Full Version: How long for 120 late to fall off report?

I have a 120 late payment from 1999 listed as a neg. on Experian. The loan has been paid since 10/2001. Does anyone know how long the late payment will remain a neg on my report? Is there anything I can do to get is removed? The other two reports have the loan listed as paid in good standing.

Thanks

The general rule is that negative information will stay on your report 7 years + 180 days after the first missed payment. So, depending on when it first was late (i.e., was it 120 days late as of January 1999 or December 1999), it should fall off, at the latest, sometime next year.

Who was your lender? You can *try* a "never late" dispute with EX and, if that doesn't work, a goodwill letter to the lender. Those have a much lower chance of working with SLs than they do with other types of debts, but it certainly can't hurt to try. If nothing else, after at about 7 years after the original missed payment, try disputing with EX as "obsolete".

Good luck!!
