Hello,
A few months ago I had to go to the emergency room. Everything worked out OK as far as my health is concerned. But I incurred a rather large bill, most of which was covered due to being a low income individual. There was one portion of the bill that was not covered. It was from a corporation (a group of doctors) responsible for reading x-rays and the like. I have contacted them many times to try get my bill lowered because of not being able to pay, but no success. The billing company they use has been demanding a minimum payment of so much per month, which is more than I can afford -- something I have been very clear about. On two occasions I have sent a check for less than the amount they were demanding in a good faith effort to try to pay this bill. They claimed they did not receive the first one (which I believe to be a lie). I sent the second one certified mail with return receipt, and they did receive it, yet they still have not deposited the check. They said many times that they would not accept checks less than the minimum they have demanded, and of course are threatening to turn this over to collections if they do not receive the minimum or more.
I live in the state of Ohio and it was my understanding that it is not legal for them to refuse payment, but I have not been able to find any Ohio law statutes to that effect. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do in this situation? any of organizations I can contact that may help?
Thanks
