my credit report/score. However, I have been blessed with a good job (make a salary of $67,500) and as a result I am proud to say that I have paid off all of my accounts that were late, in collections, or judgments. I still have 4 current items on my credit report which are: (2) student loans, (1) personal loan, & (1) credit card. All of these have a 100% on-time payment history. Furthermore, my credit utilization on my credit card is at or below 25% each month. I was also able to work out PFD with 3 collection agencies so those negative trade lines will be removed from my credit report. I am at a place in life that I am tired of throwing money away every month on rent and am looking to build some equity and would like to purchase a house in the next 9-18 months. So I was hoping I could get some answers to the following questions: 1. With getting some collection agencys to remove negative trade lines will that help my credit score improve? 2. Any tips on what I could be doing to see my credit score continue to increase? 3. How much will more score increase monthly? 4. Any additional information would be helpful! Thanks for everyones help!

Hello everyone, I am frustrated and need advice. So i have been working to get my cc score up to buy my first house. It was going well my score got to 630 and wells fargo said wait another month till it gets to 640. so this month comes and my score dropped 47 points due to credit card utilization. Last month i rented a car and paid it off before the bill date. the problem is i only have 2 credit cards with a 300 limit and the rental car came to 265 and then on the back end they charged me some bogus fees and went over the limit on my card by $40. I paid it off before the due date but still got hit hard. Now i may be waiting another month or two hoping it goes up. I thought that keeping your balance under 9% helped your score but does this mean during a billing month to never go above 9% on the card? To my understanding you could go higher as long as you paid it in full before the due date. It seems i am way off here. Please help. One last thing would opening up a secured card with $1000 help me get my score back up in the next 2 months by having a card with a higher limit or will that hurt me do to the hard pull? Thanks in advance
