Can raise my down pmt to $3500 if I wait a month. I only have two installment loans reporting from CRA's: one is a $1500 personal loan from 1994 and one is a $2000 auto loan from 1995.
I've talked with the Acura dealership in my area, and they've told me that they pull EQ. My EQ file is mostly cleaned up, except for the judgment listed above and one collection (for $40).
All negative info on reports is from 2000-2001, when I was in school. FWIW, my situation is much more stable now.
Should I wait until I can get the judgment off of EQ? Will the the captive finance cos. above most likely decline me because of it?
Thanks for any help you can provide. I really appreciate it.

I don't have exact numbers, but it would be around 100%. Is a critical factor my situation the size of the down pmt I can put down?

As I understand your post, there is no comparable credit on which to make a decision.
Therefore I believe it will depend much on the business savy of the F&I person with whom you deal.
There is little basis for approval, your chances would be much better with a lower LTV.

Ok, I undestand. Just a few quick followup questions:
1. Besides a previous auto loan, what are some examples of comparable credit? I have student loans of ~$50K, but I don't don't think that those work.
2. Is the need to see comparable credit significntly lessened with a better FICO--say, over 700? How about if I succeed in getting the judgment deleted from EQ, as I plan on only applying at dealers that pull from EQ.
Just curious, as I have to believe that people are often getting car loans even though they don't have 'comparable credit.'
Funny--I bought my current car 6 years ago with cash. I still think it was the smart thing to do at the time, but having the auto loan history on my CR would help...
Thanks again for your help.

I normally do not consider student loans in the equation
An example of comp credit to me would be a credit installment line of say 5K or upwards that had been on file for a minimum of 12 months.
Many lenders have automatic approvals with scores as low as 660, however there are qualifying criteria that have to be considered.
