Full Version: Trouble with Equifax!
CreditBoards > Financing > Student Loans

I am having the toughest time getting Equifax to update my defaulted student loans as Paid. TU and EX have it correct. I have sent in letters three times, all with 2 different statements from the Department of Education that they were paid and withrawn from collections. Both times Eq has come back verified or updated completely wrongly (today--alert from MyFico). I called the DOE to find out what the deal was, they said they are sending it in that way on their computers and that Equifax has called them this morning about it and that they them it was paid 45 days ago. I called Eq and talked to a CSR who said it was still in dispute and they hadn't finished the claim even though I was looking at an updated Eq report of mine that said it was just finished today and wayy more incorrectly than the last time (score dropped 40 points). Says amount currently past due 1648, amount owed $348 on one of the 3. Does this even make any sense? Anyone have any suggestions for getting this updated, or even removed completely.

Thanks in advance

For defaulted student loans, all that is updated is the balance to zero. The default comments remain.

Yeah, I know that. But they aren't saying it is a paid default and are still listing past due amount of 1648! TU and EX both have Paid Collection, 0 Balance on all of my accounts. Eq doesn't say Paid Collection on any and lists balances for all but one.

A few more phone calls to Eq and the DOE and they finally got it correctly, except the date is 2 months off but no biggy.

rb - thank you so much for posting back and letting us know the results.

For other posters - sometimes in the world of student loans, things move very slowly. It's just important to be persistent with things sometimes.
