  1. I'm sorry if people took this the wrong way but my son is very smart and responsible. His dad was in the military and deployed the first few years of his life and then he walked out on us and he hasn't seen his dad or talked to him in 11 years. I also get compliments from teachers on how mature he is. He also took some test on what he would be good at and he scored off the charts on anything to do with money. He didn't have grandparents around either when he was growing up and when I worked two jobs he spent a lot of times taking care of himself. I give him lunch money every week for about the past three years and he pretty much has all of it hidden. Not one time has he had any trouble at school and he does voleenteer work. I am very proud of him. The above statements really hurt my feelings.
  2. I'm sorry. Don't give up. Most of us have been there at one time or another.
  3. Ok so my son came home for lunch and we went ahead and applied for the cash rewards with NFCU. He got approved for 3500.00. I figured if he got approved it would be around $500 so I was shocked. I'll probably hang onto it most of the time he's pretty responsible with money but I'm more afraid of him losing it.
  4. Good advice Zosimus. My son got lucky as I didn't realize I had put him as an AU. I'm usually conscious of this but it worked out ok.
  5. when I applied I got a denial. About two hours later I got a text saying I had a 2200.00 credit limit. I logged into my account and it was on there. My scores at the time where around 580. I did have a secured card already so I don't know if that factored in. Good luck
  6. See I was thinking about trying to get him a Citi or Chase. He is very responsible and I would be monitoring it. I don't want to get him Capital One and Navy is a lot easier to obtain so thought he could do that later. What do you think? Ok and I'm raking my brain and can't find the abbreviations but what does HHI mean. Thanks
  7. I was curious, my son just turned 18 a few days ago and was surprised his credit score was 736. Do they normally start off that high? I also didn't realize he's an authorized user on my Navy Federal. I wonder if that helped. He has a better credit score than me.
  8. I misunderstood what was stated above, but on my the payments were made days before due date and on their page. Maybe there was a glitch or something. I just watch it closely now as I usually have charges on the Wal mart account every month.
  9. I have ran into this too recently, both with Amazon, and Wal-mart. I had to call but didn't have any trouble getting them to reverse the late fees for either time. I was thinking this must be something they are doing to see if people catch it. I now take a screen shot, and save my emails just in case.
  10. I think someone else touched on this but in Oklahoma and I'm assuming every state has this there is a non profit organization CCCSok.org that helps people with credit card debt. They are funded partly by the United Way and I think they are affiliated with Okla. state employees too. I think it is a legit organization. I had a friend a few years back who went to them. They call your credit card companies and work out interest, amount etc. I know most of her cards, the interest, late fees, etc. was waived. They make payment plans and a budget. I don't know much about it, but my friend complained some because she was on a tight budget but she did get her cards paid off. Maybe your state has something like this for your daughter.
  11. My neighbor just got sued by capital one for 3000 and she now has a judgment. I know 10,000 dollars is a lot but down the road she's going to need credit, buying a house another car etc. if she has bad credit interest alone might exceed 10,000 over a course of a few years. I hope this makes sense. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong but you said the Sol is three years but if she gets a judgment it's longer than that. This is why I wish they had a class in high school teaching this stuff instead of reading Hamlet. ( sorry English people). Lol Good luck to you
