I am in the middle of negotiating a rehab with a CA. It has been about a month since I made my offer. The rep I'm dealing with said it's too low, and it is low, but it's what I can safely afford to commit to paying during the rehab process. If it weren't for needing to clean my credit report, I would have just consolidated & been done with it. Money is tight.
I sent verification of my income. The rep said he had to show this info to other people before he could say whether my offer was ok or not. It has been about a week of my calling every other day & him saying just another day & I'll definitely have an answer for you.
All this has taken about a month. The anxiety is getting to me.
Today the rep suggested that I fax a letter on monday to him saying that this is taking a very long time & that since I haven't heard a definitive answer that I will simply send the sum I proposed, and then mail a payment in asap. He said he is expecting it by friday.
I know there are people here with more experience than I have in this arena, so I'd like to know how his suggestion sounds to you. Would I be setting myself up for some kind of trouble later on by basically saying "well, here is my offer and you didn't say no, so I'm going to take that as a yes."

I don't know if what I'm asking is so obvious that I should have found an answer in an earlier post (please direct me to it if this is the case), but I'm going to bump this and ask again.
I know that for rehabilitation the ca & I need to agree to the amount of a qualifying payment.
I know that the payment must be reasonable & affordable. I certainly don't want to have to borrow from Peter to pay Paul.
I know that I need to have this agreemant in writing. Although from what I've read here I'm a bit confused. If I just start sending in payments, will a letter of agreement from the ca come a few months into the rehab?
Should I contact the ombudsman if the ca and I can't come to agreement? I have sent proof of hardship, and it has been over a month since I've been in contact with them. Would it help at all to contact the financial aid officer of the school?
If we don't come to an agreement soon, could the ca go after my tax return? God knows I'm not made of money and really need that return - so many basic things that I need to cover, so this is not vacation money for me or anything.
I just started getting my life back on track when this crisis reared it's ugly head. I've been comforted by the generosity and comraderie of this board, so really, any advice is much appreciated.
Thank you

Bumping this question.
I would ike to know if anyone has a generic letter that can be sent in requesting Rehabilitation?
I contacted Van Ru and the agent told me what I would need to send in as a payment (which I can do) but he said I send this to a PO Box and they would then send me a contract.
My issue is that I don't owe much and figuring in the interest I will be paid off in 14 - 15 months. So if I start making payments and they don't start the process almost immediately then I will have it paid off before the loan is "bought back" and I will still have it on my credit report as Paid, compared to removed completely.
So I would like to send in a letter stating I am making this payment in an effort to start Rehabilitation process. I am sure I can create something but if anyone has a good one I would appreciate assistance.
Thank you all

Then you probably wont qualify for rehab. You must have at least a $1000 balance on the day of rehab to qualify.

Nope... I do qualify, they are garnishing my wages over and above the rehab monthly so between the two I will be paid off quickly but over 14 months total. Anyone with a good letter that I can send?
