  1. why close? I read that Barclays is less likely to approve a new card, if you're putting little or no spend on your current Barclay cards. You have a better chance of approval if you have no current Barclay cards. (I'm not worried about other effects of closing cards.) But I'm asking if this is really true about Barclays approvals.
  2. Anyone have any luck PCing the Arrival+ (to avoid AF)? What are the options? With SM gone, all the Barclay cards are useless to me. If I want to get Barclay cards in the future (only for signup bonus) what is the best strategy, given that I won't be putting any spend on my current cards (which apparently Barclays likes to see before giving more cards). So is my best strategy to just close all my Barclay cards, and wait a while before applying again?
  3. I had this problem when the CU checking account started having fees/min-balances/hoop-jumping, so I wanted to close all the CU accounts. But I realized the CU has my oldest credit card by far, so I wanted to keep that. The solution was simple. Close the checking account. Keep the savings account and credit card. The savings account has only $5 min-balance and no fees.
  4. Aargh, checked online app status, and saw it was denied. Scores around 790, about 4 Inq and 7 new cards in last 12 months. Only Barclay cards are 2 SMs. Should I recon? What do I say? (Never done this before.) I don't want to give up one of the Sallie Maes, though I'd go fo moving some limits over. Suggestions? Yes... Recon. Tell them you would like to be reconsidered for card approval. Offer to move some limits around if they don't offer first. Be prepared to answer A LOT of questions. What kind of questions? Income, employment, why you opened 7 new accounts in the last 12
  5. I get 5% cash back at Walmart with the Sallie Mae card, but that is closed to new applications (and may not continue for old cardholders). Any 2% cash back card will get you 2% cash back card everywhere. You might as well get a 2% cash back card anyway. The BankAmericard Cash Rewards Credit Card looks useless, but the rewards get boosted if you have Bank of America Preferred Rewards Program. Here's some links (may be out of date) http://www.doctorofcredit.com/best-credit-card-for-grocery-store-purchases/ http://www.magnifymoney.com/blog/earning-cashback/best-cash-back-credit-cards-for-every
  6. I've noticed a lot of bugs and glitches on the BOA website. Lots of inaccuracies, duplications, omissions, inconsistencies, but so far it's just been a problem with what they display, and in the end the correct transactions are made. But they definitely have problems in their IT department that need to be fixed.

  9. Apped for Barc Arr+ a few days ago. Got alert from CK of a HP on TU as expected. But the next day CK said the HP had been removed again?! Not sure what to make of that. I got a 10 day message about the app, so still waiting.
  10. Exactly. We have ASTC reciprocal membership which gets the whole family into any museum within a day's drive, that our kids are interested in (kids/science museums), for free, any day. It could be that there is an interesting museum on BOA's list and not on ASTC's, five states away, that we may happen to be at on the first weekend of the month, so I'll keep the AU trick in mind for that.
  11. How do you use this to get your whole family in free? What if both parents have a card, but none of the kids do? Read my post, and you'll find your answer I guess I was checking that you were serious about the AU thing for 3+ year olds.

  13. Another card I wonder about is BOA BBR. We have 1 each. It's like a card with a -$120 annual fee. We'll try and get more BBRs just by apping, and having pref rew might help getting them. But I can't figure out how they can keep having this card. Seems like another nerf candidate, but if not, I'll "use" it and try and get more.
  14. Does everyone get it on the same day. I just started getting it and it's on the 19th too, but I get exactly the same TU08 on Discover on the 20th, so it's pretty redundant (and on Barclay at the end of every second month).
  15. We got 4 Sallie Maes between us, so the caps aren't a problem. They cover a good amount of our spending for 5% cash back. It looks like we should use it while it lasts, and then when it ends we fall back on whatever the next best cards are for each category of spend, and/or see what other cash back cards are worth getting. The BOA cards start to look good with preferred rewards (which requires shifting some assets around, so there's a question of if it's worthwhile). I shouldn't overthink this. Just get collect the obvious cash back cards, and also get cards with decent signup bonuses (not ne
  16. I've only really been following credit card bonuses and cash back since last year, but already in that time I've seen how things can change. Bonuses and rewards go up and down, terms change, cards come and go. Issuers change their tactics; they might be overly generous for a while, and then swing the other way, and so on. Nobody has a crystal ball, but those of you who have been watching this a lot longer might have better guesses of what changes might be in store. My Sallie Maes give plenty of 5% CB, but new apps were stopped a year ago, and the card may be unprofitable. How long do you exp
  17. Did you payoff before the 1st statement cut, or after the 1st statement cut (but before due date)?
  18. I meet all your criteria and then some. I am 6/24 and no pre approval. Did you apply anyway?
  19. C1 doesn't charge interest from day 1 on 0% fee BT FEE. As long as you PIF by the due date, no interest will be accrued. What you are saying is different to what people are saying here. https://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=559761&page=79&do=findComment&comment=5543658 Look at comments #1965 - #1968 and #1977 - #1980 especially #1978 https://creditboards.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=559761&page=80&do=findComment&comment=5545598 Has anyone checked this out? How recently?
  20. Thanks. Your case does seem to fit the pattern of having good reasons for Chase to override 5/24.
  21. Either CapOne caught on and changed their procedure or the CSR was confused by the term "grace period." IME there never really was a grace period as we understand the term. It worked like this: 1. Statement date: 9/1/2016 2. BT: 9/2/2016 3. BT pay off: 9/30/2016 4. Statement date: 10/1/2016 5. No BT interest charged 6. Payment due date: 10/25/2016 But if you did it like this you were screwed: 1. Statement date: 9/1/2016 2. BT: 9/2/2016 3. Statement date: 10/1/2016 4. BT pay off: 10/2/2016 5. Payment due date: 10/25/2016 6. You are charged BT interest. Again, maybe
  22. I want to check I've got this right. So you can go into a Chase branch and ask if you're pre-approved for a CC in-branch. Also, while you're in the branch you might open a checking or savings account (i.e. to get a bonus). (Or the other way, if you're in branch to open account, you might as well ask about CC pre-approvals.) But is it true that the act of opening a checking or savings account does nothing to make a CC pre-approval appear? Either the CC pre-approval was already there before you walked in the door or it wasn't, right? And opening an account isn't going to change that? I know t
