My ex-!@#$@!@ and I filed a Chpt 7 in Sept 1995.. This BK was his way of saying "I want a divorce" (sorry SOB, yea, I still harbor some anger mad.gif, about the BK, not the divorce tongue.gif ).. I fault myself for letting it go as far as it did, but I learned a valuable lesson from it. My ex didn't want to "keep up with the Jone's", NO NO NO, he wanted to BE them, and later, I suffered the consequences.. My only delight was finding out I was an AU on almost 75% of the accounts. Dispute process begins, with much success.

He ETS'd from Army, and 2 months later, I filed for divorce (NOT SOON ENOUGH) aggressive.gif While serving a tour in Korea, I was sent a POA for the last vehicle we purchased. Upon returning from Korea, I quickly learned that he let it get repo'd.. This was the official shot gun start of my credit education.

I remarried and slowly re-established credit in my name with his. Couple of small CC's from Cap1 & a new car (Escort, we got taken a bit at 9%).. We've both learned from past mistakes, and vow never to be anywhere near that boat again.

In August of 2002, "we" purchased our first house, in my name alone. My only bump in the road was that auto repo, it was showing collection account from the Asset thugs. I gave our broker my divorce papers, etc.. I spent $40 on USSearch.com (having a SSN is great), located his possible addresses & sent CMRRR's to all 3 CRA's, the OC & the CA. Asset wanted to settle for $5K, but I told them I couldn't poop that amount in the 2 days they wanted it in rofl.gif From there out, they were off my back (I'm inclined to believe the letters worked). We used the VA Home Loan program, and refi'd 2 times in less than a year. We went from 7% (8/2002), to 6% (1/2003) to 5.25% (8/2003) Can ya' get any lower without paying points or a DP?

I couldn't fathom going through a BK again.. I had no choice but to file, and in hindsight, am glad I did it. My only revenge is that he's suffered tons more than I did. My only debt now is my mtg, truck & 2 CC's ($396 & $1100)

I've ordered my reports at least 2x a year, and I recently joined the PG & MyFico watches.. I may cancel the PG thing, not sure yet.. My most recent success was my BK being deleted from TU yahoo.gif (& a derog AU acct).. 2 down, 1 to go (EQ) With recent payoffs of 4 CC's, I'm hoping my score will increase dramatically. (i'd be happy with 15 points)

These are inspiring stories.. Hope to read more of them!
Ciao!

Congrats! You've had a bumpy road, but you're on the Interstate to great credit now. Look forward to hearing your progress reports! Keep up the good work! clapping.gif

Thanks Kona! I just recently found this board, and have learned many new things reading posts, etc.. I do want to add a big THANK YOU to all who have answered my questions personally, or without knowing (me reading others posts).. What I had to go through back then was a HUGE eye opener for me blink.gif . I am glad I discovered my own credit when I did (bad timing on the bumpy road). Up until finding this board, I was pretty much self taught, using the process of elimination avenue & other approaches. I had looked into "credit repair" companies a long time ago, but quickly realized I could do what they charged for for free.

I will get over the resentment issue one of these days. I guess I'm still appalled that I couldn't see the forest for the trees back then search.gif . Maybe my resentment will come when my FICO score hits a 750 or higher (it's not that far down the road clapping.gif I'm still nudging the 700 mark, still waiting for the paid accounts to reflect, and those "neg" "derog" "adverse" accts (the one 30DL & the BK falling off) My DH's BOA (AU acct) was removed from TU, so that will help w/DTI ratio..

Thanks again for all the help! You can never have too much credit help these days!

Ps, I'm now trying to help a friend of mine.. She's never even seen her reports.. AAGGHH!! She's 27 years old, OMG (will someone help me? rofl.gif , I'm off on another adventure!)
