There's No Crying In Credit Repair
  1. I somehow managed to dodge the bullet as well, and I've been pulling SC pretty solid for the last year - almost daily for the full term (as well as a few periods of SC AND TUP in tandem) UNLESS there is further R* to come over the next few days that is...
  2. R* Inqs are USUALLY easily B* (even more so than the initial b*) - but yeah, this sucks in terms of timing for anyone who was about to app for a TU pull... Quick question, does this usually happen in waves? I wasn't b*ing TU last year, so I can't recall. I just finished a round about a month back, and have seen no reinsertion as of yet, SC still shows me at 0. Reckon I got lucky or is the axe yet to fall?a
  3. I'd say the single BIGGEST shortfall was diving into disputes without FULLY understanding the process. This caused some slowdown due to CRAs denying some disputes as "previously disputed", when I likely could have knocked them out initially had I read more closely... It's an easy fix - READ the stickies, then search the forum for the terms you're hazy on... Like most, I was impatient and itching to get started and it cost me some time.... Read in full and ASK SPECIFIC QUESTIONS before you do ANYTHING you are the least bit uncertain about. Mine was all garden variety stuff - ONLY out of the ordinary thing I had was a recurring tax return seizure due to a government card debt. I detailed it in the military forum, but it's one in a thousand that anyone has the same issue. The rest of my process could literally be copied and pasted from the stickies here - just changing the names of the creditors. Aside for the early bonehead moves? Everything I did worked pretty much EXACTLY as the forum said it would! Even had some luck with good wills, lol...
  4. Huh? I don't know how much clearer I could be than what I said above - trying to distill it down to a single thread would be like trying to sum up the Encyclopedia Brittannica in a blog post... And it's got little to do with "bragging" - was purely an affirmation that the techniques and information shared ALL OVER this website are absolutely valid and productive. There's not a SINGLE method I mentioned or circumstance I encountered that wasn't covered in either a sticky post or a master thread - my recounting it would have been impossible AS WELL AS repetitive. Stop being a lazy hand-feed-me-my-victory complainer and take responsibility for your own success. Or don't... Matters little to me. WHATEVER you do - DON'T post any feedback! Lest you become a braggart... (Thanks again, CB - any specific questions I can answer, I'd be happy to.)
  5. Harley did it. NFCU's lowest available rate for a M/C is 5.80%, so I went for the lower rate. And it's gonna be upper 60's lower 70's here this afternoon, Jay...
  6. Just updating to let y'all know that you were right - not even a mention of the other auto loans, instantly approved for 17.5k on a new Harley (that was the amount needed, no idea how much they would have approved...) 3.99% for 60 months and drove it out of the dealership. Thanks!
  7. Got it. Figured it was not THAT simple, thought I'd ask. Lol, aaaaaaand THAT's something I just learned today.... Thanks!
  8. I know this is kind of esoteric, but I'm curious if there are any unintended consequences I might encounter... Bought a Toyota last spring, (March 2014) and financed it through Toyota Financial. Made about 8 payments on it when it was totaled in November. 100% positive history but was my youngest account at the time. Went right back and bought ANOTHER Toyota immediately after the wreck, financed as well. Sooooo, I ended up with TWO relatively young tradelines and only one vehicle to show for it. One that is now 10 months old (and paid in full with the insurance settlement), and another that is now 3 months old. I know that disputing minor details on positive TLs will often get them completely deleted vs "fixed". If I did so, that could possibly render the first auto loan a non-factor in my credit file, and basically halve the number of "new" accounts I have added during the last year (the rest were almost all *D Amices). I'm a little new-credit phobic as I'm about to buy a motorcycle and will likely app a mortgage next fall. My AAOA is currently 8.94, the spreadsheet says this would bump me up to 9.29 immediately. And then down the line... My file is good, so it's not a big deal - BUT if I can wipe off a very young TL (and not really hurt anything else - I have plenty of Auto loans reporting through the years on my file) it would be worth a quick online dispute... Is bumping the AAOA going to outweigh the benefit of just another installment TL reporting paid in full? Go easy on me - I'm just beginning to play the "age" game after getting my files clean...
  9. Thanks, Sandscrit - I actually JUST finished a two day course. It was GREAT, btw - I'd highly recommend it for all riders....
  10. I've never financed a cycle before, thinking REALLY hard about a Harley.... My income, util and credit file are all good - BUT I'm really not sure what effect my overall debt might have (Already have a new auto loan as well as a well-aged mortgage on the books). Any thoughts on how this plays with a "leisure" purchase like a cycle??? I understand that there are questions when someone has two auto loans, is that the case with a motorcycle? I'm also an NFCU member - better to go this route that captive? 11. Pretty much this. There are a few anomalies that have occurred on their end that have led to TU pulls, and a few geographic outliers, but there is no real consistent capability to request a different bureau after freezing EX.
  12. Thanks for all the CONGRATS! If you're just starting out, take it as gospel from me that the methods and tactics discussed here DO work. They require diligence and a fair amount of effort, BUT there is NO smoke and mirrors, none of the established posters here are trying to sell you anything - it's just the hard earned experience and knowledge of those who put in the legwork in the past. I shamelessly "borrowed" it and it worked GREAT for me... It can look hopeless and pointless at times - take it a small chunk at a time and before you know it, you're looking at something "manageable". That's when the despair lifts and it becomes a mission instead of a chore, ALMOST fun at times... I think I only let 1 item "age off" naturally - a single 30 day late that was doing very little damage and sandwiched between bigger issues. This last baddie this morning was 3 months out from a natural death, but had some irregular activity going on (blatantly re-aging) that might have kept it on there for no telling how much longer. Next step? A prime mortgage later this year
  13. I first logged onto this site in December of 2013, after looking into buying a new car and discovering that my strategy of "cash only / no credit" was holding me back. I wasn't a credit consumer, and didn't realize how so much old/incorrect/outdated/downright NEGATIVE stuff was torpedoing me. Like anyone else, I logged in looking for a "quick fix", but found a whole new world of insight and hard work. I started in earnest in February (after reading everything I could here - often over and over before it would sink in). I made a few missteps along the way, BUT the results have been tremendous... I started with the following scores - this was with anywhere between 11 - 15 derogs depending upon the CRA, and only THREE positive TLs between them... (Plus a positive mortgage) Over time, I tackled them using pretty much every tactic discussed on this site. The medical stuff got WhyChat'd, the older stuff got obsolete'd, the incorrect stuff got disputed and deleted. There were PFD's, 1-2 punches and a crap ton of record keeping and backtracking... In that time, I've managed to rack up the following POSITIVE TL's : AmEx PRG AmEx Green AmEx BCE -17.5k AmEx BCP - 15k AmEx HHonors - 5k (All of the above with a MS Date of 1993!) Lowe's - 20k NFCU Sig - 25k USAA World M/C - 6k USAA AmEx - 5k Discover 17k I also managed to "grow" the only 3 TLs I had from before (PayPal, Amazon and Bealls) from $150-300 limits to a couple grand each along the way - salvaging the time I had with them on the record... Not the least of all, I went from unable to buy a decent vehicle to walking out of a dealership with top tier rates and a deal that I was able to negotiate from a position of strength - THAT alone was a tremendous victory for me. Long story short, my FINAL dispute on EQ was deleted and reflected on MyFICO this morning, and gave me an 88 point jump! The scores below show the change, but they don't even reflect the two shiny new Amices with 22 years of age that I just got last week. These scores are also with a 6k revolving debt reporting on my NFCU card which WON'T be there next month. I'd guess that with my util maxed out at 1% and the two "new" old cards reporting I should see solid 800's + across the board! Thanks a million for all of the help along the way! Hope I can pay some of it back.
  14. Pay them off, but let a few dollars report each month. Zero util is a negative influence on scores, just a couple bucks on a single card is adequate to show usage (and won't cost you any appreciable interest).
  15. I know that is the common logic on it, but EX was a breeze for me during all my disputes (including obsoletes) - EQ was the sticking point. I have ONE last derog on EQ that came off of both TU and EX months ago. EQ has been a damned pitbull over this - I'm pretty much at my seven years and it will age off at this point... And I guess saying it "out loud" had some magical effect? Lol, just got the notice that EQ deleted the final derog after my latest dispute (submitted on the 23rd, just got the update) Guess the EQ pitbull finally gave up!!!! Sooooooooo.... For the FIRST time EVER all 3 files are squeaky clean!!!!!! Once I get my updated scores I'll start a "thanks!" thread, lol.
