Has anyone applied for a checking account w/Citibank online? Do the use Chex? Do the pull credit reports? Which one? I am just curious to see if anyone that was listed on Chexsystems got an account and it stayed open. Thanks!
They do use chexsystems but lately several people have indicated to me that they were able to open accounts with them. I haven't figured out what the deal is yet

I opened one earlier this month. I'm on Chex until October. Don't know who they pulled. So far so good. They even called me to open savings too after the checking was open.

I opened an account this past sunday online. I received my Debit card in the mail today and activated it, just waiting on my checks. I am in chex systems. I am worried they will find out and close the account. Generally how long after opening the account should I worry about it getting closed?
Thanks

generally if they are going to close it, it would happen right away. Of course there are some well known banks like Bank of America, Wells Fargo, WAMU and Chase that have been known to close accounts in good standing over a year after they were opened even though the account was in perfectly good standing.

Thanks for the reply MCA. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they don't close it. If they do I will report back.

Congrats! do you think they were looking for possible fraud on the credit report or do you think they are looking for a score?

Thanks guys on the feedback on your experiences with Citibank. I thought I had a chex entry but when I got my report it had nothing on it. I had Citibank for along time when I was living in the northeast but because they have no locations in the area I live now(AL) I won't get an account.

I believe that they reimburse ATM fees if you don't live close to a financial center, but also they have atms in 7-11 if you have one near you.

No 7-11'either, I live right outside the Birmingham area and I would think they would have a 7-11 everywhere but not here, lol. I wasn't aware of the reimbursement on the fees. I like to at least have a branch close enough to drive to and from even if it is to Atlanta about a hour and half away or to Chattanooga 2 hours away because I go to those cities often but they do not have branches in those cities either.

Two weeks ago I decided to apply for a Citibank checking account online (their "EZ Checking" account). I already had a regular savings account with them (I've had that for years), and some Citibank issued credit cards. I logged onto online banking (which shows my savings and credit card accounts), and applied from there.
After clicking the button that indicated I really wanted a checking account, about 15 seconds later their website told me my account was open and I could add money to it immediately. Sure enough, the new account showed in my online banking, so I transferred some money from my savings account to initially fund it.
I checked my credit reports a few time since then (using TrueCredit to view all three), and no hard inquiry was made. I don't know if they ran Chexsystems, since I haven't checked in a while. I'm not listed in Chexsystems as having any problems, so that shouldn't have mattered if they did check.
