  1. What good is a board where no one reads? You didn't even have to use the search function. On October 9th, the following thread was posted, and folks responded: http://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=364452 It was still on the front page yesterday October 10, and yet you still felt it necessary to write your own question -- and then BUMPED IT like 7 hours later -- when you didn't get a personal response, and now write a second thread asking the same question while throwing a hissy fit that no one gave your thread the attention you craved...........instead of reading and absorbing the information others had thoughtfully provided within 24 hours of you hitting submit the first time. That's bogus, man. Just be patient. If you honestly can't find the answer to something because the search parameters are hard to get just right, that's cool...... but wow, trying to condemn the board for not answering you, when you put forth NO effort to find the answer yourself, is bogus. What line of business are you in, again? Let me be very clear to you: your posts are moderated for a reason.Your response is out of line, period, end of discussion. If you have a problem with a post report it. Do NOT respond like this again. I was moderated because I seconded another poster here back in July, who had accused another member here of engaging in outright fraud instead of credit cleaning -- a poster who made the fatal mistake of bringing in FatWallet's dis of Creditboards for attempting to help that person (FWF was right, by the way) then compounded it with a racial dis against white women (the member was wrong to use the racial dis). My bigger mistake was to start posting supporting links to the member commiting fraud's threads across several sub-boards here. Again, as I stated in July, you may go ahead and ban me outright. I realize there's a very good chance this particular response is not going to see the light of day; or if you're feeling particularly froggy/generous/smirky you'll post it. Fact is I can pull up several examples of folks who have said 'search' and not been castigated. And of course, there's always the example of GEORGE getting violently rude with other posters; and the mods here don't say a word -- a rudeness which goes back years, and not just on this board. But then, I understand how the grandfather clause works, having been on the 'right' side of it elsewhere. Dupl68 screwed up, LKH. I have often been among those who say 'be kind to newbies' and 'be kind to those who may have tried to search but couldn't find specific information'. Dupl68 didn't bother, and then pulled a hissy board towards the board in his title; and that's why in Dupl68's case I'm going to side with the many old-timers here who would have said 'Search'. If I don't get a chance to snap a 'Search' like oldtimers here, then, again -- ban me and my IP outright. I apologized once, and meant it. I don't think I have anything to apologize about this time, and won't say what I don't mean.
  2. Hmm. Ok. I'm gonna do an experiment. Like I said, I've only gone the Enterprise route. The following text is the cleaned up version of the raw exchanges typed during calls I've made this evening: ENTERPRISE (5:12pm MST, 10.11.08): online: no mention Me: "is there a difference between using a debit card or a credit card to reserve a rental? Roshanda, CSR: "some locations don't accept debit cards, where are you located? (she checks) it looks like they will accept debit cards as long as you're local, there is a $250 deposit and 20 % consignment pick up, proof of residency and two credit references" Me: "Will this appear on my credit report?" Roshanda: "No, Ma'am" Me: "Do you pull credit reports?" Roshanda: "No, Ma'am" Me: "I'm hearing two different things regarding reserving with a credit card versus a debit card, is your supervisor available?" Roshanda: "I don't have one but I can transfer you to the help desk... we don't pull a credit report (Roshanda repeats what the location will ask for if one reserves with a debit card) Who told you that we pull a credit report? Did someone from Enterprise tell you that?" Me: "I'm hearing two different things, yes pls transfer me to the help desk" Keenan: (didn't identify himself or his dept when he picked up the line -- what's going on with customer service?) Me: "Does Enterprise pull a credit report if I'm reserving by a vehicle with a debit card?" Keenan: "No all you're gonna have to do is have the credit card" Me: "I'm not using a credit card, it's a debit card" Keenan: "Usually with debit cards depending on what branch and what reason they're gonna have different policies but they're not gonna do a bank account report" Me: "I'm not asking about a bank report, I'm asking if Enterprise will check my credit report, like Experian, Transunion or Equifax, if Enterprise pulls a hard or a soft?" Keenan: "No no ma am they're just gonna ask you for a debit card, there's a couple criteria that needs to be met... usually they want recent utility bill with a zero balance and usually a pay check stub" Me: "And you're absolutely sure Enterprise doesn't pull a credit report" Keenan: "I've never heard of that happeing ma am" Me: Thank you for your time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- BUDGET: online: FAQ: Paying For My Rental Using Credit and Debit Cards for Deposits and Payments -- no mention of credit report being pulled; lots of mention of holds ME: Is there a difference between using a credit card and a debit card to reserve a vehicle? FRANK: yes maam for a debit card must be at least 25 years old they will do a credit check, and on major credit card minimum deposit 200, on debit card.. where are you located ma am? ME: that's ok I'm more worried about the credit check; is credit check for both credit card and debit card? FRANK: just for debit card they will perforrm credit check and if you have a bad credit history there is a chance they won't rent to you ME: do you check Experian, Transunion or Equifax? FRANKK: i dont know ma am that s on the counter ma am they do it ME: so it's up to the counter to decide which credit reporting agency to use? FRANK: yes ma'am ME: thank you for your time -------------------------------------------------------------------------- HERTZ - online: FAQ: Reserving Using Debit Cards -- has a link to For Credit Check Info When Using a Credit Card ... they explicitly state they use Equifax. ME: Is there a difference between using a credit card and a debit card to reserve a vehicle? SUSAN: um a debit uh credit card is accepted everywhere a debit card is subject to credit approval ME: Which credit reporting agencies do you use? SUSAN: um let me think um it may be equifax we dont we don tactually see the customers credit report it just comes back with a yes or no ME: Is it possible to ask for a reconsideration if one gets a 'no'? SUSAN: Not for 24 hours ME: Not even when paying with cash? SUSAN: well the credit or debit card would be for the security of the rental so they would need to know that at the beginning of the rental but you can use cash to pay at the end of the rental ME: Thank you for your time. SUSAN: (she thanked me for choosing Hertz) ------------------------------------------------------ DOLLAR - Online Dollar Car Rental Policies: Can I use My Debit Card? .. they explicitly state they will perform a credit check, then give a link to their General Policies page which explicitly states they check Equifax: ME: I choose not to call given experience with both Budget and Hertz regarding their FAQ pages and their representatives, though I'm not sure why the Budget rep said that it's up to the counter regarding which credit reporting agency will be pulled. And why Enterprise says they don't pull credit reports, though otherwise their debit card policy is like everyone else's. ---------------------------------- UGLY DUCKLING CAR RENTAL/RENT-A-WRECK CAR RENTAL - online: no FAQ, touts itself a little too much, big option for franchise information, 1st Call to national number: "your call did not go through pls try your call again" (wtf?) 2nd Call: "our office is now closed" (forget it) Online again, choosing option for 'Ready to Rent? Step 1'... it gives me a list of several Rent A Wrecks in my state and surrounding states, apparently each location's web page is different; I click on the first option for my state and get a page which gives a list of vehicles, and an option to send an email to inquire about a vehicle's availability; but nothing in the way of policy. My rentawreck's email address, by the way, doesn't have a domain of rent a wreck or ugly duckling........... it's comcast.net. The one in Kansas is wbsnet.org; and Utah doesn't even bother to give as much details as either New Mexico or Kansas, it's just a single page with a generic car, the address, the phone number and a back button! Does anyone have experience with Rent A Wreck and whether they pull an actual credit report, or if it's all in-house? ============================== So that's my experience this evening. As I said, I use Enterprise and was never told about a credit pull in all the times I rented from them. Maybe they are different. I've certainly never seen an inquiry from Enterprise on my credit reports, but that doesn't mean anything and I may need to go through my older credit reports again... particularly since I only really pay attention to hard pulls, not soft pulls. Why would Enterprise be different?

  4. Where do you rent your cars? I've never seen anything like that -- at least, I didn't see anything like that when I was renting cars back in 2005 and 2006. Then again, I go the Enterprise rental route. I hope it has changed so that such signs are in big block print everywhere. It should also be in big block print when reserving online or (especially) by phone, though. As for 'one hard in two years'......... that doesn't help when you rent cars more than once a year (speaking as someone who knew a person who rented every weekend back in the 80s and 90s).
  5. the problem is that no one is informed that a hard pull will be done.... by using a debit card. if one has to be done, it should be done no matter what the type of payment is to reserve the vehicle. they could use a soft pull, there is no reason to initiate a hard pull for a rental.
  6. what other illegal stuff is this 'friend' into, to involve a 14 year old child in fraud? that's disgusting.
  7. I think it's strange that nothing is reporting for either card. This can't be normal, can it?
  8. aren't fees where the revenue is? what do they care, if enough people are conditioned to accept? like folks getting excited about sub-$3 gas in a speculator driven world. i do believe banks need to be upfront about what actions one can and cannot take, as a consumer.
  9. So basically, AmEx is the Fist of an Angry God (or Bleeding Heart of a Generous God) and God does what God wants regardless of the actions of believers to make God ignore them/mollify God into the believer's favor? Yeah. And that's what worries me. That, and computers having precedence over human beings. I don't like feeling I have no control, particularly when trying to do everything 'right'.
  10. I haven't bothered to attempt today. I've also cancelled my True Credit. I'm going to wait this out until it's straightened out.
  11. I'm sorry to finally hear/read this.
  12. there's gotta be more to it, with some people using only a couple services (or ONE service) and getting bumps.......... and other people using multiple services and not getting anything. i've read some of the techniques beyond just using a monitoring service; they make sense. using only one service and doing nothing else but pulling every day or every other day, i don't know.
  13. please hire the attorney. these gyms are notorious.
  14. since is available credit the same as DEBT???? if one can't handle it, or has to learn to handle it, it might as well be.
  15. a) Why waste precious CRA inquiries on business gas and business store cards? The Larry Rule, appended for businesses. It's a business, let the business bear the risks and rewards; not personal credit where possible.
