  1. This thread is to compile a list of cards that you should not get for any reason. People often come to CB with really low scores thinking that they have to settle for sub sub prime cards, when there is no reason to add these cards. I made the same mistake myself opening a Credit One account early on in rebuilding. One of the main problems, other than the fees often associated with these cards, is that they will leave evidence of credit problems once your reports are clean. Even after they are closed, they will continue to report for 10 years. so is Ebola... Let's keep this thread focused on specific cards. General advice can be found in these threads: ADVICE: How to avoid toy card hell The Master Secured Credit Cards Thread Cards to avoid for any reason: Credit One First Premier Bank Fingerhut Continental Finance Horizon
  2. Hi all!! Small question, I was upgraded to the regular card with Fingerhut from the "fresh start" program on Dec 17th. My Credit Karma went from 565 to 627, I know those scores don't count. Anyway, when would I be able to apply for another starter card or easy approvals? Before the fingerhut reported, I applied to Target and was told I needed revolving accounts. Now I wish I had waited to apply. That was a couple months ago. I also have 4 inquiries on TU and a couple on EQ. I have a couple baddies (T-Mobile) $247 and $455 on TU and EQ and one or two collections that are set to fall off within the year. Experian is a different story and has tons which I am disputing because I have no idea what they are. Thank you!!!
  3. Fingerhut just gave me an unsolicited cli up to $2450. Just wondering - what is the highest Fingerhut limits you've seen? Do they get up to the 10s of thousands? (only reason I have Fingerhut is they were the first to grand me credit when I started rebuilding)
  4. Even though closing a credit account goes against every fiber of my being, I finally pulled the trigger and closed one. Fingerhut has had me with a CL of $235 dollars since 2005. No matter what I did I couldn't get a CLI. They did send something one time saying if I used credit up to $400 dollars that my CL would stay at that level. (Nice way to make someone spend money on high priced junk). But I didn't bite. My avg CL is over $16,000 with over 25 accounts opened so I figured what the heck. Called in and they asked why I was closing it. Said the CL wasn't high enough. The CSR said they review CR's 10 times a year and CLI automatically. I said that's funny because my scores are from 795 to 815 and I've never had one. So it's closed and I feel pretty good about it. I only bought 2 items in 10 years so I'm sure that has something to do with never getting a CLI also. On to bigger and better things I guess
  5. Hey all, I am working on cleaning things up on my credit and it appears Fingerhut it's reporting 4 times as OC and one CA (midland) What's the best way to attack this? Thanks!
  6. Okay, Fingerhut sold account to CA. I am settling with CA for 40% and they claim that They will not report that to Fingerhut. How do I get rid of OC on report? No PFD avail through CA (midland) and not paying whole balance. Tried to get Fingerhut to recall, no luck Any words if wisdom?
  7. So I have read a lot on this site where Fingerhut is applied for to add positive trade lines to the CR while rebuilding, so i figured I would give it a shot and received this........ APPLICATION RESULTS You're Approved! Your Credit Limit: $600.00 Credit Account Number: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Your Customer Number: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Woohoo!!!!!! Its not much but its a step in the right direction I think. Ive read that multiple inquiries from the same lender in the same day condense to one inquiry, so i am wondering If I should apply to other Webbank cards (if there are any?) Do I have to make a purchase for it to start reporting? Also how often should I make a purchase to keep it open? Thanks!!!!!
  8. Hello all, hopefully someone can help me with this. I opened a Fingerhut "Fresh Start" back in August of this year and purchased a small item and paid it off. Recently, on Nov 11 they sent me an email stating that I have graduated from Fresh Start program to a regular credit card with $250 limit. So I was getting excited thinking that this account would be considered "revolving" and not "installment" on my credit reports. I checked my Equifax today and it says that my Fingerhut account is "Closed" by me, which is untrue. Should I dispute this or call Fingerhut and tell them?? Thank you for your help.
  9. Just noticed that my Fingerhut account has suddenly stopped reporting on TU. I've had this account since 2005 and this is the 3rd TL for Fingerhut because they've changed BANKS that handle their Credit Cards twice since I've been with them. Thankfully everytime they change it's NOT listed as a "NEW" TL but reports as being open and active since 2005. So for this 1 little Fingerhut account, it's reporting on my CR 3 times with 2 of them marked "transfered" and the 3rd one open. It had been reporting on my EQ and TU since it was transfered. But about 4 days ago it STOPPED reporting on my TU and because of this my score dropped from 789 to 780, a 9 point drop on my TU score. It's an USAA FAKO score. My TU FICO took a 2 point dip to 778 too. I'm sure it's because it had a bad impact on my AAOA, Since all 3 Fingerhut TL's were reporting 3 TL's that were 8 years old. Was wondering if anyone elses Fingerhut account has suddenly stopped reporting to their TU report. I'm hoping this is some kind of a glitch that will sort itself out ASAP.
