ok, i have a Direct Loan that has since been consolidated and moved...

background:

5/01 i graduated.
6/01 I joined the Peace Corps and filled out/sent in all appropriate documentation to have sl in deferment.

6/03 I finish Peace Corps, come home, consolidate, and pay on time, every time.

2/03 I get a job that requires a corporate card. order credit report, notice that both SM and DL are reporting that I was up to 120 days late in 1/02, 2/02 and 3/02. I was in deferment status!

Current day, Sallie Mae has since retracted all negative information although it took some major wrangling.

Direct Loans won't budge. They state that they did not receive deferment paperwork until 4/02, which is impossible since I was in Bulgaria at the time!

I've tried to work with CRA's to get it removed- no go.

This is the only negative thing on my credit and I am getting nowhere. Peace Corps does not keep records, DL will not accept an official statement of my times of service. Peace Corps also states that if you are in a grace period (which I was) they will usually "ignore" the deferment request.

Please give me a course of action, letter etc. I'm at my wits end because we want to buy a house in the near future and would like the interest rate we deserve.

An ombudsman is someone who acts as a mediary in disputes between two parties. So if you have tried to resolve a problem on your own and can't get anywhere, an ombudsman can mediate between the two parties in dispute.

All government agencies, including the DOE, employ ombudsmen to assist with disputes.
