I received an offer in the mail from Student Loan Express to refinance my student loans, which were consolidated many years ago at 8.25% fixed rate. I called for more info, the rep stated I am eligible for refinance at 5.5%, variable rate but capped at 8.25. It seems to good to be true, since I have always heard once you consolidate you cannot refi with the feds. Any suggestions or history on this company? Their website is rightrateloan.com

The guy emailed me an app, but my computer states the file may have a virus and quarantined it. blink.gif

I have a good friend who took a high level position with Student Loan Xpress last year. He recently told me they are being purchased by another company called CIT Group (not Citi) so stay tuned. He tells me that CIT is a Fortune 500 company and felt that this was a good move.

This is the actual website for Student Loan Xpress Consolidations:http://www.mycaploan.com/

Just a heads-up on the company that contacted you, consolidations are a fixed rate & not variable. What they tell you & what they can actually do may be two different things. tongue.gif

I guess I should clarify...I am being offered a REFINANCE of previously consolidated loans at 5.5%. That would save me over 3%. I have never seen a deal like this before and am suspicious.

Anyone heard of these guys? I haven't seen the details yet, I am just wondering if there are 'penalty' interest rates, like cc's ratejack a few months down the road.
