  1. Also, check to see if your local library has something for seniors. I'm in a small community so our library is a big hub for activity (no senior center). They have a morning with friends hour, talks, dominoes, tai chi, etc. If your town/city has a senior center, many times they will have pick up for a ride to the center and a ride home.
  2. I agree with Radi8 and understand how hard that may be. My mom lives with me. She has SS only and her RA has progressed to a point where medical is getting expensive (most Rx are covered, a few are $$$). My mom contributes each month out of her SS check. She does this becuase it makes her feel like shes is contributing and not a burden (her words, not mine). She is very limited physically so can no longer help much around the house or drive my son to appointment/lessons/etc, so by giving me some $$ each month, she feels like a contributing member of the household, and that is fine with me. Couple things that you may know already but I"m going to throw them out there: 1 Are you claiming your mom as a dependent on your taxes? If not, you should. If her only income is SSI and she receives over 1/2 her support from you, then the IRS considers her your dependent. I currently claim my mom. There is a income threshold, so check with a CPA or your tax person. 2 If your mom meets the IRS criteria as a dependent, if you have a HSA you can pay for her medical expenses with those tax defered dollars. You can not pay for insurance premiums (like for supplemental insurance) but co-pays, RX, hospital bills - those can be paid out of the HSA. I found this out so upped my contribution to cover out of pocket expenses for her while still putting some away for me (and it lowers my taxable income). Do check out community resources, and also respite care for yourself. This is important. Many of the community services will still provide for her, even though she lives with you. For example, where I live there is a Aging in Place committee. One of the services is to drive seniors to appointments. I got her on that list, as most times I can take her but there is always that 1 time I can't. They also have a 'friendly visitor' program, which is to check in on seniors who live alone. When my son and I were in Dublin in December, I arranged for someone to call her to check in, see if she needed anything, etc. Even meals on wheels would deliver to her though she lives with me (I found this out at our local Senior fair. There were lots of services available). Good luck. I know from experience how hard this can be (and I grew up in a house with my mother, her mother and her mother, so I've seen the multigenerational caretaker situation my entire life. It's tough, but honestly, I'm so glad that I had my grandmother and great grandmother close, and now my son has my mom here)
  3. I know this thread is old but wanted to update. I have a c/o from Discover from 2013. They issued me a 1099-c December 2017. They have never made contact about the account nor have they attempted to sue me (the account was opened in 1988, last charge was probably last century. I'm sure they didn't sue me becuase they could not produce all the account records if I filed a motion of discovery). As I believe CV said in another thread, life didn't happen I made choices of what to pay attention to - this was one of those choices. I'm not pleased about it, but it was a conscious choice. I did try to negotiate with them after the fact (albeit not agressively - I tried twice) but they would not budge. I used Tweak's letter above and added in a few lines about the revised IRS guidelines (as of 2016 companies are no longer required to send a 1099-c after 36 months of non-payment). I sent letters express mail (2 day with tracking). All were received on 6/13. On 6/14 I received a CK notification of improved account. I checked to see Discover had been changed to no longer showing a balance. I know it's FAKO but my score moved +21 pts Yesterday near 5pm, I received a notification from Experian that my diputes was being investigated. 15 minutes later I received another notification that my dispute was resolved. When I looked at the results that balance was now 0. THis morning I logged into Experian and my FICO 8 score was +21 points. No word yet from Equifax. So in case anyone else is in the same situation, I figured I would add my data point to the pool.
  4. IIRC it was pretty quick. Maybe a week or so.
  5. I did. Charge off sold to midland. After it was satisfied, Midland deleted (their website has their deletion policy, or did at the time), then I send an email to the Credit One EO asking for it to be deleted. Their reply stated since they no longer had a financial interest they would delete and they did. CO was from 2013, I got them deleted 2017. As always, YMMV.
  6. Yup, Ireland not Ohio. I had that thought after posting. Found one for his b-day dinner. Reviews say the Sunday roasts are outstanding. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Hi all, Figured I’d tap the hive mind and see if anyone has any recommendations for restaurants in Dublin. No dietary restrictions and I fortunately have an adventurous eater in my soon to be 14 yo son (he ate everything and anything in Japan earlier this year). Been 17 years since I’ve been so my knowledge is quite dated. TIA Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I had a CO Credit One account that was sold. After I paid it sent them a letter asking for a goodwill delete (email to EO). They sent a letter saying since they no longer had financial interest they would delete (was gone off my reports before I received the letter in the mail). But as always, YMMV. 9. I’ve seen it. Go. Worth it. As much of a Tim Curry fan as I am, the guy who did Pennywise this time was outstanding. Better than Curry IMO. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I had a couple of charges I made in Japan earlier this year take two weeks to finally post. One from Bic Camera took 15 days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. In my former life I ran operations for a UHNW/HNW account aggregator. We had our own product as well as white labeled for various banks. I will say our security was very high. From employee screening to data security. I can't speak directly to Yodlee now, but we did look at them as a possible partner and security wasn't a concern. I've been out of that game for about 10 years so my personal knowledge is obviously dated. Though I will say at that time, the aggregators security was, IMO, better than some of the banks we received info from. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I would. The frontline CSRs don't strike me as well informed. The supervisor was helpful and seemed better informed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. No he's not freaking out over nothing. As I stated I had the exact same issue just happen. It's not the freeze. Yes my file was completely blank. The first CSR told me my file was blank because I didn't have any credit. When I finally got it into her head that yes, I've had credit for a long time and got her to transfer me to a supervisor, they were able to see the file with my history and repair it. 14. You have a split file or something along those lines. I just had the same issue with EQ. My file suddenly went blank. I can't determine what happened but same as you, history disappeared. I finally got through to EQ, send over my identity proof for them to fix. Took a couple days. I also filed a CFPB complaint as I was denied credit because of it. I have 28 years of history and I was denied for "insufficient credit experience". Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I just finished getting Convergent ( Eversource (CL&P) ) off my reports. I filed a complaint with the DPUC in CT. Eversource continued to bill me after I notified them to disconnect (3 months while the house sat vacant, they never sent the bill to Ocwen). Then I filed a BBB complaint on Convergent. Had never heard from them, and I felt they should not report with an open DPUC dispute. Filed the BBB complaint the night of 9/5, email from BBB on 9/6 saying then sent the complaint to Convergent. Under 3 hours later I get a response from Convergent that they're sending it back to Eversource and ceasing all activity and deleting. As of today it's gone. I'm still waiting to hear from the DPUC. But mine is 5 years old so I think Eversource may just give up now. i would start with Eversource. They should be able to give you a complete billing and payment history (that's how I knew they continued to bill me. $323 for one of the months the house sat empty with nothing running). Once you look at that, see if you have a DPUC complaint. That sure made Convergent fold like a cheap suit.
