  1. CapOne. Besides, it's not about the liability of the debt but getting it off the reports. I haven't had ANY comminication from them in more than a year so they are not actively chasing me for it .
  2. No. Live in NJ and SOL is 6 yrs. Still have 2 to go. I'm just wondering if they ever give up and sell the debt to someone else.
  3. I know PRA has been beaten to death on this board, but I have another question for those who've dealt with them. I have a collection with them (~$250) that's a drag on the scores. Knowing they don't PFD, and paying a CA has little effect on the overall scores, what is their history in selling the debt to someone else, giving me the chance to pay for it before it reports? Do they sell their debts or do they keep a death grip on them and take them to the grave? I'm trying to find a creative way to get this CA off the reports. Any input is appreciated because this is keeping the scores sub 700. BTW, it's supposed to report until late '20, early '21. I could wait it out, but... Thx.
  4. Exactly. Why do people feel they must answer the phone??? It's the same people who receive unknown calls with no message but feel the need to call that number back. Ever dial the wrong number then hang-up only to have that moose call you back saying "you just called me"? Don't THESE people have a life?
  5. I thought Equifax said they were going to offer a free solution for people to lock their account at will like the other two offer?
  6. For those of us who are new at this, what is the right way to do a recon if denied credit? Such as what to ask and how to go about asking? I see the list of numbers in another thread, but for someone who has never attempted this before, the process can seem a little daunting. Thx
  7. The phone number doesn't match the in article. Sent from my SM-N910T using Tapatalk You're right. Didn't look past the first 6 numbers. My bad..

  9. Well collection dropped from Ex today. Got a 3 pt bump. Still sitting on Eq and TU but figure that should happen in a few days. Thx for everyone's advice. Now all I need to do is address a 2.5 y.o. PRA collection. Any ideas on the best way to minimize this?
  10. One last question: while I wait for CA to act on their statement, do I forward to the CRA's a copy of letter from CA to get things started? Does it help?
  11. OK thx. Was hoping the water would boil a little faster if I kept staring at it, but as we all know...
  12. How long does it normally take for a credit file to be updated if a CA agrees to withdraw claim (or specifically one from JeffCap)? They acknowledged early last week but haven't noticed change to any of my reports? Just curious when I will notice the update. Thx
  13. I am in the process of rebuilding/repairing my credit file that I let get damaged during the recession. Most of the negs have or are starting to fall off. Some I have gotten removed. But there's one that's materially holding me back - a Portfolio Recover collection account. It is for a defaulted CapOne card from a few yrs back. It has 4+ yrs to go before it would fall off report. I need to somehow flip or negate this negative as it is holding me back from moving up the FICO scale. I contacted CapOne, but they sold it and I cannot settle with them so I am stuck with PRC. I know it has screamed about on this forum that paying a collection does nothing to help, but leaving it there doesn't help either. I've read that PRC does not do PFD, so even if I pay, it's still there. Can anyone recomend how I can address this negative so it stops dragging down my scores? Thx.
  14. I can confirm this is the limit NFCU will do as told me by one of their reps
  15. Vantagescores are a waste of time and a fraud on the public to let people think where they stand when they really don't. Most of the time it's 50-100 pts HIGHER than your FICO 8. Sometimes, they give you a scare... abt 2 weeks ago I get notices from CK, WH, etc that my FAKO's dumped (lost) 100+ points for no discernible reason. My FICO 8 has not budged in over a month from 660/653/641 so I have no f'n idea what they are doing.

That's what I did when I initially joined. I thought with FICO 8 at 660 EX/653 TU/641 EQ I could squeak in with something based on reviews I had read about NFCU's lending policies, but alas, rejected. I have 2 collections which killed my chances (3.5 yr old with JeffCap and 2 yr old with PortRec - funny thing, the PortRec is for a defaulted CapOne @$253 and yet CapOne gave me 500CL unsecured. Going to use that card to pay the old CapOne debt and fight the JeffCap) so took out a secured loan with Wells then used 2/3 of that money to put down on secured card with NFCU (2 birds, one stone). Using remaining 1/3 to make monthly payments then hopefully when secured card is converted will apply returned funds to satisfy most of remaining loan balance. Only been at it for 1.5 months so there has not been any noticeable change with CRA's yet.
  17. Do inquiries on Chexsys drop off after 2 yrs like on credit reports? I recently pulled my Chex and there were ALOT of inquiries over the past few years, most before my Chex negatives aged out. I don't need any accounts at present and am just wondering when I can see a clean report if the future need arises. Thx.
  18. Isn't EWS 7 years reporting, not 5? And since this was Chase, don't they use EWS also since they are one of the owning banks?
