Hi all -

Been a while since I've posted... I've been putting in hellacious hours at work lately.

A brief bit of background - I owe a good chunk of change on student loans taken out in the early 90's. I defaulted on them in the late 90's. They were bought and sold at least 5 times before I finally came out of my cave and rehabbed them. It took me about 6 months to get my default notice removed from the last lender that I rehabbed with. That was a bit of a shocker, because I'd assumed that *all* my defaults and lates would fall off like magic.

EQ and EXP still won't show me any love, so I'll keep on trying to get older default notices off, but chances are I'll have to live with my credit in the toilet for another 2 years with them. But surprise, surprise, TU finally came through for me. I now have no student loan defaults on TU. Weird thing is, I have 5 SL tradelines, but only 1 shows up on TU, even though SM has them all. The last update was in January too. Whatever, I'll take it.

So woohoo for me!!! I finally have one clean credit report.

So are you saying you went thru rehab and the negative TL's remained for 6 months?

And you had to fight with the CRA's to get the TL's removed?

Ive got 5 more months of my rehab agreement left, then we're shopping for a home...so I really need these SL's clean...but if your saying Ill have to fight them for another 6 months....oye

No, I didn't have to fight with the CRA's. I had to fight with Sallie Mae. I defaulted with USAF, which is owned by SM. So every time I called SM to get them off, they'd say well you need to talk to USAF. And I'd say, well I can't, coz their number gets transferred back to SM-- duh. It took me 6 months to find a human with intelligence enough to help me out.

I'm fighting with the CRA's to get the first five lenders who had my loans off my reports. When you rehab, only the lender who last had your loan (the one you officially defaulted with) gets removed. That is so totally not in the spirit of the law, but life ain't fair I guess.

I've just been disputing and trying goodwill letters with the previous lenders. Most have come off, but I have one lender left on EQ and EX that just will not budge--the bastages.

Sorry - read my post and it sounds like a major downer. I think most people don't have the problems I did. Most posts I read say that the old defaulted tradelines just fell off. You will probably be just fine too. smile.gif
