  1. Agree 100% Never app for a new account before you close on a mtg. I have seen people lose their homes right before closing because it changes their DTI. Most lenders have a disclosure in the bank pkg that you sign stating that you have not applied for any new credit so please dont risk it.
  2. It would be better to have an uncle Giovanni for this purpose. All kidding aside, the banks are just not lending unsecured these days unless your credit scores are at least 750 or above. If you find one your interest rate will just be too high. If you have a car that is almost paid off and under 100k miles some credit unions like PenFed will do a secured loan for a low rate. Another option if you own a home is a HELOC for about a 4.25% rate USAA and Penfed, unsecured is tough, not many lenders willing to take that risk.
  3. If your score is still good enough with the heavy utilization you can do it. True what Brian says, the lender may ask you to pay down all or a portion of the cc debt if need be to bring down your DTI, unless your income is high enough then it wont be required. They usually Fed-x the checks after funding and make them payable to the card companies for you to send in. Keep in mind most lenders will only lend up to 70 % of the homes equity for a HELOC with an online valuation service like Core Logic, if you pay for a hard appraisal up front they will lend 80 to 85% of the homes equity depending on the lender. Real appraisal reduces the risk for the lender but you do have to pay around $450. which is not refundable but better than those valuation services they use now.
  4. Most lenders always check their blacklist first so you lucked out on that first HP. AMEX does the same, I hope you left AMEX in a good way because they have a much much longer memory than Cap1. I wish you luck with your recon
  5. I did mine online 4 years ago, I didn't even think they did secured anymore. I wouldn't app for a new Citi card until your reports are clean. They don't like collections and would probably deny you or give a worthless limit. Just keep the card and at every 6 months you can request a CLI online without a HP if your request is modest. I still have mine and every 6 months I ask for $400 and get it with a message that a CR was not pulled. I never get a HP. Mine is up to $2400, They will also change the card to unsecured on your reports also. I really don't need it but im doing a long term experiment to see how high I can get a former Citi secured card to go, plus its one of my oldest accounts and that always helps. Im shooting for 10K. Once your reports are clean get a better card like a Citi Thank You Preferred or whatever your heart desires.
  6. Ican, I received a response today from EX and Great News! I am so relieved and just estatic that they blocked the record from my report. I just hope its permanent and it doesn't return for any reason. It states on the first pg: "The items that you requested to be blocked as a result of identity theft have been blocked from your personal credit report. "The credit grantor that supplied the information also has been notified". They sent a full copy of the report with it deleted. Maybe soon my ex score will go back up the 78 points I lost. I cant tell you how Thankful I am to have your help great advice and guidance during this very stressful and difficult time and just being a member of this awesome CB forum with its very helpful people and resources. I learned alot from this experience and I hope I can help someone in the future. What further action should I take if any? I have not received anything yet from Consumer Rec. Asso. or BOA ( the furnishers). Thanks Again, I really appreciate it. Did your score bounce back completely? I checked it last night and it did bounce almost all the way back to 764, was 768, what a relief. Maybe when Credit Sesame updates next month they wont send me an offer for a secured card. Like I need a secured card, its amazing how one bad TL reporting changes everything.
  7. I will keep everything just in case it comes back and if it does file that complaint. That was pretty fast results for how slow moving the credit file world is. Its weird that I didn't receive any credit monitoring alerts that it was removed. I always receive some type of alert when there is a change on one of my reports. I think I will check my EX again myself online just to make sure its gone. I don't see it on the report they sent me but I don't trust them either for obvious reasons. Thanks Again

  9. Ican, I have all the green cards back now, I just got the last one for EX on Sat. I have not heard or seen any activity on my report yet. Its probably too soon still but I should hear something hopefully this week. I did however receive last week a dispute result by mail which EX started over the phone and then canceled when I called back to report it as ID Theft. You were right, they didn't do anything the regular route, it came back as verified (remains) and its not even mine. I don't think they really do anything the first time you dispute something. I am prepared to file a CFPB complaint if they don't block the info. by the end of this week. I'll keep you posted, Thanks Again
  10. Don't worry, It will come, I made 4 payments with Wells Fargo and on the 5th month it showed up on all 3 reports. It just depends on the lender.
  11. Yes, I said there may be a mixed file issue, or the JDB parking it on your reports, but FACTA gives you protections and quicker actions than normal FDCPA/ FCRA dispute process. Use ti. you still need to follow thru with the ID theft letters to BOA it's on your reports, they are the furnishers of information, and the CRA's will only delete it when BOA tells them to. you need a paper trail on this - intial phone calls are A OK, but follow it all up with letters. CMRR. ICAN, Ok, I filed the FTC and police report and sent out everything CMRR with docs but no personal info to the CA just last 4. I did call EX and tried to get them to block over the phone but the CSR I talked to wasn't that helpful and said they couldn't do it by phone after she asked me for more info, police report number and deputy's badge number ect. She said ok if they decide not to block it we will let you know and I said why wouldn't you block it if its reported as ID Theft FACTA rules and regs. She said well it just depends on the situation, I thought they would be a little more receptive to this kind of dispute. Hope for the best. That is alot of leg work anyway you slice it but you have saved me so much time and aggravation and showed me a different and hopefully more effective way to handle this kind of dispute. Which I probably would have just went through the regular dispute channels with no results. This was so much easier with all your help Thank you again and I will let you know what happens next.
  12. Yes, that is the best way to handle it. Thanks, looks like I have my work cut out for me. I will update you. Really Appreciate your input.
  13. Ican, ok need more advice, I called BOA identity unit and they could not find any account with my ssn so now I know that Consumer Recovery Asso. is reporting bad info on my file. BOA thought maybe they had me mixed up with someone else and just placed it on my report. I called them but they had a closed office greeting on their line which is strange because its business hours.. I want to call them back but I don't want to give them any personal info to use against me but I know this is not my debt. What should I do at this point? Id like to try and get the whole account number from them so BOA can look it up and rule me out as owner. Should I continue with FACTA ID route? Thanks
