I had four accounts with Wachovia back in 2004 in Florida; one savings account for each then-minor son, and two separate accounts for two sisters for whom I was rep payee for their SSI monthly benefits because they are somewhat.......errr....slow.
Back in 10/2004 I moved from Florida to Houston. Since I was still rep payee for the two sisters, I left with my mother for them some withdrawal slips so when their money comes they can get it. When I opened the accounts with Wachovia, banker said they "technically" can withdraw money since they are adults. I said, okay, I just won't telll them their account numbers, don't want any funny business going on.
In March 2005, my older son needs some cash, I said, okay. I will transer $50 from your brother's account to yours. I am on the phone with customer service rep at Wachovia to do this and she said, by the way Ms. C------, do you know your checking accounts are overdrawn??? Uhhh, excuse me, not possible, I don't even have any checks or automatic payments set up and ATM card (no debit card) is in my possesion, you must be mistaken.
She then tells me that two checks were written, one for each sister by a Ms. F------,a neighbor of both sisters. One check was for $850, the other was for $900. Apparently, Ms. F----- took both my sisters to Wachovia, writes them a check with the intent to "deposit"$50 from each check.
Now here it's get interesting: only $25.00 was in each account, my sisters didn't know their account numbers, so they had to show their ID and I can only assume, give their SS numbers to teller. They sign the back of the checks written by Ms. F----- and they are on their merry way. Well, guess what??? Ms. F-------'s checks bounced! WHY? Her account was closed!! Her bank....WACHOVIA! Tell me how could this happen? And more specficially this was all done through a DAMN DRIVE-THRU!!!!! No thumbprint, so SS
After much going back and forth, and finally getting my lawyers with PrePaid legal involved, they refund one account and not the other. Well, now the account they refunded is on my credit report showing $881 overdraft. In the meantime, they took the money out of both sons's account to help clear up some of the "fees". RJM has it on Exquifax and Transunion, and Wach/Rec also has the same account on their with a O.00 balance.
I told three people at work what happened and they said, "that can't happen, banks check the account for a check that big" or "it was an inside job with Ms. F------ and a teller." My guess is teller is no loner employed their. Bank is out $1,750.00
How can Wachovia be so DAMN STUPID? I have tried to get them to acknowldge THEIR mistake for not checking Ms. F------'s check in the first place. I mean these were BIG checks.
As I stated in another post, I do not feel I owe them. As a matter of fact they owe me.
Help? Suggestions? TNT I can borrow ?????
