JDB issue - letter/calls threatening lawsuit
SierraStar replied to EvilQueen's topic in Credit Forum
EQ, If you contact an atty & nothing comes of it, it won't cost you anything but the time you spent talking to them. For me, if there's even a remote chance I can cause one of these scum bags to lose some money for their illegal behavior, I will most certainly do it. -

Yep, using a Yahoo email is not exactly very business like. As for calling & discussing with family & threatening to serve, well, let's just say those are two things that when done can get you paid a lot of money. Payout is nothing for an untraceable scammer. It looks like they are operating by piggybacking off of the name of a legitimate business. Legitimate business don't make that many errors trying to collect a debt. That's one clue that this is a scam. I'm going strictly by my own experiences with 4 different JDBs that yes, were more than stupid enough to make a lot of mistakes that got me paid for those mistakes. From calling relatives, to leaving harassing VMs, to not leaving proper details on VMs, to excessive calls, to calling at all hours, there are more than enough legitimate JDBs who still make a lot of mistakes. So while the OP's case is most likely a scam. don't make the assumption that just because a JDB makes a lot of mistakes they're not legitimate. I've got the checks to prove otherwise. -

Do you wonder about collection notices sent via a Yahoo email? It wasn't sent via email, OP received a notice that states, "Please cut along line above and return with payment to...", kind of hard to cut here on an email. OP asked about responding to their notice via the email they gave in the notification, OP did not state they received an email notification. Only OP can clarify method they received notification from JDB. And yes, I've received collection notices via email, from CAs and JDBs, while they didn't use a Yahoo address, I have gotten them. From Island National Group & Synchrony's in house CA. -

A phone call to a consumer debt attorney will solve it quickly for the OP, will take all of 5 mins, better to know for certain than to wonder "what if." Attorney may even know more details about the alleged JDB. I say this as someone who had not heard of the 4 JBDs I filed against, nor was I able to find much out about them on the Internet, but my attorney sure knew who they were. -

There are so many violations there, I would get a good credit attorney & go after them. I've caught 4 different JDBS in the last year not properly leaving VMs for me, had my attorney contact them & each time we settled, with me getting a nice check. The last one not only removed the account from my CR, they paid out & will not sell the debt again, nice win for me for them not properly leaving a VM. Good luck & I hope you get paid well for their mistakes. -
Interesting, I'm a Recruiter & almost every single person we have hired has been due to a job posting we had, I hire from entry level up to C Suite level. In the last two years, we have hired only one person from a referral from a current employee. Every job I've ever gotten was from a job posting, whether from the Internet or a newspaper back in the day, I've never gotten a job from networking. As in most things, YMMV.

I think you can have two. My sister had someone use her account at a landscape company in Hawaii and she is in Wyoming. She turned in a police report and on it. nine coworkers (as well as her computer login) confirm she was in Cheyenne that day on the report. Three of the coworkers signed a statement with a notary saying she was in Wyoming and Discover still won't reverse the charge. She's never been to Hawaii Time for your sister to file a dispute with CFPB. I see she can upload her police report and copies of the statements online. Does she need to send it to CFPB CMRRR as well like when you do a dispute with a credit reporting agency? No, you file the dispute entirely online, no need to snail mail anything. Have her upload the police report, the signed statements from her co-workers, the printout showing she was in WY and the denial letter from Discover.

While you can't get points for the pre-paid, can't you get points for using the regular CC, if that's what you're using to fund the pre-paid & it doesn't count as a cash advance?
-
Thanks CNC, that was very helpful! I’m bookmarking this page to refer back to as my accts age & most likely continue to be resold, a couple have already been sold to JDBs & then sold again to other JDBs.

RGB & CNC, Do you think that if a debt has been sold many times over, that one would have a better chance of disputing & the successfully having the account deleted due to lack of supporting documents?

If someone sells you a car and doesn't give you the title, did he REALLY sell you the car? When the OC "sells" my debt, he transfers a computer file, a list, of thousands of people who supposedly owe money to the bank. Someone might be on that list and owe nothing to the bank. Bear in mind we are talking revolving credit car debt not a signature loan or a promissory note/car loan. There already lies a problem. When I entered into a credit card contract with the OC, was I part of a list? Why can't the OC transfer my original contract? Or send a letter to the JDB(or to me) telling them(me) that I, tobettercredit, had an unpaid balance and that the balance has been transferred to Midland, for instance? If they did things that way they would make things easier for them and everybody else. But This will NEVER happen because the OC will NEVER want to be exposed to liabilities. Which means collecting revolving debts will ALWAYS be an issue for JDBs. Recently I’ve had Synchrony mail me quite a few letters stating they sold my accounts to PRA or Midland. You still can challenge PRA or Midland if they sue you for breach of contract between Synchrony and you. Basically asking them what was in that contract. Most of the time they won't know and will fold. Thanks, that's good to know! I'm currently laying low, accts went bad back in late summer '15, some accts I used my CA address, some I used my WA address. Doing my best to not poke anyone & just ride it out.

Citibank just closed my secured card without reason
SierraStar replied to GettingItUp's topic in Credit Forum
You're thinking of Chase, USAA, and some credit unions that have reported closing accounts after the fact based on suspicious history Thanks, I knew about the Usual Suspects, but wasn't certain about Citi. -

SierraStar replied to GettingItUp's topic in Credit Forum
Did you pull your reports to see if there is anything negative that could have caused them to close your card? Sidenote to CB: Is Citi one of the banks that will close accts if they find negative items of a criminal nature from other CRA's? -
Hold up! She hasn't answered her interrogatories yet? And the judge let her "have" the house? No, sounds like OP is accusing his XW of lying in court and the magistrate let it slide If that's the case, OP should hire my ex's atty, that guy was a shark & I'm certain worth every penny the ex spent for our divorce. OP, you have to ask yourself what the most important thing is for you & your son right now. I understand the emotional value of wanting to keep the house you own, it's a difficult choice to make when emotions are running high as they often do during a divorce. A great place to start is writing out a Pro & Con list, seeing a written out list can be a great motivator to figuring out what will work for you. There are things I don't remember during my own divorce because there were times I was running on autopilot & numb to what was happening to me. I did go to therapy which helped tremendously & got my focus on the nitty gritty of not being run over by my ex in the divorce. Wishing you the best!

Even if your profiles are mostly the same, in my experience scores tend to increase the newer the model, and likewise as you move from TransUnion to Equifax to Experian you see higher scores. I happen to have a set of concurrent scores for my profile, and TU-08 is the highest while EX-98 is the lowest. Yep, my profiles are very similar, there maybe a difference of one or two accounts, but nothing drastic. In a few months I'm moving & of course the rental properties will pull my CRs, too bad I won't know which CRA they will use. Still, I'm doing what I can to get them as strong as possible with the negatives I have. I even ran a mortgage to see what is going to come crawling out & so far I haven't seen anything come forth from the muck.
-
Thanks, that makes sense because my EX has always been my weaker CR.

Hello, I get FICO scores from DCU and NASA and my DCU score is 25 points higher. What is the difference between the two scoring models and is one more accurate than the other?
-
pretty much, yeah. how old and what state are you in ? I'm out of sol - they even said they can no longer take legal action. That is in writing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Is the debt older than 7 years?
