Hello all. I am a newbie and looking for some advice. I have roughly 15 old medical CO's on my CR's all paid to the CA years ago. Most are due to fall off between the end of 2010-2012.

My question is the Hippa Act does not apply to paid CO to the CA correct? Is there any other way to get these deleted any earlier? I am very uneasy about these CA's having my old medical debts and records..most are from 2004 and have not been reported since approximately 2005.

Should I just leave them alone and let them fall off in due time?

Also, I have one unpaid reported approximately 8 months ago. If I pay original creditor can the CA legally report my debt to the CRA's? Thanks for your advice!

Opt out

Get old addresses deleted, if possible

Send each CRA this,: follow ALL the directions and list ALL the MEDICAL accounts as they appear on each report.

Come back to THIS post for further instructions and to report your results.

Most of the old accounts will likely be deleted, the 8 Month old one SHOULD get you a response from the reporting CA, if it does, you can THEN pay it with the HIPAA letter insert "a". Please wait until you have done all the above steps before sending any payment to anyone.

Do I send a letter for each account or can I put it all on one? Thanks

You put them all in one.

Ok then. If I have 2 different CA's do I write two letters and put it in the same envelope or do I put both CA's and all 15 accounts on one letter? Sorry, I just want to make sure I do this right. Thanks for the help!

I did mine like this:

I have no knowledge or records of the following accounts:

#1234 from ScumCA
#4567 from AnotherScumCA

on my credit report #123456789

List all 15 accounts in one letter to each CRA. Make sure the account numbers match THAT CRA's report. So if TU has the account number listed as 1234, but EQ has it listed as 123456, make sure they match.

Thanks for the advice. I printed up my letters, yellow paper, purple ink like suggested. I will mail them out tomorrow. So I'm guessing I wait for the CRA's response which should be in 30 days, correct? Then what do I do?

If you used 'paid for' credit reports, then yes, 30 days. If you used free reports, then they have up to 45 days to respond. The advice you will receive will change based upon the responses from the CRA's, so just post your results when you receive them and we can take it from there.

Ok. Maybe I'm jumping the gun a little but I'm alittle worried. I checked my CR's and on TU the 15 accounts are gone but on EX and EQ only 2 have been taken off. I sent out my letters on Nov 5th, so I know it hasn't been that long. Just need some reassurance ohmy.gif

Congrats on the 15 removals from TU, that's great progress. In my experience TU works a lot faster than the other two so just because they haven't yet been removed from EQ/EX, don't get discouraged. Just be patient and wait for the full results smile.gif
