  1. Thanks for the replies. Yes, I have hard copy of the report - which shows that the bank loan info, which was originally on report, is now off. Spoke to bank this a.m, they had already contacted the 'processing company" - and doing everything they can to fix as soon as possible. Will follow up.
  2. Of course I did not rely on Credit Karma! When I saw a 70 pt drop and noticed that the loan was NOT showing on the report, I immediately called Equifax directly. Equifax, not CK, provided information.
  3. In late May, I received a $500 secured loan from my credit union - which showed on reports and raised scores by mid June. I have already made first payment, and second payment coming up. My best score was EQ, 658. Over this past weekend, I opened Cap One Secured MC, $49 deposit, $200 line. I am awaiting card. So Far, so good. This afternoon, I decided to review my EQ score and report...low and behold, my score went down a whopping 70 points...and.....my bank loan entry was gone!!!! Report shows only one open, in good standing, account! Should have shown two (and soon three, once MC is activated.) I called EQ,.and the only thing they could come up with was that my bank failed to report. But I know it was on the report - last month - so any ideas as to what happened? It was too late to call my bank -- but will do so first thing in the morning, So weird -- and rather unsettling. Also....I have a GM charge off from 2016 which shows as open , reporting as recently as July 2018, yet indicates it ws closed - and doesn't show date closed. Also shows that its in dispute. Glad about that. Still, I really don't get it. Car was supposedly auctioned off in 2016, yet, I never received any notice of sale - or communication regarding the amount it was sold for. The charge off amount (approx. $3500) has been the same as original outstanding balance -; however, shouldn't it reflect final balance remaining post sale of car In 2016 ?- When all of this happened, I TRIED to discuss pay for delete with collection mgr -- and he adamantly refused. Would love to get this removed since it won't fall off for another 5 years. Otherwise, no derrogatories, only one baddie - but really need to build credit - which is why I 'm so ticked about bank loan not showing. Questions; Any thoughts on bank loan dis?appearing from EQ and a 70 pt drop? Any suggestions re charge off ? Should I try PFD letter? Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.
  4. Hi all. I applied for the unsecured Discover IT - as I read that they pulled Equifax (my highest at 658). Foolish mistake on my part -- because I would have been okay with secured, although I would not choose Discover for secured. Of course, they pulled Experian (my worst at 545) . I am down to two, albeit, one big baddie - a 2016 charge off ($3600) by GM, but have opened only one new credit line - in years -- so really need to get that going as well. Up until around three months ago, I had no inquiries on my reports. I made the mistake of going to an auto lease broker - didn't realize that in addition to the scores he pulls, car manufacturers separately pull scores as well. I wound up with four total inquiries. A few weeks later, I opened a line (secured loan) with my credit union, and my scores went up - Equifax in particular. I realized that I really needed to open more lines ...so I figured I would try Discover. Rejected. So...I now have five inquires on my reports - and no card - secured or otherwise. My question : I would like to apply for the Cap One Secured (not taking any chances), but that will mean yet another inquiry. Should I wait before I apply for the card? If so, how long? I realize that the benefits of adding the credit line may outweigh the risk of another inquiry, but not sure about this. Any thoughts, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. PS - Preapprovals from Cap One online and via mail - for Quicksilver....but even so, I'm reluctant to apply - don't want to take another chance.
  5. Thanks, suspected that was the case. I also realize that a car dealer can promise anything and then change the story when he runs your score. Yesterday rec'd approval from Cap One secured MC at 49.00 deposit for 200 line (per my last post yesterday) Is it too soon to apply for one more credit card - from another bank or company?
  6. Okay guys, I'm in!!! Instant approval Cap One Platinum , and only $49.00 deposit required for a $200 line for starters. I can deposit more (over a few weeks) to increase line - up to $1000, (but need to re-check that). In a way almost like a partialyl secured card. Now I'm wondering....should I do another? Thank you ...thank you...thank you!
  7. Many thanks to all, really appreciate the great feedback. I will follow up and keep you posted.
  8. Thanks for the feedback . You are correct about Discover. I know because when I asked what was pulled - the rep said Exp,but added that the CRA pulled is random. Will most creditors ignore frozen reports and simply rely on the one that is active? Will they tell you that they must have info from all three ? When I recently told a Hyundai sale rep that my EQ was around 648 (or 658} he offered a 0$ down lease and $349 monthly payment on a new (fully loaded) Tuscon. Of course, I didn't let him run my credit because wasn't sure what he would pull. I later read that Hyundai goes with highest score. ...Perhaps I should freeze TU and EX for now and see what happens.

  10. Apologies. I should have limited to the complaint. Where would I post inquiry re when to apply?
  11. I was under the impression that Discover relies on Equifax ,(658) so I applied online for the IT unsecured and was immediately rejected. When I inquired about CRA, was told Experian , my worst (545) due to 2016 charge off. My fault, of course, should not have assumed that info out there is that reliable. Also makes me wonder if they communicate false info to these websites. In the mean time, I now have that inquiry on my report. The irony is, I would have been okay with the secured card. Now I am reluctant to apply for any card -- and I really need more lines as I am down to two baddies but added only one line thus far. Any suggestions as to when I can apply? I had no inquires on my report - but wound up with three - all at once - because I went to an auto lease broker a few months ago and did not realize that each dealer would place an inquiry. So, yes, very disappointed in Discover, as well as my own less than stellar judgement on this one.
  12. Of course there is much more to the story -- not first repo, other debt ( CC not too large), but there is student loan currently in deferment and tax lien . I have atty working on taxes. I am aware that student loan and taxes don't go away. Thanks, will start thread and post under bankruptcy as well.

    Repo

Hi all. My car was repo'd and I must pay off the entire balance ($4500) which I do not think I can do by the deadline . I was able to negotiate a 30 day term -- (tried for 60 day) but it still leaves me one paycheck short -- and the lender refused to extend deadline for the additional two weeks . Won't bore you with all of the details . Here's my question: Since my credit is already shot - can't get much worse, would it make sense to file for bankruptcy (chptr?) and try to save the car? Truth is - I would welcome a fresh start (although I still have tax situation - working out via atty) but not sure filing won't make matters even worse - although that is hard to imagine. Many thanks in advance for any suggestions and insights. Would also welcome any words of encouragement from those who have been here -- in this terrible dark zone.
  14. Geico will not allow liability only -- at least that's what i've been told. Sorry, !! I meant, GM will not allow liability only!
  15. Yes - you are so right. Some kind of an alert or flag came up in their system -- and they did a real bad job of hiding it. I don't think it would have been on the part of company , more likely my driver's license - but that's the part that I really don't understand. If the temp. suspension showed up - which is probably the case, (the only thing I can think of, assuming they didn't run a credit or chex report! ) given the many times they've cashed the check before, why make such a big deal? There is one other possibility that came to mind: Right after storm Sandy I had the company put a stop on my pay check. At the time, they had mailed it out -- but it didn't show up (until 3 weeks later) so they stopped the check and issued a new one. Several months later when I went into the branch to cash my check this "stop" order - showed up -- and also became a big deal . As I recall the date was either wrong or not showing up - and apparently they weren't sure if they were supposed stop the check I was presenting. In that case, they were able to verify -- although i don't recall all the details. I know that I mentioned the problem to the company payroll mgr - and I assumed she followed up because the issue didn't come up again. Now I'm wondering if its possible that the teller saw a "stop" order somewhere in the history and somehow thought it was problematic. Who knows. I plan on going to the other branch of CB - where I've also cashed many times - great staff and never had any problem. In fact, when that mgr asked why I don't open acct there and I told her that I had a 2010 report on chex -- she offered to run the chex report and "see what happens...tell you what it says...." with the hope that it would not be problematic and she would open a acct. for me. I didn't do it then -- but I may well follow up now. I really do want to know what in the world came up that caused such a dramatic reaction .- If something comes up again, I think this mgr will tell me. I also reviewed the list of CU's in NY and will be following up. I'v noticed two or three CU 's - not on list - but w/branches in my area that I would like to explore. Is it okay to ask if they run reports ? Seems there would be a trade off that could backfire. I will not call the Mgr at the nasty Citi branch because she was the the one that was so rigid -- and very passive aggressive (sorry I'm a psych). I also have no doubt that that mgr will be too invested in maintaining her stance and sense of power -- however superficial it may be. She will want to justify and reinforce her decision -- and the hideous behavior she displayed yesterday. I may be over-reacting here, but honestly, I am still crazy angry over how this was handled. I realize its an ego thing --on my part - that I should "let it go" or "get over it". I'm not ruminating - not sitting around and stewing -- but I plan on following up with someone in management - either at the regional or national level. Thank you for the excellent feedback -- really helpful.
  16. I will give Progressive a try, but I have a hunch that with insurance lapses and poor credit I will be in the land of high insurance premiums - - at least for a while. Too bad I recently lapsed with with the payments - that's really how I landed here. I fully expected to see an increase in my premium - but honestly, I never imagined it could be as high as 100%! It really is legalized price gauging , and they do it -- because they can. Lesson learned. Many thanks again. I
  17. Apologies! Sorry for the caps - should have realized. I have a TD Bank on chex for approx $800. At the time it occurred, in 2010, I spoke to them about it - and their "collections " dept would not reduce or negotiate. This was pre my introduction to chexsystem and CB. I will be sending a PFD letter - but not sure how it will turn out. They seem to be pretty rigid. I had two other banks on the reports - for very small amounts -- but those were taken care of back in 2010. In any case, I will see what happens with TD before trying to open a bank acct. I haven't checked the reports so I will do that as well. I have looked at the list for NY - where I live -- and the online banks as well. Have only applied to one - I think it was Suntrust -- and got a nasty rejection letter - which made some kind of reference to their policies concerning fraud. With respect to the Citibank experience -- I am more than annoyed -- and I may follow up with sr. management. I agree with you , they have no obligation to cash non-customer checks -- even if the check is drawn on one of their corporate accts. But they have been cashing this check for the past year or so -- on a fairly regular basis . At the beginning, every two weeks, then 1 or 1 X/ month - depending on my whereabouts. Sometimes I use another Citi branch - which is a bit further but I sometimes go there to shop and the branch people there could not be nicer. I just don't understand what this was all about -- way too much grandstanding on their part, not to mention, incredibly offensive . Appreciate your response. Many thanks.
  18. I HAVE BEEN CASHING MY BI-WEEKLY PAYCHECK AT CITIBANK -- WHERE THE COMPANY (FOR WHOM I PROVIDED CONSULTING SERVICES) HOLDS THEIR ACCOUNT. TYPICALLY THE PROCESS TAKES A BIT LONGER THEN REGULAR CHECK CASHING AS I DO NOT HAVE AN ACCT WITH THEM. TODAY, WHEN I HANDED THE TELLER THE CHECK WITH MY DRIVERS LICENSE, AFTER PROCESSING COMPUTER INFO, SHE EXCUSED HERSELF SAYING SHE BE RIGHT BACK AND WENT TO THE BACK WHERE SHE SPENT A GOOD 15 MINUTES TALKING TO SOME STAFF MEMBER --WHO THEN CAME BACK TO THE WINDOW WITH THE TELLER - TO INFORM ME THAT THEY COULD NOT CASH THE CHECK BECAUSE THEY WERE UNABLE TO "VERIFY IT." THE CHECK ITSELF, WHICH WAS PRINTED OUT, AND EXACTLY AS THE ONES I'VE CASHED THERE BEFORE, WAS A CITIBANK CHECK ! THEY SAID THEY TRIED TO CONTACT SOMEONE AT THE OFFICE -- BUT NO THERE WAS NO ANSWER. I WAS AWARE THAT THE OFFICE CLOSES EARLY ON FRIDAYS, SO I WAS NOT SURPRISED . BUT THEIR EXPLANATION, "WE HAVE TO VERIFY CHECK TO BE CASHED WHEN ITS NON-CUSTOMERS..." DIDN'T MAKE SENSE -- GIVEN THE ACCOUNT IS WITH THEM FOR SOME TIME AND I HAVE CASHED CHECKS THERE MANY TIMES BEFORE (ALTHOUGH DOES SEEM TO BE CONSIDERABLE STAFF TURNOVER) . I WILL ADMIT THAT I BECAME ANGRY - AS I HAD TRAVELED THERE AND STOOD ON A LONG LINE -- AND THEN WAITED FOR THAT 15 ADD'L MINUTES ONLY TO HEAR NO.. BUT I ALSO NOTICED THAT THEY APPEARED TO BE VERY SUSPICIOUS -- AND IT MADE ME WONDER IF THE FACT THAT MY DRIVERS LICENSE WAS TEMP. SUSPENDED (NOW RESTORED) WOULD HAVE CAUSED THEM SUDDENLY TO MAKE SUCH A BIG DEAL. EVEN SO, REALLY INAPPROPRIATE . AS I WALKED OUT OF THE BRANCH, I DECIDED TO TRY THE OFFICE MYSELF - A SPECIFIC EXTENSION - AND I DID REACH SOMEONE WHO THEN FORWARDED THE CALL TO THE HEAD GUY - WHO AS IT TURNED OUT, WAS STILL THERE. BECAUSE I WAS STILL RIGHT BY THE BRANCH - I WALKED BACK IN AND HANDED THE PHONE TO THE MGR -- WHO SAID (ON THE PHONE TO HEAD GUY)..'" WE HAVE MS. XXX HERE, AND SHE WANT TO CASH A CHECK. BUT WE NEED TO SPEAK TO YOU FIRST -- IS THERE A NUMBER WE CAN CALL YOU BACK ON?" (AGAIN, INAPPROPRIATE) AND YET ANOTHER 10, 15 MINUTES GOES BY .....WHEN THE WOMAN IN THE BACK WHO WAS MAKING THE CALL --FINALLY COMES OUT AND SUMMONS THE MGR -- AND THEY TALK - INA SEPARATE AREA - (OUT OF VIEW BUT BEHIND TELLER AREA) FOR ANOTHER 10 MINUTES THEN FINALLY COME OUT AND INFORM ME THAT, "WE WERE UNABLE TO REACH HIM . HE MUST HAVE GIVEN THE WRONG NUMBER." THEN SOME WISE flowers COMMENT ABOUT I CAN DEPOSIT IT AT MY BANK...SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT -- IN ALL LIKELIHOOD, SUSPECTING THAT I DIDN'T HAVE A BANK CHECKING ACCT. I LEFT - BUT DID LET THEM KNOW THAT I WOULD BE FOLLOWING UP ON THE HIDEOUS MANNER IN WHICH THIS WAS HANDLED. IT WAS AS IF THEY WENT OUT OF THEIR WAY TO CRIMINALIZE ME AND THE WHOLE SITUATION! WHAT WAS UP WITH THIS? ANYONE?
  19. GOOD FOR YOU! BUT HAVE NO DUI'S . ( THE "LAPSE" WAS PAYMENT -- NOT WITH MEMORY ) RECOMMENDATIONS?
  20. Following a ten week lapse, my insurance company , Geico, has just about doubled my premium so that I would now pay approx. $625/month! I am in NY State. Wondering if anyone can suggest another auto insurance co to look into. My driving record is decent - no major accidents - but a few lapses - until recently none more than a week or two. Not making light of lapses -- but really 100% increase! Is this not price gauging? Many thanks for any suggestions.
  21. The storage facility is not allowed to provide info re buyer; however, they can provide the buyer with my contact info. I have read the statutes for the state (PA) and not 100% certain about the" personal property "statute but my initial take is that I have no rights to any of the contents, personal or otherwise. I will find out later today. Seems there may be a few states where personal items must be returned, but I do not think that that is the case here. It looks like some storage facilities will arrange for return of personal items (photos, files, etc). There may also be opportunity to purchase the unit back . I am devastated, but to be honest - all is replaceable . It's primarily furniture - some pieces which I love ( a few fairly expensive), but no family heirlooms, etc. That said, more than the loss of furniture or any other material "things" --which is, of course, very upsetting, for me, the feeling of personal invasion is most devastating. Its legal -- I think in most states by 60 days. Still, for me there is something incredibly ugly and sleazy about this business . Many thanks for your input and support.
