I had a Plus Loan through my mom when I was in school. It went into default so I started to rehab it. The CA stopped taking the funds out of my checking account about 2years ago and I was never able to track them down to contact anyone to see what happened. I was talking with Direct Loans awhile back and they had my mom listed as deceased, which is NOT correct. I've yet to be contacted. Here's the tough part...
My sister just graduated from high school and wants to attend the local university. I have her award notification paperwork. Here are her "awards"
Sub Stafford Loan: $1300 per semester and Direct Plus: $5300 per semester. She will need some of the Plus. Is it possible that she could use my fathers SSN# for the work? Will my parents SSN# be linked? They are still married.
Not sure what her next steps should be. I don't want her to be denied...I feel absolutely horrible about this. Do you think she'd be able to get a SL on her own if she claimed she was Independant?
