I've searched the boards, and it looks as if requests for goodwill adjustments do work, at least some of the time, but maybe not for student loans?
Some details:
Just as my perkins and nursing loan (loaned to me by my university, and NOT consolidated with my federal loans) came out of deferment in November 2002, my oldest child was diagnosed with cancer (for real). In the turmoil, I could't get my sh*t together enough to apply for cancellation of my Perkins (as I work as an RN full time) and pay the minimal payment that the nursing loan cost. I finally pulled it together, and in January 2003 got the account current. Have had no late payments since. Is it worth a try to write a goodwill adjustment letter to the university to see if they will take off the late payments? Has anyone been successful with this scenario?
Thank you,
Bethany
