  1. I will do. I'm getting excited about becoming homeowners. I was against it at first (too many repairs in the rental and its easy to pick up the phone and tell someone to fix it without $$$ out of our pocket) but when our landlord raised the rent and additional $250 ($1250 to $1500) and we figured we are paying more than what we could if we bought a home we decided our next step was owning a home. We both even obtained two jobs each to come up with the down payment. We made a goal to be homeowners by 2016! Thanks for the advice!
  2. Me I have two major, two store and one authorized user Husband has one major, three store and two authorized user-one major and one store we are joint on the one cc, and joint for one store
  3. Thanks. We'll go see them to see what is needed. I'm just worried about how recent everything is. I was pondering getting one more major CC in 6 months...Should I? Or should I just continue with what we already have???
  4. After many years of paying rent we have decided we want a home of our own. Would 18 months be too early to start the mortgage process? Here is our story...bear with me it's long, Back in December of 2012 we closed our accounts at a traditional bank and moved our accounts to a credit union (bank was giving us no love even when we never overdraft in the 5 years with them). September of 2013 requested a CC from credit union and received it. Been keeping uti under 10% paying off each paycheck. November we received a car loan with credit union for a 7.99% interest for $33,000, paying on time, never late. Husband is an authorized user on brother's AMEX to help build credit. In other words we didn't have good credit. Husband's "baddies" will fall off in 2015. My baddies were all medical from hospitalization in 2012. Used WhyChat's method and they are all gone! In September I went on a CC spree and obtain a Capital One CC, Wal-Mart and Care Credit (joint with husband) for me and for husband a Valero, Care Credit and Target. Will keep balances down to at the most 1% and pay off each month. My credit scores are as follows: EQ 637, EX 615, TU 611 (Very excited about my scores, this time last year they were all in the low 500s!) Husbands scores are as follows: EQ 600, EX 559, TU 614 (He has 5 baddies, scheduled to fall off by 2015) We are planning on using our Credit Union since we are building a relationship with them, with the car loan and cc. I was also planning on April of 2015 obtaining one more CC, not a store card, to help our portfolio. Should I or should I not??? I need advice on what we need to do to bring our scores up by May of 2016 to obtain a mortgage at a good rate. I hear that 620 is the rate some loan companies will approve. I want at least a low 700 or very high 600 before we start looking. Would love a 720 to 750 on all! My husband's score will go up once the "baddies" are gone. I am worried about how recent our credit will be and if that would be an issue on obtaining a mortgage. Need to also mention, both of us have two jobs and nickel and diming everything to save at least 20% to put down on a place. I've been at my current full time employment for over 9 years, husband just switched jobs in October, 2013 so he has been there a year. Would we be able to obtain a mortgage loan in 18 months???
  5. I have a $30,000 car loan at 7.99% with them and also got a $500 unsecured CC now up to $1000 almost a year ago. Scores were around 575 to 590 at the time. I think what helped us was we banked with them for a year with no overdrafts before applying for any credit. I love RBFCU. They were the only bank to help us when we were just starting to rebuild. Building a solid relationship with them so in 2016 they will approve a mortgage. My advice: Try opening a checking with direct deposit and keep it in good standing for at least 6 months then ask for credit.

    2015 Goals

As long as you don't listen to his advice on having credit cards, you're fine! That's the only part we don't understand on Dave Ramsey's Financial University. How are we going to obtain a mortgage if we don't have credit to get the mortgage? Even saving 10 to 20% for a down payment, no bank will loan us money without credit. We do use his budget system and debt snowball, his steps and envelope system. By using his system we have paid off debt, have an emergency savings, bought a washer and dryer with cash and saved to put my daughter in college with just her getting the governmental student loans. We have done this using his system, but understand that we need credit. The credit cards we do have are paid off each month. We haven't paid one DIME of interest by putting a monthly bill that we have to pay on the card per month, a bill that keeps our UTI down to 10%. We have been working two jobs each to get to the point we are at and I am very proud of myself and my husband for all that we have done so far! We are trying to stay smart with our credit. I want a house! I am glad you don't understand it because it is HORRIBLE financial advice. Not having credit is one of the dumbest financial moves you can make...which is why DR gets blasted around here. The other concepts he preaches like he invented them (paying off highest interest first, not spending more than you make, etc.) are not rocket science and have been around well before DR. The way I see it is we can live like no one else while we live like no one else with CREDIT!

  9. Thank you why chat! Yes I have followed all steps and am now down to the insert a and get this off my cr. The hospital agreed to settle the account for a lower amount as payment in full and I didn't know how to word the letter.
  10. I have a question on wording a settlement offer for a hospital on a medical debt. I have a settlement letter that will serve as an agreement for a regular cc debt, but I don't know if I should use the same letter or add extra wording to include HIPAA rights or so on. Backstory, which you will find on my other posts: Hospital original charge $3900, been paying for over 2 years now down to $3500, sent to collections. I have spoken with the manager of the billing department of the hospital and we reached a settlement lower than original amount and they have agreed to retract the account from collections once the payment has been made (that took time to convince because he wanted to just have the collection updated as paid "claiming" once it's sent it cannot be retracted, but everyone on this board knows it can). I will fax over the settlement letters for him to sign and I will not send the cashiers check until the letter is signed and returned to me. I have copied what the letter will state. I have not include important information such as name of hospital, blah, blah, blah. Please help me in the correct way to word this so I can get it sent to him as soon as possible. Thank you! Yes WhyChat, I have gone through all your steps and I'm on the step to "insert a" and make full payment, but I can't afford full payment but have saved up enough to settle. The Letter I Will Send: Dear Creditor, This letter is to confirm the settlement offer made between myself and your customer service representative ___________________ phone number _______________ made on ________, 20__. I really appreciate the fact that your company is willing to work with me on this matter; I wanted to make an honest attempt to settle this debt. The amount your customer service representative and I agreed to settle this debt in full is $___________. In addition, you will retract this debt from Collection Agency, any references on my credit reports (TransUnion, Experian or Equifax) relating to this debt as a collection or as late payment, paid collection or charge off regarding this account are removed from my credit file. If these terms are acceptable to your company, please sign the attached letter of agreement and return a copy to me. Upon receipt of this signed acknowledged agreement, I will express you a cashier’s check in the amount stated above. Yours truly, Your name Enclosed attachments. Agreement to settle a debt This contract shall serve to spell out the terms of a settlement offer between <insert your name>, hereafter referred to as CONSUMER and <insert credit card company’s name>, hereafter referred to as CREDITOR on acct number _______________________. 11. WhyChat have you seen this? http://abcnews.go.com/Business/video/fico-recalculates-medical-debt-policy-24899177 Seems like some good news!
  12. The payment is deducted from my checking account using my debit card. It shows the hospital receiving the payment. I'll continue as I am doing. I will also start the WhyChat way again. Thank you so much for your help with this.
  13. I will try that. I have been paying using the Hospital Online Payment site. I will start paying by money order from now on. I haven't made this months payment yet.
  14. Yes. It is still showing as a collection. The deal with this is I have been paying for two years. I didn't realize this one was sent to CA until after it was sent and I have still been paying on it. The CA NEVER sent me a letter. How I found out was we were trying to obtain credit for a car when ours was totaled in an accident. This is the only bad thing on my CR. Upon going through the process again do I continue to pay the OC or gather the money together and pay using insert A when that part comes?
  15. Date of service was 2/1/2012. Thanks. They are still accepting payments. Your thoughts...Is there no way to get this collection off the CR?
