So this is what happened. I setup the rehab program back in May through GRC. They took out the first 80 dollar payment. I sent the necessary paperwork back to them via fax and was later told that the copies were too light and they couldn't read them. So I sent another fax that was darker. They confirmed that they received the paperwork and verified my account information with me at least twice. The second time I sent the paperwork, I called to confirm that they received it, they then told the 2nd payment, the June payment didn't go through due to insufficient funds. That was odd because I've maintained 300 dollars in this account, just so I know their payemnts never fault. I figured it was because they didn't have the right account info due to the "light" fax copies. So I confirmed with them my routing and account number. So now, in July, my payment never went through. Actually, the payment for June never went through too. So I just spoke with them and they said that I fell off rehab because the payments never processed. Well, I called the bank and they said they see the first payment as a check to JP Morgan and Chase SLR/GRC etc.... the bank mentioned to me that when they sent this payment through, it was sent through as a savings account, so they caught it and changed it to checking. HOWEVER, my bank shows no other attempts to withdraw money from GRC since then. They have never sent me a insufficient funds letter etc. So now their tone has changed to somewhat personable to downright mean and short. They pretty much tell me that even if it's their fault, that the law requires them to start the garnishment. Sounds about right. Pants down, ass up.

Is there anything I can do? I CAN NOT afford 240 dollars a month to be taken from me.

Thanks.

If you've tried speaking to them several times, and hopefully talking to a supervisor, and they aren't working with you to get this sorted out, my only thought is to try the Federal Student Aid Ombudsman: http://www.ombudsman.ed.gov/

Assuming you're able to make arrangements to start making rehab payments again, I'm sure you see now how important it is to stay on top of everything. There is a 20 day grace period on these payments, so I'm sure you can see where some of the responsibility was yours to keep an eye on your accounts, make sure the payments were going through, and call them if something didn't seem right. (ETA: I don't mean to sound too judgmental here, I'm just hoping you're taking an important lesson from this, and that others can learn from your experience.)

I hope you're able to work something out and get things back on track.

I have dealt with them and found them to be pretty reasonable. I would see if they will accept a document from the back verifing your story. If not, then just start the rehab again its only been a couple of months , it would have been worse if you were like 7 months in and found this out. They called me last week and I ripped into them, she called to tell me my pament was not going thru, I asked if they were using myu old debit card or the one I provided the month before. They were using the old one. I screamed that if my rehab was affected by this I would be pissed, She apologized and said it would not be. I do have to agree with the other post though, as important as this rehab is, I watch my account like a hawk until the payment is out, then I hit the loan solutions website to make sure the post it there too.

Yes, I do accept responsibility for not keeping an eye on my account. Rest assured, I will be on the phone the day after if my payments don't post.

So here's a quick update. My wife called them yesterday after I told her to get ready for the garnishment. She spoke with somebody that SUPPOSEDLY is going to help us. He agreed that the error was on their behalf and that he would submit the paper work for review. Then he asked us to provide a fax number to our payroll so he can send a retract of the garnishment. I don't know if this is true, I hope it is. My fingers are crosssed.

They were very nice to me the first 10 times I spoke with them. As soon as I was transferred to a supervisor, that's when things got way out of line. Her attitude was horrible. But that is in the past, and if this new guys is willing to work with us, then I'm am forever grateful.

I'll keep this updated as soon as I get word....Thanks for the replies...

Sounds a little fishy, if they knew how to get a garnishment to your payroll, why would they need the number from you to retract it?

Good question. But they mail the letter out right? I think he wants the fax number so he can fax this retraction instead of mailing it, so it doesn't take so long? I don't know though. I really hope this guy is telling me the truth.

UPDATE: So it looks like I'm back on rehab! I hope that they really do retract that garnishment. At this point I'm happy that I'm back on, but afraid by some clerical error or some unforseen circumstance the garnishment will still go through. I'm usually the most optimistic person, but with this, I've been made a slight skeptic.

I'll keep you updated.
