Full Version: Get Checking???
CreditBoards > Creditboards Main Forums > Chexsystems Help

My purse was stolen a couple of weeks ago and I just started getting letters that someone has been trying to write my checks. I'm pretty sure this is a small time petty thief who wouldn't have a clue about how to get checks made in my name and what have you.

The day it happened I ran to my bank right away and placed a stop payment on my whole box of checks. They offered to change some of the digits on my checking account for added security.

So of course why would I be posting a question in the chexsystems forum but that they found an entry in chex on me from another bank that I know I went into the branch and closed a year ago.

My credit union official quietly told me "I found an entry in chex and technically I am supposed to close your account but I know you have kids and are responsible so I won't do that... BUT I can't open a new one."

Now, I know from 2 years ago that my credit union does the get checking program and I was thinking that I could do that and have my account number changed anyway. But I go to the get checking website and the program is supposedly not going on right now??? MCA help! is that true?

If this is no longer an option, what banks or ahem CREDIT UNIONS are likely to open an account for me in the current financial climate?

The " Get Checking " Program depends on where you live. In order to take the class, you must
1. pay off all debt to the reporting banks(s)
2. not show fraud on your report.

There have been instances where they have allowed people to take these classes but later they were still denied an account due to those reasons.

As far as getting a new account , options depend on where you live. What is your zip code there?

Pfeh fat chance getting a new account. LOL My zip is 90302. I have heard through the proverbial grapevine that my state is one of the toughest. And I really, really love credit unions too sad.gif I so want to just be able to reopen the account at the same place I have been with them for literally years.

I'm pretty sure the old debt is only about what like $30? There wasn't anything in my account when I closed it. And I wasn't using checks so I don't know why that's there. I would fight it but am just super ready to change that account right now and time is of the essence in this case. Otherwise I would fight it and very likely win.

How quickly could I find out what the account reflects (abuse, fraud, etc)? The lady at the bank didn't tell me. She just shushed me and said quietly she was just going to shred the paperwork and forget we even had that conversation.

you would need to order a free copy of your report at www.chexhelp.com

CA is a very difficult state when looking for non-chexsystems options. The best options there locally are as follows:
1. US Bank (in store locations) If your report does NOT show fraud then this is the best option for you in CA if you are local to an “ in store location” Your report MUST NOT show fraud or they will deny.

2. The second best option there at this time is an account with Fidelity Investments. They do offer a checking now that comes with a debit card and checks.

What is wrong with a fraud alert. I put a fraud alert on one of my checking accounts.

Unless you mean the person trying to get the account is accused of fraud.
mca
Some banks will report to chexsystems and indicate fraud on the report
