  1. In my late teens I was out on my own and very troubled. I used to need weekly therapy visits and other various medical services, and though I had insurance through the community college I was going to, I often couldn't pay the copayments. I let the bills stack in a high pile in my living room, and going near them put me into a panic attack. Around 7 years ago I decided enough was enough. I checked my credit reports and found that my scores were in the low 500's, and I had 5-7 collections on each report. I also had a credit card with a $2k limit, which I had maxed out for car repairs years prior and was only able to make minimum payments on. In addition, I had some delinquencies for a Sallie Mae student loan, who offer zero forbearance options. And then I found creditboards and decided to do something about all of this. Updated all personal info, removed old info Opted out of marketing and pre-screening WhyChat's HIPAA process for removing the medical collections Waited 2+ years and disputed Sallie Mae lates Paid off Auto loan with no late payments Disputed other small non-medical collections like one from Verizon (they barely gave me time to pay an overdue bill one time and went straight to the CA's) And finally, used my tax return refunds and job raises to pay down the credit card 7 years later, all collections from my reports are gone. All delinquiencies are gone. My credit card debt is zero. Unfortunately, I have a huge amount of installment history due to my student loans (around $70k total) but they are all in good status. I recently checked my FAKO and FICO scores just to get a general idea. 7 years ago: All scores in low 500's After years of certified mailings, phone calls, and research... Jan. 2014, before SallieMae lates removed and CC not paid off EX: 691, EQ: 730, TU: 673 July 2014, all collections and lates removed and CC paid off EX: 780, EQ: 779, TU: 782 My medical debt was the biggest and worst part, I had over a dozen collections. WhyChat's process helped me. Thank you, WhyChat and creditboards!
  2. Well today is my one year anniversary of being discharged from Chp 13 bankruptcy. The good part is because of Creditboards, I now have $40k worth of available credit, two car loans (which I'm thinking about refi) and a few fantastic credit unions. To the newbies if you see this -- don't take offense to what these boards have to tell you and the responses to your questions I can guarantee you that most of their responses are right on point and are valuable advice. Oh and my just to share my own experience I got a little carried away with the shopping cart trick and got highly addicted to approvals, but I quickly came down off that ledge when I was declined for too many new accounts....so I'm still reading and working on rebuild, but the leaps and bounds I have made are awesome and I owe it to each and every contributor here. Just wanted to say thanks (and of course any more advice is always appreciated)!!! Now I will take my little self to the garden where I will remain probably until Christmas or even January 2015. Love you guys, Blqbutterfly
  3. Hey there, I recently turned 18 and want to get a new car on my own (parents won't co-sign). I am considering leasing or financing a BMW, as my car is a bit older. The problem is that I haven't developed credit yet. What isn't a problem is my income, I make plenty to pay for the lease estimate ($550/month). I also won't have a problem getting insurance or setting up an auto pay or anything like that either. So, before I go to a dealership and make a fool out of myself (if I can't pull it off), I was wondering what options are available and any ideas. Thanks a bunch.
  4. Hi all- Quick question. My good friend owns a home that has recently appraised at around $825,000. He has 1 mortgage and that's for $398,000. His income is roughly $42k per year. His credit is bad/fair, no bankruptcies or foreclosures, mainly charged off cards. We're wondering, does anyone think he could qualify for a loan for $80,000 based on the equity in his home? We've yet to apply anywhere; first wanted to run this past the pros here. (I'm usually over in the credit forum). Oh, and if so, with whom do you think he should apply? THANKS!

  6. I went through a divorce a couple of years ago. One of the stipulations of the decree was that my ex was to have my name removed from the mortgage, instead she let the house get foreclosed on, and as we all know it has completely affected my credit. Is there anything I can do, like get a lawyer, go back to court, or something else, to get this foreclosure removed from my credit. I have already spoke with the bank and they don't care what the decree states. Any help would be appreciated Thanks
  7. Say I have a card that is maxed out (which I do, actually a few and they're all getting paid off or almost off this cycle).... If the due date is 6/20 and I pay the balance off on 6/19, the statement date is 6/22 and I don't charge anything else on it....Exactly when will it hit my credit report that it's at 0% utilization? I don't see a report date on my credit report (it just says 'last reported on-5/22 with my statement amount') Does that mean they report on the 22nd? Thanks!!
  8. I've don't recall having a Chase account. I think the account is an account Providian alleged I owned at some point (Providian--->WAMU--->Chase). The account was sold to Equable Finance. INC. And I was taking to court over the debt maybe two years ago. I won the case because they were not able to furnish any agreement with my signature to actually prove the account was owned by me. After several letters to Equable Finance. INC. I was able to have them remove their negative TL off all three CRA. The problem is Chase is still report the alleged debt the three CPA which is greatly impacting my credit score. Any advice on how I should go about having Chase delete the negative TL. I am unable to determinate the DOFD. Its a little confusing to me Hence why I listed it this way DOFD... CLS = closed so how could I have a closed account, then several months later it reported as 30 delinquent?? DOFD: 2010 2009 DEC NOV OCT SEP AUG JUL JUN MAY APR MAR FEB JAN DEC NOV OCT SEP AUG JUL CLS 180 150 120 90 60 30 CLS CLS CLS 30 CLS CLS CLS CLS CLS CLS CLS CHASE BANK USA, Address Identification number: BLANK Stauts: Closed. $1,289 past due as of Dec 2010 Date Opend: 10/2001 Last Reported: 12/2010 Original Amount: $4,422 Comment: Purchased by another lender. -RealMcKoy
  9. Hello Everyone, I have been lurking on this website for a little while now, searching for suggestions on how people can build onto their credit with a decent foundation already established. I finally decided to sign up and give all of my details so that I can get a more personalized response from the incredibly helpful people of this forum. My Slim Credit History Was able to open a college checking account through Wells Fargo at the age of 16 As soon as I turned 18 I went to WF and applied for a Wells Fargo CashBack College Credit Card. I was approved with a CL of $750 Age 21: CL is now $2800 No late payments & Utilization ranges from 0-10% Took out a student loan for $3000 about 5 months ago, but if everything goes as planned, I will be a full time student for the next 4 years, so I don't have to worry about paying that any time soon. Unless my financial situation changes (by that, I mean win the lottery) I will continue to take out student loans to help pay for my next four years of school. Since I don't have my FICO scores, I took the quiz at myfico to estimate a range for my credit score. it was 695-735. CK has my TU at 722. (And, I know, I know, these are not accurate but it's all I have.) The only negative that is on my score is my AAOA. My debit card says Member since '08/ Credit Card says Member since '11 Credit Card gets PIF every month. I try to wait until a day or two before the due date so that it can report a small balance. Never had a late payment. No "Baddies" as you guys would say. Directv account in my name for over a year. Never had a late payment. Pretty much a blank canvass that needs a Picasso More Information My parents let me use my credit card to pay all of their bills (Mortgage, Car Note, uitl., etc.) so that I can cash in on my rewards. I also plan on paying my tuition in full on my credit cards in the future, so all together, it should be about $30-40000 going through my card per year. I am unemployed I had to cancel both my debit and credit cards last year because wallet was stolen. I got new ones though, and my debit card says Member since '08/ Credit Card says Member since '11, so I don't know if this cancellation hurt my AAOA. I don't travel much. I haven't been on a plane since I was 4 years old. Drive out of town a lot with my family though. Whew! Now that I have all of that out of the way, I really need some insight on how to build on this. I don't really have an interest in opening any new bank accounts as WF has been good to me and it is the most convenient bank here in Iowa. But I would like to add some credit cards within the next few months and then "garden" my account (I believe that's the appropriate term ). I would like to hold onto these new cards and not apply for new ones until I graduate from college in 4 years, if not longer. Since I plan on holding onto them for what I feel like would be a long time, I would like a nice variety that I can rotate when I get bored after the first few years. What I Would Like in a Card I know this is silly but, for one of the cards, I would like it to have a little prestige. I got mail from AMEX inviting me to apply for the Premier Rewards Gold and the Cap1 Platinum, but I think that the Chase Sapphire Preferred would be a better fit, because like I said above, I will be running $30-40000 through this card a year, and I don't want to be subject to AMEX Financial Reviews, as I would most likely fail because I am unemployed and the money that is going through the card will come from my parents and financial aid. I'm not really picky about the other cards, my only requirement is that they be rewards cards, with atleast 1% cashback on every purchase or 1 point for every dollar spent, and have no annual fee, as I am only willing to pay the AF on my prestige card (only because the rewards I earn throughout the year should cover it! LOL) Welp! That is all the information I have. I can't wait to see your suggestions on what would help build my credit, as well as the cards I should add to my pocketbook, prestige or otherwise. Thank you all in advance for reading my long post! -LadiiSota
  10. Do airline miles cards (e.g. Capital One) allow you to combine miles with existing miles you have through an airline?
  11. I filed ch7 in 10/05 and was discharged in 1/06. Everything was going great and then I had several issues (job loss, family issues, etc.). I have been in debt for a few years now and I have been waiting for the day I could actually file ch7 again because I felt that was the only way out of this mess (which I was able to in 10/13). So you might ask, what is the problem? The problem is me and I ask for your assistance in helping me answer, should I file bk7 again? I have actually retained a lawyer and paid my partial retainer fee (which I will lose if I don't file but I still have the balance that is due on at my meeting on 5/23 to sign the paperwork and get started). I know I keep going back and forth with this decision but it it a hard decision. I really want to be bk FREE. Right now, I have the following accounts to deal with and I live in NV. PR's (2) Chapter bk - due to fall off 9/2015...finally! 2009 Tax Lien - received certificate of release and I sent a letter to IRS on 5/7/14 to remove it - pending Collections (16 - all unpaid and the 1st 4 collections were actually were payday loan...ugh!) CCCU $2416 - due to fall off 6/2016 NFCU Visa $5226 - due to fall off 7/2016 NFCU MC $5173 - due to fall off 7/2016 NFCU MC (Joint) $7786 - due to fall off 7/2016 (possible duplicate from the Midland Collection above)NFCU LOC $0 - due to fall off 8/2016 Merrick Bank $2007 - due to fall off 11/2016 Barclays $2205 - due to fall off 12/2016 CreditOne Bank $0 - due to fall of 12/2016 Capital One $2497 - due to fall off 1/2017 NFCU car loan $0 - due to fall off 10/2017 NFCU truck loan $0 - due to fall off 12/2017 First Premier $918 - due to fall off 11/2018 (this account has been rehabbed with a $900 CL) Satisfactory Accounts (14) Applied Bank - closed by consumer Aspire - closed by consumer Barclays - closed by consumer (merged my Carnival with USAir yet the end result was a charge off above) CreditOne - card lost or stolen (yet the end result was a chargeoff above) Crown Jewelers - closed GM Financial - closed (4 accounts like this) HSBC Bank - account closed by consumer (too bad Cap1 charged off above since they bought them) Kay Jewelers - inactive account closed NFCU LOC - closed by credit grantor Sallie Mae - closed Target - account closed by consumer Good news: I put in a dispute for 1 medical bill and it fell off as well as 3 other baddies I did not dispute and I was removed from a AU Chase account that was a baddie as well. That's 5 accounts gone so far. Bad news: In addition, I have a current title loan for about $1400 I need to finish paying off (it's on a old 2001 car that barely runs) as well as the last of my student loans which are about $1200. I could use the rest of the year to pay these 2 accounts off as soon as possible. I keep hearing how easy Enhanced Recovery is to work with on the DV but what about the other collections. I have been a member of this board since 2006 (I believe) and I rebuilt my credit after the last bk but this is somewhat harder but I am up for the challenge. I just need a little help to get me going in the right direction. Is there help for me? Please forgive the long post. Goal: Rebuild credit (750+) and buy a home in 3 years (need to start saving immediately).
  12. I'm working on my husband's credit. A lot of medical stuff has fallen off, thanks to Why Chat, but he still has few negative things going on that I'm working on right now, so they are dwindling down in number. Right now we are waiting for a response from the CRAs about some debt from AFNI (not sure what it is or where it's from) that is beyond the SOL. Would it be better to wait to try to get a secure credit card after all the bad stuff comes off first, or do we try for one earlier? I guess my questions right now is more about order in which I tackle the rest of the stuff on his report. We have bankruptcy, scheduled to fall off in 2017. He has a paid judgement. He has a few shady things from Verizon, T-Mobile and Comcast. T-mobile and comcast are particularly tricky and underhanded. At one point, he called t-mobile, who said he had a credit with them (like he paid them too much on something and they owed him money) while at the same time sending him to a CA for him owing them money on something? Comcast is all around dirty and we just switched to Dish Network because of their foolishness. (there is convoluted history behind that as well...) He has some really good history building up on his credit with Aaron's rent-to-own furniture. I was vehemently against him going to Aaron's for many many reasons, but I must say that he has been doing extremely well with keeping up the payments (I know, i know, we are paying waaaaay more than if we were to buy stuff outright, but it's good when you are in a bind and don't have enough cash to fork out to buy something outright, your credit is in the toilet, but you do have a little and can make regular payments and plan to keep the item forever, regardless of what happens to it...we only get things we absolutely need when we are in a total bind with no other choice, never EVER anything frivolous and we've paid off and still have a few things from them from the past couple years.) But anyway, he has been paying them regularly and I'm still learning about scores and stuff, but it is one thing on his credit that is "green" instead of red, and has been consistently green for the past couple of years. After I am done tackling this thing from AFNI that is beyond SOL, (the rest are more recent) what is next? Do I continue to keep going to the CRA initially before going to the CA? Will the CRAs start to get suspicions if every couple of months they are receiving another dispute letter from us about something else? Which, by the way, is there are certain amount of time that it's best to wait before sending in a dispute letter to the CRA for the next item? Do I go to the CA first for any of this stuff? Can I "double up" on anything, as in, request/wait for validation from the CRAs on the AFNI that is beyond SOL while at the same time sending a letter of directly to one of the other CAs over, say, the T-Mobile stuff? When, in all of this, does the secured credit card and working on rebuilding start to fit in? Also, I probably need to maybe see about the judgement lastly, right? I think we could probably wait out the bankruptcy. We have nothing pressing right now that we NEEEEED to get our credit right for, but it's time for us to grow up. Trying to get my list of priorities in order. Thanks in advance! Sorry for the book of a post.

  14. I looked at my credit report last week after getting an email saying I had a new collections. It said that the collection was for CAPIO for 59 dollars. I have never talked to this company before nor have had a bill for 59 bucks. I googled CAPIO and found capiopartners.com.. I called them and talked to one person that said i was NO WHERE is the computer. So that got me angry, he said he was going to tranfer me to "upper management".. I got a voicemail. I left a voicemail and three days later i keep my phone at 6 pm to see a voicemail from this company.. So i call back and of course, no answer. I have tryied to get back in contact with this upper mangaement butnothing! Has anyone heard of this CAPIO??? What should I do??
  15. In the last couple of months, situations have presented themselves, resulting in having to move back home to care for my parents. It was a thought I didn't hesitated on, being, they are the most amazing mother and father any child would be blessed with, I'm so thankful it was me. For 18 years, they took care of me, so taking care of them will come with the greatest joy, patience and ease. Presently, I reside in another city and moving home must be immediate. Fortunately, the house next door to my parents, will be available, which belonged to my grandparents. The people living in the house, we're all close with and they've agreed not to put the house on the market, allowing me to have first grabs. Here's my fear, my credit isn't the best, yet I don't have any bankruptcies, credit cards, loan defaults, etc. By choice, I've never owned a credit card, my thing is, if I can't pay cash, I don't need it. I've never been late paying my car note or insurance, the 2 things on there, I've paid, each month and timely. The issues with my credit are other people. When my grown child was a very young child, the judge ordered her father to pay all her medical bills. Being I was the parent that took her to all her doctor visits, the bill was put in my name, because the doctor's offices wouldn't honor judges' orders, they say the responsible party is the parent that brings her. When he refused to pay, I took him back to court, he was held in contempt , but he didn't care and didn't pay any of the bills, so they are still on my credit. I'm afraid that's going to hinder me from buying this home and it's imperative I get that house, so I can get to my parents right away. Does anyone have stories of likeness or any suggestions? All will be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
  16. Maybe someone reading this will think twice about helping a family/friend build credit... I've been repairing & building my credit for a few months. Still such a newbie though I've been reading & reading & reading this site (and I'll admit maybe one other...) and asking questions as I go along. Learning slowly. My younger sister and I are very close and she might be the only one who knows how Chocolate Goodness my credit is/was. (Well, except for all of you... but you don't know me, so it's fine!) After confessing to her about all my new cards, and higher credit score she asked me to help her and her husband. We pulled reports and at age 24 she has basically NO credit. She has one small loan that is paid off with 2 lates and a collection from a cell phone bill. Nothing else. She told me she hates credit cards, hates banks, hates contracts and is happy with cash only. BUT... wants to build credit since she's recently married and they are talking about a house in a few years. Her DH has two auto loans (one paid) and a card that is at 101% util with a $600 limit. No baddies, but obviously high utilization issues. His AAOA is about 1.5 years. One thing I learned was how important it is to build early to allow age to grow. I'm an advocate of a thick file nowadays. So, I offered to help her with some shopping cart tricks and explained to him about utilzation. I shared this website with them. Showed how to read a credit report. Talked about addressing the late payments and layed out a plan to tackle the collection. I talked and talked and talked to her about the IMPORTANCE of NOT using the card except for a little cheap item and then PAY IT OFF! I stressed how I messed up by being young and dumb and charging things I didn't need and couldn't afford and how 6 years later it's still hurting me and how much work it's taking to try to fix it. I told them how embarrasing it was to have my first car repo'd. How depressed I was after that happened and how horrible of a person it made me feel. Etc, etc, etc. Things I wish my mom and dad would have taught us. So, she got a fingerhut card and he got a Victorias Secret. They weren't approved or offered anything else we tried and I didn't want to risk lots of inqs for builder cards. I don't want them starting out with high fee cards like I did (Orchard bank) just to close them a few years later. They don't have the money for a secured card right now, but they both are planning on obtaining one by summer. We laid out a 3 year plan. Worked the plan on paper together. They understood the concept & reasons why. This was about 3 months ago. Today I get a call from my sister. She's maxed out her (well, his) Vsecret card and fingerhut and missed both payments this month. Wonders if I can help them get a payday loan to pay it off. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I made her life worse. I feel guilty. I knew how she was with money and was hoping her recent marriage would have helped. I don't know him as well, but seems to be thriftier. I was wrong. She wasn't ready for plastic and needs to learn her lesson like I did. It sucks. I wanted to save her the headache. I guess the only saving grace is she's still young and when she's ready she'll have someone who can tell here where to go to LEARN IT ON HER OWN! BTW sis... if you are on this site trying to read up on your own, congrats! Keep reading. It's confusing at first. Advice I wish I would have taken... don't even look at posts that have B* in the title until you have extra money to throw around and a clean report. Don't go on a wild app spree, it's easier to stick with just a few (like 3) cards and let them grow. And stop charging things you don't need!
  17. What is a good secured credit card to apply for to help rebuild credit.
  18. Hello: I have never had a credit card before, paying everything with cash via debit card. I would like to build my credit and have been told a credit card is a fairly good way to do this. So I got a Quicksilver Capital One 1.5% moneyback card. My current credit score is 737 according to CreditKarma. I have a reservoir of debit card cash that is significantly larger than the $2000 Credit Line of the new card. I have few bills and those are payed for automatically, drawing from the debit card cash. I have been told to basically, "go buy gas with the credit card, then pay it off." But I was hoping that someone could quantify exactly what that means on a step by step basis. If I buy gas that's $50 out of $2000, leaving me with $1950 credit limit to spare. Would it be better to spend more than $50? How much more? And what exactly does "pay it off" mean? Pay off the interest? Or the entire thing, leaving me with a limit of $2000? What exactly do the credit card companies want to see? More expenditures? Fewer expenditures? Do they want to earn some interest for themselves? Please keep in mind that I am pretty much using this card without duress or need, I'm only using it as a method of building credit, and there's is no danger of me getting carried away or me forgetting a payment. So what do I do with this thing? Thanks very much
  19. In April of 2013 I paid off my auto loan in full. In January 2014 I requested my credit report by mail. When I received my Equifax report, everything seemed to be in order. However, from May 2013 to December 2013 it has my loan listed as "No Data Available". Does this mean that they assume that I still have the loan? Shouldn't it had stopped at April or something? I tried asking this question to people online but everyone misunderstands me. They think that I'm asking why the loan is on my report if it's been paid. That is NOT what I'm asking. I get that things stay on your report for X amount of years. What I'm asking about are those months AFTER I had paid off my loan. The months in which I had no bills or payments because it had already been paid in full.

  23. I'm go to finally imcorperate an I would like to know how to back date my corporation, In looking to back date it about 2yr. Could anyone offer any advice.
  24. HI all! I am looking at my Experian report which is my worst report and for Midland there are two from Midland that say almost nothing...and I also have The CBE Group who are also reporting for one of the Midland accounts... For negatives on Experian I have 5, these 3 and two more one from LVNV that I just disputed obsolete and hopefully that one will drop off. After I get the answer back for that dispute, I wanted to maybe dispute the 2 Midlands? I know that my report shows "customer disputes..." but this had to have been last year when I disputed this.
