I have had stafford loans taken out to help pay for a part of my schooling for the 2 years i was in college, and left school in 6/22/2008. I was getting ready to start paying them back earlier tonight when i noticed something strange in my online statements. Apparently there were more stafford loans automatically taken out with my knowledge for school starting on the date of the summer quarter 7/7/2008, and this upcoming semester as well 3/2/2009. Im going to call their financial aid office first thing in the morning , however i was wondering if there was any important information regarding a situation like this i should know? Anyone else have the same experience as me?

Were you planning on staying in school for this school year but had to drop out for some reason? Did you fill out a FAFSA? Did you enroll? If you did enroll, did you fill out the necessary paperwork to drop your classes?

Not quite. The question is not did she drop her classes. The question is did you fill out the papers to officially withdraw? That is the key administrative step.

The second issue is simpler. If those student loans were taken out, where did the money go? The college can take money our for tuition and fees, but that is it. The rest whet somewhere. Where?

My gut reaction is that this is an administrative mistake. You had submitted the papers for financial aid of the 2008 school year but never officially notified the college that you left. That makes sense for summer 08. And possibly even for fall 08. It does not make any sense for spring 09 however.
