Shouldn't we screen the donors?
At least to see if they are hot or not....

I just bought a dozen at Kroger yesterday. You mean I can put them on eBay and get some money for them?

I thought about it once years ago. But then I just couldknt bear the thought of a child out there that was mines could be being abused, or mistreated or being given less than I would have done for them. Could you imagine watchign TV and seeing a child that looks just like you on then ews, abduction, rape, death....OMG. I couldnt handle something like that. I would have felt as thought I committed a crime against that baby.

why? isn't helping infertile couples something good?
clambert1273
I think it could be used as a good thing for infertile couples... not like I am using mine anymore (FACTORY IS CLOSED) I already have 3 of them lol

I offered once to surrogate for a friend of mine.. she had a rare cancer as a child which left her internally scarred (literally) from the treatments. They told her she would never have children but that didn't stop her from trying... bless her heart... The first time she carried for about 6 weeks, the second time about 12 weeks.. the third time *sigh* about 22 weeks so he was developed.. her uterus wouldn't stretch and grow with them sad.gif It was so traumatizing to her that I couldn't bear to watch her keep trying any more.. about 6 weeks after the funeral I approached her with the offer to carry but she turned it down... sad.gif I wanted to help her so much...

By all means egg donations are invaluable in helping infertile couples or women.
My comment was referring to hard economic straits as a motivation for increased offers of egg donations. It is not a riskless procedure. The burden may fall disproportionately on economically disadvantaged women or single mothers, feeling the pressure to resort to this option to put food on the table. While of course the woman is not coerced, for some women trapped under family financial obligations or mounting bills this choice would not be entirely free, which in my mind at least could present doctors and recipients with a potential ethical dilemma. Ideally, screening through an interview or interaction with the prospective egg donor would ideally address it but it is not perfect.

The only reason I wouldn't have considered it is that the actual procedure of harvesting is QUITE PAINFUL and I am afraid of pain..

but if I could help someone's 'dream' come true..
why not?

I wonder why you can sell eggs but not organs.

Yup, they sell the frontal lobes and replace it with the lemming gene.

In order to get paid a couple has to choose you.
And there isn't a high demand for black eggs in Alabama. laugh.gif

It's actually not. You go under, and wake up with slight cramping and that's it. My period cramps were worse than the pain from the procedure. The daily injections and blood tests were more annoying.

Also, I'm still mad they made me pay taxes on the money I received. I donated a body part and I have to pay taxes on it?? WTH?

I WILL ADMIT that I TRIED to do this back when I was in college. I was looking at the $1500 payout. However, the doctor turned me away when he learned that I was a vegetarian. Something didn't jive with that he said and the hormones I was to be given.

I AM SO GLAD.

I think it would have haunted me forever.

how would helping a childless couple be something that would haunt you?
SoldAtTheTop
I wish I could do this. I could use the money.
I don't see any problems with it ethically or morally.

Living in the US....(not Iran,Afghanistan, etc)
its just another advantage to being a female.

Man I wish I could do this! DARN my stupid fat genes!

The truth always is funny, I suppose.
Majority of the couples who are seeking eggs are asking for people who represent who they are ethnically and religiously.
The most prominent examples of this I've seen are people wanting eggs of Jewish, whites and east Asian females.

There's nothing wrong with egg donation, though, since my family has been doing foster care and adoption for some years and it's really changed my life and the lives of the kids who've been with us (I hope for the better!), it really makes me wish more people would look toward foster care-to-permanent adoption. It's a little bit more work, since so many of the young babies to young teens have medical or emotional issues that need addressing.

But there are plenty of infants and toddlers out there, if people are looking for younger babies. I know that the bond isn't the same for a lot of folks, but I can honestly say that I have blood family and they irk the **** out of me just like my non. And I love all of my family, whether or not the redheads are actually born of my uncles.
