Full Version: Multiple Student Loans on Credit Report

Hi to all. I have doing searches but can't seem to find an answer to my question.

I have several student loans on my report from 10 years ago. I had a lot of lates and some of them were charged off. Two years ago I decided to consolidate everything and I now make one payment for all of my student loans.

My question is....will the TL for the original loans stay on my report forever or can I have them deleted since they are now consolidated?

Also 4 of those loans were from Sallie Mae and when I didn't pay on them they went to Sallie Mae Servicing. So I have the original 4 loans and then I have a repeat of the loans from Sallie Mae Servicing.

Can the credit report have all these duplicates?

I know that student loans are different from other accounts so I am a bit confused.

The original loans won't stay on forever, but they can stay on for 7 years from the DOLA. As far as having them deleted now that you have a new consolidation tradeline, maybe. Some have had success with disputes and goodwill, others haven't. YMMV

Yes. The first 4 loans should have stopped updating once they were sold, so I'm betting they show as chargeoff/transferred to another lender or paid collection. Then the 2nd lender takes over and reports them again, and should stop updating at the point that you consolidated. They'll probably show as a paid collection on your reports.

Like I said above, you can try disputing or goodwill letters and see what happens. You can search here on the forum to see others' experiences with removing negative tradelines after consolidation. Good luck. smile.gif
