I haven't had a checking account in my name in a long while. Had a bank account die in 03/04 resulting in a Chex record. I tried opening accounts for myself unsuccessfully and eventually gave up. We worked exclusively through a credit union account my wife had in her name and never even added me to it lest they try to pull Chex.

It never occurred to me that it would just drop on its own.

Currently in the midst of a divorce and need my own account. I scoured ChexVictims looking for safe banks, and was happy to find one close by. Then I stopped by here last night to look for the latest on Chex. Saw someone mention 5 years and blinked. I knew it had been more than 5 years.

Went at lunch today with $50 and opened a Checking and Savings account at US Bank, at the very branch where we'd been turned down back in the day.

I can't tell you how ecstatic I am. This doesn't help someone nowhere close to 5 years, obviously, but it is a light at the end of the tunnel. I did absolutely NOTHING to remove it from Chex, I've never even pulled my Chex report. It just went away on it's own.

Very cool.
