  1. Thanks! I can't wait to get them. I'm still a little curious about what my limit will be with Discover It. I just find it odd that they wouldn't do like Capital One and just tell me what my limit was when they approved me. I hope that doesn't mean it's a low limit ($300 or $500). I feel like a kid waiting on Christmas day to arrive.
  2. This site is such a wealth of information. I've been trying to slowly re-build my credit for a few years now, but was afraid to apply for any other credit cards other than the secured card I got through my credit union. That has helped me get my scores to where they are today (EQ-627; TU-598; EX-655). After stumbling across this particular forum, I decided to check out a couple of the pre-selector sites (Discover and Capital One). After a lot of hesitation I decided to take the plunge and apply and I got approved for both! I got approved for the Discover It card and Capital One Quicksilver card, to be specific. Discover's online approval wouldn't tell me what my credit limit is (they are sending that info in the mail with the card), but Capital One gave me a $1,000 limit. Here is the kicker. When my credit sank several years ago, Capital One was one of the cards that "went down with the ship", so I was really scared that they wouldn't give me another one. In addition to that, I have done the "opt-out" thing with all 3 credit bureaus, so I was also afraid that would work against me. Obviously I was wrong. I'm excited to see how my scores will improve now that I've got 2 major cards that will report to all 3 credit bureaus (my credit union secured card only reports to EQ & EX. Long story). Good credit, here I come! LOL!

  4. Hello, Jayeggscredit. I just had to shoot you a quick note to say thank you for this post regarding Asset Acceptance. After reading this, I followed the same steps you did (complaints with the BBB and FTC) and got the same response from them, and it happened even more quickly! Literally, 2 days after I filed the complaint with the BBB, I got the same response you did. It just goes to show you that if you're willing to do the leg work and stay persistent in dealing with these CA's and JDB's, you can win.
  5. Hello, CB. I have a question about how to handle what appears to be erroneous reporting. Here is the situation: I filed for ch. 13 BK and stayed in the plan from 4/2010 to 9/2011, after which time it was dismissed (not discharged), which means my creditors could start trying to collect again. One of the creditors that was included in the bankruptcy was Drivetime. They have sent me collection letters since the dismissal, which I expected. I pulled my credit and noticed that Drivetime is repeatedly reporting my account as 60 days late each month, rather than showing it correctly as 120 or 180 days past due. They are also not reflecting the period that they were included in the ch. 13 bankruptcy. I am still within the SOL in my state (Georgia) for this account. My question is this: Should I dispute how this is being reported to the CRA's and have it reported accurately (and hopefully keep it from tanking my scores any more than they already are), or should I just let sleeping dogs lie? Right now they've only sent me a few collection letters, but my concern is this may make them suddenly decide to come after me more aggressively. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
  6. Hi, and thanks for the response. Yes there is a balance reporting ($8,500+), it is more than 180 days late, and no it hasn't been reported as a charge off. I forgot to mention this before, but I also received a settlement letter in April from an attorney (J. Mark Heldenbrand) offering to settle this account for $2,700+. Maybe I'm not looking at this the right way, but it seems like I would be better off if this was reported more accurately.
  7. I suspect I know the answer to my questions, but I'll ask anyway and see of someone may know of a solution. Here's the situation. I was under a Chapter 13 BK from 2010-2011, but I chose to have it dismissed last September (I realized in hindsight that it was a bad idea for me). Drivetime has contacted me (via mail) about my account now that I'm not under the BK anymore. I voluntarily turned in my car to them right before I filed for the BK, and I included them in the BK. I have been monitoring my credit since the dismissal and I've noticed that, over the last several months, Drivetime has repeatedly posted "Dismissed", "Late Account" to my TransUnion credit report, under the "Derogatory Information" section of the report. I realize that my creditors, within the statute of limitations, can legally pursue me for what I owe now that I'm no longer under the BK. My question is, can Drivetime keep reporting the exact same entry on my credit report so that it keeps tanking my score? I would think that once they've reported it as "Dismissed", "Late Account" once, they wouldn't be able to do it again each month. I also noticed that, under the "Account History" section of my report (the part that shows specifically how late you are), they keep reporting it as 60 days late rather than showing the aging correctly. They also don't properly reflect the period prior to September 2011 when it was under the BK. Even that reflects it as being 60 days late. Am I right in thinking that this should be correctly reflected as 180 days late, considering they have been able to start reporting again since the dismissal in September of 2011? This is a little frustrating for me because I've been disputing some things that aren't correct in an attempt to boost my score as much as possible. Each time my score starts to go up this entry knocks it back down. I was hoping to try to buy a car by the end of the year, if I can boost my score up enough. Would it be worth my while to dispute how Drivetime is being reflected on my credit report?
  8. Hello. Has anyone here ever been under a chapter 13 bankruptcy and then dismissed it? How quickly (and viciously) did your creditors respond? Were they willing to work out a settlement plan with you? I just wanted to get a sample of peoples' experiences in doing this.
