First...thanks in advance to anyone with any tips/pointers/suggestions!

So a few weeks ago I faxed in a deferment form to Direct Loans. I just found out yesterday that my deferment request was rejected because I put in a "wrong" date for when I wished the deferment to begin. Yes, I qualify for the deferment, but I needed to put in a date in the past.

Anyways, today I called Direct Loans and they explained to me the mishap. The problem is that my loan is now technically 61 days late. The representative told me that they report after 60 days, and it "looked like" they reported this (either yesterday or today). I'm so pissed that I haven't even checked myfico.com yet, but let's just assume that it's on my reports. Additionally, I had no blemishes before this, so my scored have probably sunck at least 50 or 60 points.

What is the best way to dispute this? Through direct loans? Through the CRAs?

Ugh...I'm just so ticked about this right now!!

Goodwill is your best bet. Unfortunately, it sounds like it is a valid late. With SLs, valid lates are VERY difficult to get rid of, and goodwill is generally the only way to do it.

Remember for the future: always, always, always stay on top of deferment/forbearance requests. Never assume that everything has been processed as you expected.

Thanks for the input!

I just checked transunion (myfico) and it is not showing on there.

Think I'm in the clear on that one?

That's hard to say. It's possible that the report to different CRAs on different days of the month. Keep your fingers crossed, though, and maybe it will never show up on TU. Again, try goodwill. The worst they can do is say no.

Yeah, when I called yesterday and spoke with the rep, she immediately placed the loan in a temporary forbearance, thus placing it in a safe harbor from reporting. So really, it was just in that 60 days late "zone" for about 36 hours.

I'll check the reports again in a few weeks to see if it popped up.....

I am in the same boat, but the notation is on my reports as of yesterday (lost 35 points). My paperwork has been submitted (yes, I kept putting it off). Anyway, would I just call customer service or write to someone. Who would I contact at Direct Loans? Thanks.
