  1. Sorry I fell off the face of the earth there. I sent a debt validation letter about 6 months ago and the collections agency came back with the rental lease and itemization (IIRC). They've been reporting each month ever since. The open date is 4/26/2012, so way past the SOL to collect in North Carolina (the state I live and where the debt occurred). I'll try an obsolete letter in a month or so. I need to finance my car this summer, so I need it gone.
  2. I also just realized that I put the wrong date. I bought my house March 1, 2012. I apparently need more coffee before posting in the morning. Jeez!
  3. Just about $1100. And I just realized this is in the wrong forum. :/
  4. I had to break a lease when I bought my house in 2016. I think in NC they have 3 years to collect rental debts. If this is true, is there a place where I can find a sample letter to tweak to get it removed from my report? The actual leasing company no longer exists, by the way,
  5. Excellent. I'll have a look for the SOL letter and send that. Thank you!
  6. I have a collections for a broken lease. It's in North Carolina and was not entered into "under seal". (As a notary, I'm sure that's what under seal means) The CA is FCO. The statute of limitations is 3 years in NC for Express or implied contract, not under seal. My calculations have this debt at 5 years and 4 months old. I've done a debt validation on it because the company that owned the property I rented changed names and went out of business. The CA came back with my entire rental agreement and the move out checklist. So I sent a pay for delete at 25% of the debt value. They countered with 50% and report as settled as long as it's paid by 8/31/17. I never acknowledged the debt. It has been so long that I don't remember the next step in this process. HELP!
  7. I'm in NC also, but this is in Texas. I will have her file a complaint with the bar. Thank you!!
  8. Upon further investigation, it is from an "ambulance chaser" type attorney. It has "YOU ARE BEING SUED" and the case number on it. It was delivered to my friends grandparents house who were subsequently questioning my friend. It's not a debt collector, or a creditor. Does it still fall under the FDCPA?
  9. Lol, no. But, he's just been around for a long time. He's great!
  10. Holy chocolate. marvBear is still around!!
  11. I think it's Midland Funding, LLC. I'm having her send a dv1 letter. And she called, but I told her to stop calling. She understands. I wish I could figure out how to post a photo while mobile.
  12. A friend of mine received a postcard telling her that court documents have been filed. It's clearly in violation of the fdcpa, but, how would she address it?
  13. Are you sure? I'm looking at history on the closed/consolidated student loan from May of 2008. The history from there is positive, but there's some late pays in 2009 (I know that's not 7 years yet)
  14. Is there a way to remove student loans that were consolidated? I have about 10 loans that are showing closed (some with late pays) that I would like to remove since it's factoring into my open debt. Its been a long time since I've had to remove anything from my report, but since my CH7 is due to fall off next month, I'd like to get a jump start. Thanks!
  15. Hey everyone! It's been many years since I've been active here, and I need your help for my BFF.. Several years ago, she took out online payday loans. Come to find out, they are illegal in North Carolina. She has paid them in full. She has a letter stating that the loan was paid in full from the company she took out the loan from. She's been getting phone calls from Marshall Green & Associates to her job stating that she "needs to call back due to the check fraud she's been committing." (she's never had a check book) She called back and asked them to verify the debt. They could verify details about her, and her bank account (which has been closed), but refused to provide a mailing address or information about the actual debt, stating that it's been sold so many times, that there's no way to trace it back. (which is complete bull, imo) The BBB has a physical address for them but it states that the mail has been returned. I'm trying to help her send a CMRRR C&D/verify letter, but they've only provided a phone number and email. Can any of you help us out? I don't even know if they can legally collect here in North Carolina. http://www.bbb.org/upstate-new-york/Business-Reviews/collection-agencies/marshall-greene-associates-inc-in-buffalo-ny-144003812/complaints/ Thanks everyone!
  16. First premier reports my closed, included in bankruptcy account as currently late. They refuse to change it. I've tried everything. It's going to drop off my report this year (if it hasnt already) so it wasn't a big deal to me. My suggestion is to CYA and sue them for their incorrect reporting. YMMV, though. I'm not a lawyer, nor have I ever been to small claims. I just think that this is the only way to get them to report correctly.
  17. Erica

    I've graduated!

Exactly. I'd rather have it closed than try to remember to call and have the AF reversed. I'm on to bigger and batter things, which feels great! TBH, I never thought I'd get here. But here I am!
  18. After recent success with HSBC and WaMu platinum approvals (with no AF!!!) I decided to close my Orchard card. It was my oldest card, and it had the lowest limit. At $400 with a 17.65%APR, I decided that it was too much and too little, so, bye Orchard. They tried EVERYTHING to get me to keep it. Offered $500 increase effective immediately, and the refund of a late fee from October ($30). (I forgot that the bill was due until three days before the due date. My bank couldn't pay it electronically, so it got there one day late.) I told them that I hadn't used the card since then (when I paid it off) and had no use for it, since all of my other cards had better limits and no annual fee. Felt so good to shred that card.
  19. I started my journey in April 2000, with creditnet. I got to where I could breathe financially with the help of someone special to me, and the users with the valuable information out there. I was a sponge that needed to absorb information. It all didn't last, though, and in 2005 I filed for Chapter 7, and was discharged in February 2006. With what I learned, and responsible use of my credit, I now have just over $6K in available credit, and with my new WaMu Platinum Visa, I get my PFico. I was STUNNED to see it at 718. I'm not sure how accurate it is to the real FICO, but it's close enough for me. I'm actually getting offers for cards with no annual fee, and 0% intro APR's. It feels good to know that I can pay my bills, have a budget, and I can have a savings. I have all of you at Creditboards, and creditnet to thank for that. Without the valuable information contained here on this forum, and your words of wisdom and experience, I would still be in the hands of First Premiere and CCB. All I have left of my subprime existence is a $400 CL Orchard card that was opened within days of my discharge. It's time to see it go.
  20. I paid a medical bill by credit card today, mailed it off. When I got home, I got a letter from a collection agency regarding this same medical bill. What are the chances that the hospital didn't send it to the CRA's yet, and I can just tell the CA that I paid the OC?
  21. Bwwaaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha *breath* ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Renaldo! He's crazy!
  22. As far as I know, you don't need credentials. My bf's brother just started teaching English to students in Korea. He's got a bachelor's degree only. You'd probably need some sort of work visa, and France is one of those countries where you don't have to pay for health insurance (which is a requirement here in the University I work for). I don't know for sure, but we just hired a teacher from London, she needed a work visa and health insurance. The other part about credentials, I'm not sure again, only telling you what I know. Have you thought about looking around online at french schools? Maybe they have the requirements on their websites.....
  23. I'm a cowboys fan. been here the whole time. I just don't smack talk that much.
