Private College Debt
I attended a private college, tuition $27,000ish, with which I received financial aid, for most of it. After my first semester, I went to register for clasess, I owed yet for that semester so they told me that I couldn't. I went to financial aid and they told me I had to pay the entire amount of tuition owed before I could register - fine that makes sense but I couldn't. She advised me to "call mommy and daddy", which hello if my parents were that rich it would already have been paid. Well she ended up giving me a yellow slip that allowed me to register with a balance left. The entire time I was at college my father was paying $300 some a month knowing that wasn't enough to be debt clean but enough to allow me to register because of this "contract" my dad had, NOTHING in writting.

I went through all of college like that, and now that I've been graduated, with my diploma since Dec '06, I got a phone call from RMS/claiming to collect my debt from college immediately. Well, the amount owed yet is $9812.64, and they said I can either pay in full, or make a large down payment and than monthly payments. I'm down with the monthly payments, but only what I can afford. I'm not disputing the amount, but can only pay portions as I can afford. I'm just staying afloat the way I am now, with financial aid payments and the basics for suvival.

This RMS is threatening if I can't follow through on any of the options, than they will send my case to the courts, which can result in taking property and/or garnish my wages. Go ahead and take what I have, NOTHING! garnish my wages and I won't be able to survive unless on the streets.

Don't I have any other options?!?!?! Help?!?!?!

In hindsight, you should have left that school after the first semester and gone to a school that you could afford.

Private school do and will sue you for tuition balances, similar to private student loans. My suggestion is that you pick up a part time or second job and get that bill paid off as quick as you can.
