General Revenue Corp was the CA for my student loans.

A couple of weeks ago, I sent them a request for debt validation. I haven't received anything yet, but when I log on to usafunds.org I see that my "Current collection agency" is now listed as "Sallie Mae Servicing" instead of General Revenue.

Is this good/bad? Are they likely to send validation? Is it likely to be reassigned to another CA?

How long ago was General Revenue servicing your account?? Did you rehab??

Are you disputing the loan?? What are you trying to get out of the DV...there may be faster ways to do it.

If you sent the DV to General Rev, it "may" get forwarded to USAFunds. It is doubtful it will get to Sallie Mae.

General Revenue had my account for at least the last two years - I check the usafunds page monthly and they were shown as my current collection agency until today.

The reasons I requested DV:

1) I have paid my balance down to $2000, but due to triplicate reporting and not updating balances, they are still showing that I have balances of over $20k past due on EQ and EX. I have disputed this many times with the CRAs but General Revenue always verified as accurate. I'm hoping to receive my validation proving that I owe them $2000 and then if they verify one more CRA dispute claiming I owe $20k, I will take them to court for inaccurate reporting.

2) They added about $1500 in collection costs during my CH 13. I know this is illegal, but I have nothing in writing showing what my collection costs owed pre CH 13 were. I'm hoping they'll send a full validation that will list exactly when they added collection costs so that I can fight these charges.

I never formally rehabbed because I refuse to talk to collection agencies over the phone. However, I have just mailed my 12th regular monthly $600 payment, and I will ask Sallie Mae soon to consider my loan rehabbed.

Thanks for your reply, I'm interested in your comment that there may be faster ways.

Is General Revenue on your credit report?? Or is it just sallie mae and all the other lenders/servicers involved in your default?

Collection agencies do not add any collection fees or interest. The loan figures all come from the loan holder via electronic reporting. Collections costs are added as lump sums at the time of default or placement. Interest is updated periodically. When I worked collections, I would have a balance on my screen. If the debtor wanted the true balance, we had to look it on the clients system. Often there could be differences of hundreds of dollars.

Have you made 12 voluntary on time consecutive monthly payments. Then you can request a rehab we started, not quite the same as "consider it rehabbed." Thi8s is paperwork to be completed and a lender to be found. It could take up to 60 days during which time you must stay in repayment.
Are you still under chapter 13?? Was the student loan listed?? If so, you probably cant rehab as your payments would be going lockbox, and legally the client cannot contact you.

You need to request that sallie mae get the complete loan history from USFunds....or contact them directly.

All 38 tradelines (combined across the three reports) are from USA funds.

Should I even bother with rehab? My understanding that all rehab does is take the 'in default' notifcation off your reports and make you eligible for future loans, but does not remove payment history.

I can pay this thing off completely in another couple of months, that will take me out of default. And my loan was placed in default in 1998, so they'll have to remove these by the end of the year anyways due to the 7 year reporting limitation, right? They have reaged some DOLA's, so I'll need the validation or complete loan history to prove that.

Any updates? I am in the same situation as you. I DV'd GRC on my student loan and they sent it to Sallie Mae. I dont know if I should call Sallie Mae regarding this or not. Nothing has reported to my credit report yet regarding the student loan. Anymore info on your current situation would be helpful

Thanks
