Does anyone know how to dispute an AES Consolidated SL? I originally borrowed about 30K. It went into default but I consolidated with AES years ago and am paying regularly. However, the balance is 75K. I do not see on my fico where the loan says it defaulted. It shows each loan amount including the loan consolidation. I understand paying finance charges if you default but to triple my loan amount is BS. Does anyone have any advice? Can I dispute? Thanks.

My credit is perfect - but I resently was contacted out of nowhere by AES for a loan. Date dispursed is 19 Dec. 2001. Since then I have built perfect credit; and now I'm getting a bill for over $54,000 (payoff amount) or promissory note for over $91,000. What are my rights for a loan that has not appeared on anything for over 10 years??

So I have finally started taking the steps to repair my credit from my younger years of irresponsibility. One nagging problem on my credit report is a old Private Student loan that I had that has been in default for almost 1 1/2 yrs now. They have not garnished any wages or taken legal action as of yet, or even requisitioned my tax return last year. When I spoke with them early Jan 2012 they were completely uncooperative and refused to accept any terms except the ones they were setting forth. The original loan was through AES and is now with a CA whom I spoke with. They basically told me that if I didn't comply to their terms they would get their money anyways since it's a federally backed loan, and they could garnish wages and/or hold my tax returns. Original loan was for 13000, and now is somewhere in the range of 22000 after all their fees. They literally told me; they would put me down down as a refusal to pay since I couldn't afford their terms. One last piece of information, I am still in school, although this loan originated almost 4 yrs ago, I am in my final year of classes. Aren't I entitled to still be in forbearance? Are Private student loans allowed to be rehabilitated? What options do I have to get this loan back in good standing? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance!

We received a Score Watch Alert this morning from My Fico saying my Equifax score dropped 20 points. She has been paying Edfinancial via auto-pay since 2006 with zero lates on this loan or anywhere else. Edfinancial sold this loan to AES this month. When Edfinancial reported the loan had been sold/transferred, it triggered a Score Watch Alert with a 20 point drop from 703 to 683. Reason: Balance on revolving account may be too high. Aren't student loans installment loans?? I am stumped. How is this humanly possible??? She has done nothing wrong. The AES trade line has not reported yet. Has this happened to anyone else??

Any suggestions on this? I'm trying to refinance my house and I have two big issues with my student loans. 1) they are dragging my scores down very low and 2) the balances are very high since I had them deferred for many years while the interest grew on the accounts. So the amount shows $70K owed but the loan is for $40K debt to credit ratio is 183% on this account (depressing). I've got 2 student loans with AES that have several (9-10) 60 / 90 /120 + lates over the last 3 years. I'm currently in good standing (12 months) and have never defaulted. They won't delete any of the previous lates but the good news is that it's currently showing "pays as agreed". These line items continue to drag my scores down. (AES reports to Equifax and Transunion on my reports). any insight into what more I can do?
