I got a call from Reliant last week claiming to be collecting a debt from a community college I attended years ago. The caller was rude, which was no surprise, but I managed to get someone else on the phone.
She sent me a copy of a letter via email, that supposedly had been sent to me in December, stating I owed 499.95 plus 125.00 collection fee. The letter was unspecific as to what semester and class, etc. I replied with an email stating I would like a few days to confirm the debt. I also explained on the phone that I had filed and completed a BK7 last year and that this debt or collection was not on my credit report or it would have been included, which was why I was surprised it existed.
I was able to confirm there was a balance of 499 and change due on a payment plan from spring 2009 for a chemistry class I took. Unfortunately, I can't just pay the school. That brings me back to Reliant.. anyone have experience offering a payoff? I was going to send an email, but thought I would check here first to see if anyone could offer advice as to whether I should make an offer via email or written mail and how to word it.
I did some searching on Reliant here, going to go back through the results again and see what else I can find.
